    It's great that it didn't bend any valves. I did a little research because I'm considering buy one and I read that this is an interference engine. Really like how you bought special attention to locking the crank in and the coolant tube removal.

    Hey guys, great video. Probably one of the only detailed ones up to this day on UA-cam. I just had the pleasure to do a head gasket on one of these. If I remember correctly, the way the timing tool fit on this engine is with cylinder 5 at TDC, NOT with cylinder 1 at TDC like normal engine😉

      It's not cylinder no.5 at TDC it's actually cylinder no. 1 at TDC. The engine sits backwards and the timing gear/components are on the front of engine (which is facing and closest to transmission and cylinder no.5 is furthest to the right or passenger side on the American spec version. Its backwards from what people are normally used to.

    I have the same engine- it’s idling rough and has had 1-2 misfires. The codes point to what is normally a camshaft adjuster magnet- so I suspect this is what I’ll have to end up doing. Probably the best video I’ve seen showing how to do this. For a moment, I thought I could do it, now I know better lol.

    • @OrdinaryCarGuys
      @OrdinaryCarGuys  4 роки тому +2

      You do not need to take the tensioner itself off. You will just need to push the tensioner piston back up into its guide and put a pin (small drill bit worked for us) in the small hole on it to keep it up and out of the way. To do this, we used a flat head screwdriver to get under the piston and push it up. We did not show this very well as it is quite difficult to push it back up into its guide and pin it. However, at about 15:30 you can see the drill bit that we used sticking out of the guide.

I didn’t find the locking hole on the crank. Couldn’t get it to run, well why do they call it top dead center if the piston isn’t at the top when it’s at the locking point. I did that today but im afraid to start my car now. I know once the car is running it will build up oil pressure but how do you get that pressure before starting the car?

    • @OrdinaryCarGuys
      @OrdinaryCarGuys  4 роки тому

      I'm not exactly sure why you would not have much tension on the chain after removing the pin, but otherwise what you could do to build oil pressure is to unplug the fuel injectors and turn the engine over for a few seconds. This will help build your oil pressure before actually starting the engine back up. I hope this helps.
