Sweet wahoo!! I've been out in wind like that in my hobie. The part that freaks me out most is heading in with the waves, even quartering in sometimes it pushes the yak around more than I like. I don't have amas, I should really get some! A friend of mine got gored by a goat in his femoral artery and almost died from blood loss- when I saw you land that wahoo and he was still breathin, with that spear tip so close to the inside of your leg like that it sent a shiver down my spine!
thanks man! That feeling of getting pushed sideways from behind by the swells is really sketchy. The amas do feel like they help especially when dealing with heavy fish on deck. I agree that was really unsafe having the spear point like that. Nowdays I bat fish on the head before bringing them onboard for safety.
I noticed your rod control using that right hand reel. I had that problem and switched to left hand reel since right dom can control the rod way easier.
Nice catch, great vid as always. I added a 500gph Rule bilge pump. It was getting too sketchy trying to hand pump water out while waves are splashing. If I take one big wave while the hatch is open, it would be the end of me. Stay safe out there!
Thanks man I definitely leaning towards putting a pump. Just gonna redo the rudderlines and fix the rotted plastic bits that supposed to reduce water intake first.
Man that was some gnarly conditions. Glad you all made it back safely and was so cool to hear the ratchet on the ono runs. Huge ono on a very sporty day! Good to know how to signal the rescue choppers and boats, and good you guys radio each other to make sure you're getting in ok.
Nice ono dude!!! Glad you made it back safely and thank you for sharing the info on how to signal the trooper, I’m sure that will come handy one day. That’s a lot of water you pumped out.
Awesome fishing brother , blue water is so beautiful! Hey question , I like your water Boots what brand are they , I'd like to know . Thanks for sharing your fishing experience, million Likes and tight lines Always!!
Nice fish! Wind was nuts though. Been out once in wind like that. Was not fun at all. Swell hitting me from 3 directions while I was trying to drop crab hoops. Thanks for the video!
Aloha! I kayak fish out of Kawaihae too. I know we've talked a few times out there. I have the blue Hobie PA14. Nice fish! Let's connect because It would be nice to have another boat, and someone to talk to, out there when I go. A hui hou.
Right on man! Hope they're biting for you over that side. I started having pretty bad luck from Summer onwards so changed spots... Def gotta connect on the water at some point 🤙
Great Catch and excellent video! My first visit to the Big Island was last January. Stayed at one of the resorts near Kawaihae. Beautiful place and hated to have to leave. It's on my bucket list to make a trip back out there to fish from a kayak. Question: Do you primarily fish from that side of the island or do you bounce around depending on the weather or time of year?
The video never truly shows how strong the wind/swell really are. Monster wahoo brother, you are a beast.
Thanks man! Yeah I guess the fisheye flattens everything so much 🤙
