The bite started out so slow it was looking like one of those skunky days, but suddenly the bite turned on around noon and it was strike after strike! Got my biggest shibi ahi (yellowfin tuna), a 50 pounder.

Went out yesterday to attempt to live bait (opelu) yesterday for the first time out Waianae on my 17 Montauk using all of your techniques. Opelu rigs, 30 class rods and reels (tallicas) 40lb, and your live bait wire rigs and was very successful with a good size Aku, a 25lb baracuda, and a almost 30lb Shibi. I rigged a 15 gallon live bait tank to a small marine battery and was able to get a dozen or so opelu after searching for a couple hours, wind was kicking so was really hard to stay on the bait once we found them, but it worked out really well. Small kine sun burn, but we'll eat good for the next week. BIG MAHALOS for sharing my braddah, me and my family really appreciate!!!
Wow good job that's some good eats! Live bait is almost always killer so awesome you got on the opelu.
Hoo brah!! Slaying em as usual, congrats on the monster 🤙🏼🤙🏼 It was only a matter of time till you hooked da big bois!!!
Yessah! Thanks braddah was a nice little step between small shibi and legit ahi 😂😂😂

Congrats on the PB shibi Shea! Way to stick with the plan to catch live opelu even late and deep to pull off the win!
Thanks Scott! Guess lucky thing I never bring bait for deep drop after all lol.
@@AffordableWahoo I would have given up hours ago and been dropping down dead bait for anything that would bite, which usually means sharks.
Da fish magnet man strikes again!!! 😆💪🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾

Nice fish!!!
Thanks!
Yep, that 2nd Ahi felt different, eh? You were quite smooth though even though I am sure your forearms were pounding. Oh, I made an offer on a home in Hawi. They accepted. Moving to Hawi in December. See you on the water some fine day? Aloha!
Yeah man thought that second one was a shark lol! Locked the drag and grabbed the spool and just hauled it until I saw silver and backed off a bit. Right on Hawi is a super nice spot congrats 🤙🤙🤙
Wowza 🎉
We gotta hit da buoy when you get back 💪
Nice, keep going. 🇧🇷
Thanks! 🤙🤙

Thanks!
Yessah, big buggah!
Haha yeah thanks braddah!
Yess sir!
Wat is your live bait basket made of I like it look like it keeps bait good
@@wesleyparris3731 It's ABS pipe. If you look up "DIY live bait tube" on UA-cam @Flyingfishtv has a great video how to make it 🤙
Nice catch
Thanks!
Do u use boat poles for the bigger fishes? Jus wondering...
Nah I have an extra heavy action shimano trevala jigging rod with conventional reel for bigger fish and it seems to do fine though I haven't fought a 100+ ahi on it yet.
Holy sh*t is right 😂.... what a beast!
Lol thanks man was good times out there!
If you don't mind, where did you get that pin gaff?
I bought a threaded 3/8 inch stainless steel rod and a wooden dowel from home depot and DIYed it with my friends drill press and some epoxy then treated with spray paint and taped over with electric tape
@@AffordableWahoo Nice, thanks for yet another great tip!
Hey man! Finally made it on island I was wondering if you could hit me with the best spots to launch. I don’t wanna steal your spots or anything. Just kinda lost on where to go. Thanks in advance!
Kawaihae harbor and Keahou boat ramp are good easy launches and have mellow water lots of the time. Just make sure the wind and swell are good. We're getting into winter weather now so lots of big NW swells with high winds so gotta be careful
Awesome! Thank you! Hope to see you out there one day!
The hook looks little too small...can go bigger...
True especially with the bigger opelus
