    BIG thanks goes to Marc who was crazy enough to swap bikes with me and gave me the opportunity to ride his Duke!
    ---
    Anytime I get on an Austrian one cylinder bike I'm fascinated with it. Not because these are especially good to ride but because of the fact that I struggle with their handling quite massively and STILL have tons of fun hooning around :)
    ---
    The owner of the Duke installed the "error counter" to help improving his riding technique. You should press the counter once any time you make a mistake while riding. In order to prevent mistakes you first need to be aware of them. The counter helps a lot with that. You don't necessarily need a thing like that on your bike though. You could also press the indicator button for instance each time you've made a mistake. Just to help with getting more aware of your riding errors. If you're aware of your errors you can start working on them and soon they'll disappear.
    I myself never used this technique but I'm guessing that my riding would have improved A LOT quicker if I did.

      Maybe the SDR should be given a chance to be ridden by Schaaf...I'm pretty sure KTM say you can skip a valve clearance service if an Austrian rides your bike like a nutjob xD

    I have a 2018 690 duke and I am regularly tracking it for the last 3 years. This is exactly how I feel. I love going quickly through the gears and revving it’s guts out. It’s so addicting. It’s hell of fun of a bike to rip it around the track or basically anywhere. What a hoot! Cheers Yaal!
    What an amazing video and audio! Kudos.

    Nice one, just buyed the Duke 690 from 2018, and it's a really good bike, very fun to ride. And that single cylinder sound is wow.

      Thank you. I can confirm the fact that the "old" generation is harder to ride. I tried the 2015 Duke R, and it vibrates a lot more, and isn't as smooth at the last one. Thanks to the balance cranckshaft added i guess.. Anyway, thx for all your cool videos.

    I just purchased my 2014 KTM Duke 690 Supermoto last week. Mine only had 1,420 miles on it and is like new. I am also running the stock exhaust and can verify that it sounds just exactly like your video. I have only ridden 100 miles so far but the handling is pretty nice on my Duke. Happy trails and many happy rides. Guy in Columbia Mississippi

    That was funnnnnnnn and worth waiting for. A single cylinder engine behaves so differently from a twin cylinder, jumping from one to the other must feel very strange. If there's one thing i don't need it's an "Error Counter", i wouldn't be safe riding because i'd be pressing the counter instead of concentrating on riding badly !! With me the more i think about riding well the worse i ride!!. Ride safe and keep it shiny side up.

  • @aserta
    @aserta 8 років тому +1

    I think your video and RJ's video sum up the two aspects of this bike.
    Either way, nice ride, next time i'll manage to catch a ride on one i'll have to get a section of "clean" road to push it above 100. It seems to behave differently. If that's the case, i might just buy one as a project bike for mini excursions. I actually liked the way it behaves. Now, if something could be done about the excessive (in my mind) vibrations/travel time. It would be perfect.
    I saw the counter technique once before, in our club there was this older guy, for me at the time, he had one just like it, but he Macgyvered it with a bicycle horn mount.

    • @Schaaf
      @Schaaf  8 років тому +2

      +aserta :D The vibrations definitely would be too much for me on longer distances. I think I wouldn't be able to ride more than 200km on that thing.

    Damn neutroll's! Top video and it couldn't have come at a better time as I'm interested in test riding one. Also; do you own your own road over there which you can close to cars when ever you're riding? I only saw one car on that run!

    I hope its ok to ask you something: whats ur opinion: I will get my drivers licens at age 36 meaning I can ride any bike with no limitations. For example should I start with Duke 390 with 48ps or a Duke 690 with 72ps. I am very interested on your opionion! Is the 690 to much for bloody beginner?

    Hey :) Vielleicht ließt du das ja noch. Ich hab eine kurze Frage: und zwar bin ich 1,86 groß und damit leider zu groß für die meisten Bikes. Die neue duke 690 passt mir sowohl vom Kniewinkel als auch vom allgemeinen sitz nicht gut. Ich hab dann die smcr 690 probegefahren und da sitze ich sehr gut drauf, die ist aber sehr teuer. Die Duke III sieht von sitz der smcr geht ähnlich und deutlich günstiger als die smcr, deswegen überlege ich mir die zu kaufen und wollte mir da aber erstmal noch einen Rat holen. Vielen lieben dank schonmal :)

    Hey Shaaf, just stumbled upon your videos. Subscribed actually instantly at the end of watching this! At first i was convinced you are complete nutcase :p but you’ve got mad riding skills and are always in control.
    Now i wanted to ask you a question and get some of your thoughts. I’ve been riding for about 8 months now. Started with a 125cc bike but a 150cc has been my most ridden. None of these bikes have been my own but borrowed from friends. I’ve got my endorsement and everything, now just looking to get my own motorcycle.
    For a long time my mind was set on duke 390 but for the past one month i’ve not been able to get the duke 690 out of my head. I am now leaning towards the duke 690. What are your thoughts? Bear in mind that getting a bike in my country is not the easiest or cheapest thing to do, so i will be looking to keep it for at least 5 years to forever. If i go down the 690 route i plan to restrict it to the output of a 390, grow with it and then take it off. Almost like what i assume you did when you started riding.
    Sorry for the long comment, i really do hope you respond but understand if you can’t. Oh btw i’m also in my mid 20’s if that helps.

    • @Schaaf
      @Schaaf  6 років тому +4

      i wouldn't really recommend the 690 as a beginner bike but then again if you restrict it for a while you should be fine. After all it's very light weight and not very difficult to handle

      I'd only buy something like a Duke if I had decent twisty roads nearby. IMO the Duke makes sense (a lot though) in the twisties only.

    Awesomenessnessness!! I have the same bike, and yes it feels weard at first trying to go hard into tight bends. Feels like it wants to kill you by going strait on into the nearest tree. But its all in yr own head. The seating position just makes you feel yr on a dirtbike and you shouldnt be able to lay it right over....but once you get used to trailing the rear brake slightly and dropping it over its such a rush!! That single braaaap out of every bend is so addictive!!!! Braaaaaaaaap!!!

    Also ich kenn das von meiner smc r, anfangs war ich so verkrampft beim Kurven fahren, speziell bei langsamen rechts kurven, dass ich oft gegen das Motorrad gearbeitet habe, also ich habe es nicht einfach umgelegt und eingelenkt, sondern hatte oft das problem , dass ich ewig weit über den scheitel gebremst habe und plötzlich fand ich mich auf der gegenfahrbahn wieder !

I tent to use a chainsaw bar n chain oil on my chain....Makes a bit of a mess if i hurry n now take time to wife the drippings off be4 i ride. But u know that little slide feeling kinda wakes my ass up a bit.....LOL
