Aw Cantha, this place holds a very special place in my heart. It was the place I first discovered mmos. No words can describe how much I’m excited for this expansion.

I got such a rush of nostalgia with that factions music at the start of your video. GW Factions was my first real MMO. Made some good friends in that game, always wondered what happened to them.
Factions was my first introduction to Guild Wars. Its still my favorite location and story.
Dude :) Loved this. So many fond memories of pure passion for a game with all my old guildies. Cant wait for the next one!
I like the concept of this series, i hope you'll expand on it. Personally I would love to see more GW1 content in the future. Hope you made the videos to include the draft for every mission. Keep up the good work and good wishes.
Love this concept for Monster Drafting! Really excited to see how this goes! Also after hearing how your Patreon started to go back down I finally signed up for the first time today! I finally finished the factions campaign for the first time a few weeks back. it was awesome.~ Also got the Luxon armor that was on the box art. Been wanting it for years.... ;u;

Decided to wait nearly a month to dive into this, in part because I stream a lot of these videos while at work, but currently I'm teleworking at home with other "streaming options". Really looking forward to binging this series a bit now. :)
Looking forward to it. It's been so long since I've played Faction which is my favorite expansion in GW.
I haven't read all the comments, but just wanted to mention 1 thing. If you play Guild Wars the way it came out (Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall, Eye of the North) or even start with Factions you would not be able to duplicate this playthrough. Heroes weren't introduced till Nightfall and before that point you would have to use henchmen with set skills. All that being said I love that only monster skill sets are used.
Guild Wars Factions is by far my most beloved moments playing any MMO.
I'm glad you're doing this playthrough because I really don't remember many details of the campaign for Factions. I remember a bunch of side quests and areas, but the actual story? Sort of blurry. Keep up the great work!
That part at the end about the Ritualist trainer actually reminded me what I still miss to this day in GW 2.
Actually questlines that introduce you to your class like they did back in GW 1.
I really liked that stuff in the original game and was hoping it would at least come back with elite specs in heart of thorns where you get a bit of a story and introduction about your new elite specialization, but there just was nothing there. Those collections for the specialization weapons didn't even come close to what I wanted.
Me: I don't remember the cut scenes being that bad..

(Oh but I do remember being annoyed at waiting for the group to run out of the estate, I didn't realise you were supposed to enjoy the music.
nice to see this and I think you're right about what you said in the QA I'm more inclined to watch this, now that we are in hype mode for cantha instead of the old playthrough. Also, this being abridged sounds super cool!

I think was an very ingenious and thoroughly entertaining way to achieve your various goals for this series. Really looking forward to the next one.
Minor note: While targeting the Monks is generally the better idea in most of Guild Wars 1, in many cases (notably against the afflicted and Jade Warriors) they have primarily Healing Rituatlists. Particularly the Afflicted Rits, who carry Flesh of my Flesh, one of the best res spells in the game.
man, i remember being an anxious little kid who just played the first two missions over and over again for fun. really takes me back.
Love the twist on it! It seems like it will be quite the challenge for later stuff. Afflicted are pretty brutal enemies for a low healing party.
And for those commenting on it... Yes the cutscenes were always that bad. 😉

one of the reason I liked GW 1 design was the way you obtained eliteskills ( I liked that system a LOT more than the tedious HP thingy in GW2 ). You actually had parties to do an elite-run ...

"Monster drafting", for the record, might be the most fun challenge you've tried to do in any series since you tried to solo Prophecies.

Hm I thought they fixed the rubber band teleporting caused by alt tabbing, is this something else? I'm gonna enjoy this series a lot, monster draft looks really cool and It's been so long since I have seen Cantha. I was so into it back in the day, must have played 30 hours straight at launch... And the alliance battles with friends. Good times.

Well here we go. Plague in real-life, plague in-game. Virtual and real life melting together more and more.
I don't know where you got the idea for this draft, but it's actually pretty cool! Really enjoyed seeing it in action, even if the mission itself was easy sauce.
"...an abridged version" as your character walks over a bridge in game. I see what you did there!

I Was literally thinking of how awesome a gw1 playthrough would be to watch about two weeks ago. I realize you already did one, but you just sound so extremely young in that one that it feels weird to watch. Anyway, amazing series i sincerely hope this gets massive views and you have to play the other campaigns aswell :)
Holy crap this mini game looks awesome. Is there a way to export it so we could use what you've already made? An extension would be to put the build templates so they could be easily copy/pasted. May require a separate spreadsheet listing them out.
I struggled with rubberbanding like you seem to have too, and I found that by capping my fps to 144 (or whatever your monitor refresh rate is) it would remove it completely, at least when it's not caused by ping. It might work for you too.
It's fascinating to see how the game actually looks! I remember Gw1 as a very good looking game, with almost shiny graphics. It's just today that I realize how "bad" (from a todays perspective) the game looks. (Of course it's because of it's age). If someone asked me to recreate Gw1 exactly from my memory, it would look way better. When I started playing in 2005 I was like "This game has such an amazing graphic! LOOK PEOPLE! SHINY!". And yeah, I also don't remember those cutscenes being that bad. It's crazy looking back and I am so glad that we have Gw2 now.
If only that strategy guide could've covered Winds of Change, when enemies get real skill bars. Build strategy actually matters there!
I do find I want to plan some (especially in hard mode) for certain things, like bringing Restore Condition in an area with a lot of condition spam (as an easy example).
Tahlkora's Shiro'ken non-healer Monk bar really didn't help Koss with his vampiric weapon much did it? :P
I actually made a Guild Wars 1 tool for generating codices and challenges. I tweeted you about it; I could see you potentially enjoying it given some of your comments at the beginning. I also enjoy exploring weird builds and exploring the breadth of what can be done. It's always good to shake things up!

I'm so into this playthrough
The game bugging out could be because of having minimized the game window and reopening it, or alt-tab'ing to other windows and back. I have similar problems whenever I do that, npc's teleporting around and all.
I reeeeeally hope they don't make Cantha overrun by enemies like Elona, I want Shing Jea to be a training ground and do school chores to fulfill hearts etc. :c
We need more beautiful roleplay places too.

@WoodenPotatoes i was wondering if you would now considering finishing the "story summary" videos you did back then and stopped with "Guild Wars 2 Lore: The Headmaster". specially now with elona already being a place one can visit in gw2 already , you might be able to finish ALL gw1 in one go.
Saying their new expansion might come out this year was incredibly optimistic, I would think maybe next year possibly the year after

i love this, i just recently started playing guild wars 1 again and now that i am older and more able to design my own builds for my hero and character i need to know how much damage im doing and what my hero are doing, where did you get your damage meter from? :)
I had bought the Guild Wars Complete Collection. All I have done to this point is fool around a bit in Prophesies. I assume that what you are doing here is the Factions that is in that set? lol, yes, I am falling behind on WP vids.

Kinda minor spoilers for GW2 Path of Fire and Season 4.
I just realized, you have Tahlkora on your team, The Last Spearmarshal in GW2. To see that she was a part of GW1 just makes her fate in GW2 more sad to me.
And then I realized: What happened to her after the awakened were freed? Is she still lying there or did she finally die?
I can't remember if there is a beastmaster mob, if there is then a new pet Tsuru is a possibility. :D

I'm very happy you're going to gloss over a lot of the gameplay elements like gearing and skill acquisition and so on- as a player who started on gw2 I enjoy that stuff in your gw2 let's play in a nostalgic sort of way, it gives me the same feeling as when I show a new player the ropes- but I have none of that appreciation for the gw1 stuff, it would bore me and I'd wager I'm not alone there. That said, I think it would be worthwhile for you to throw in a few of the side missions- if they're interesting. If you think this or that side mission might tie in to contemporary gw2 story in some way, it would be cool to show us that.

Cantha always seemed controversial in Gw2 times. But now looking back at the story, a plague in an Asian asethetic may not be a good idea to repeat with current events
It's almost as if plague and disease have been a theme in large continental-sized Asian countries throughout history...
We already had a plague to deal with in Gw2 which was the one in LS4, I don't think they will bring another plague for cantha. This is more than 250 years ago. We may get some references but the story will have nothing to do with it. I am 99% sure it has something to do with the deepsea dragon and the xenophobic empire. Jormag and Bengar are now leading us to cantha and then we go on from there.
