In what ways do you or would you use use a harmonizer? Comment below!! Also, I decided to NOT address the Mash button in this video due to all the other features. Will do a follow up soon!
It confuses me seeing people bothered by the use of delay and reverb on this channel. Chords of Orion is primarily aimed at ambient guitar players, and I'm sure TC has enough demos from people playing the effect through a clean chain. Dude just wants to show ambient players how this particular effect could be used in this specific context, which I find particularly helpful.
Thank you, I love ambient playing and the sounds created with lots of Reverb and delay. His channel is immensely helpful for me because he is one of the only guys doing this for us and helping us explore our ambient dreamscape with ideas/howto and tools to create some kool stuff
I see your point, and absolutely love what he is pulling out of his guitar rig here. It could/should have been titled better to avoid confusion, though. The misleading title makes it feel a little like false advertising. When people read *demo*, they expect to hear how the pedal effects on an otherwise relatively dry tone. If it was titled *Exploring Sounds of TC Quintessence in my FX Chain*, it'd be a totally different deal. That's my $.02, anyway.
Love the review.. very straight forward; only thing I would have done differently is have a section where the only effect being used is the harmonizer by itself (i.e. no delay/reverb, etc).. nit-picking but that's my two cents worth.. thanks for the very useful & informative review!
One of the best harmonizing boxes I've heard yet. Definitely a device to check out as I can hear tons of dual lead guitar parts opening up for single guitar bands. Unless, you're Brian May and already sound like an orchestra any way!
I really appreciated that you kept the general note structure the same throughout, but changed the phrasing based on how the interval made you feel. Also, this video doesn't purport to be a scientific method kind of pedal demonstration, so I enjoyed hearing the pedal in context with other effects, which are listed in the description. Very nice!
Yes, what could one guitar do with this to replicate some ABB harmony parts. Also I can dig the ambient thing but would love to hear some samples w/o all the reverb/delay.
I love the licks you chose to play to enlight the power of this pedal, that i didn't know of. I was looking for a new pedal to add to my board, think i found it!
Wise words indeed and thank you again for you're great videos . they are not only informative but entertaining as well . I hope that some day I can report back with something awesome to share
Took me ages to re find this video. Even though I liked and subscribed. So I have book marked. Awesome sounds. No one else has reviewed a pedal like this in such a luscious full sounding way. So thanks to you I now have ordered one knowing what I am getting. Super channel Thanks
Fantastic demo, Bill! Seems like the tracking is pretty accurate. I have an EHX POG 2 and the tracking is perfect.....Thinking of using this on a Lyra-8 synth...These are drone machines and have a crazy architecture, nothing like the usual analog synth VCO-VCF-VCA....
Unrelated to the video itself but I wanted to thank you for our small discussion about Frippertronics pedals a few days ago. You mentioned the Strymon El Capistan, and I ended up buying it instead of the X4 looper. It's such a fantastic pedal with a great sound and a great range, and for that trademark Frippertronics™ technique it's downright perfect, since its 'sound on sound' mode pretty much simulates exactly what Fripp himself did with outstanding beauty. I recommend it for your next pedal outing!
How well would this perform on the song Ventura Highway? I'm looking for a pedal that will play the harmony part of the little trill lead that plays throughout the song
Amazing demo as always and great to see that feeling in your playing! :) I think it's about time I subscribed... Not nearly enough of this kind of guitar videos, since everything is overrun by "true rock'n'roll" dry tones.
Ta-dah ! Subscribed ... I am not new to guitar but still consider myself a beginner . I have trouble understanding the basic fundamentals of music (in the formal sense at least) . for many a day creating "electronic music" has been my thing, a short cut if you will to personal expression . I LOVE Ambient music and now realize after watching your many videos that the guitar may be the route for me . %')
This great. Can I use this pedal when I am learning the songs like The Boys Are Back in town, Highway Star, Owner of a Lonely Heart, Hold the Line? Sorry for the many questions..
It's preference and given the wide possibilities that happen upon the interwebs, perhaps it might be appropriate to provide a dry sound with the effect, then your fully saturated sound in the mix?
I agree, needs alot and I mean ALOT more to be convincing enough to "sway" me to buy this pedal.add in a a powerful eye squeeze after a mind-blowing roll and I'll b sold all the way
A lot of those harmonies remind me of somethin' I'd hear from Brian May. And as ya got into the Toneprints, very reminiscent to somethin' ya might hear from Steve Hackett, Mike Rutherford, or even Daryl Stuermer. I got the Boss PS 6 Harmonist in my main pedal board and it can do some amazin' chorus sounds in the Detune mode. I also plan to buy a used Boss HR-2 Harmonist. Seen demos on that before and I love what it can do in detune mode. Keep up the good work!
Please can you help. Is there a way to use it out of any scale, chromaticly? For example, geting chromaticly -5 note anywhere. Otherwise i just bought a wrong pedal..
I am not sure what you are referring to, but it is probably best to consult the manual for the scales and modes available on the pedal: mediadl.musictribe.com/media/PLM/data/docs/P0DDK/QUINTESSENCE%20HARMONY_M_EN.pdf
dear friend i liked the review and the harmony pedal. I am Brazilian and musician here, ask me a question, if I want to make an adaptation, where at the entrance of the pedal signal instead of a guitar enter for example a microphone plugged in for voice, at the exit of the pedal will the voice come out too? or will the pedal recognize it as a guitar tone at the output?
It's not a synthesizer so it will only output the sounds you input. For example I use a harmonizer on Trumpet and the low harmony sounds like a Trombone. BUT I've tried my harmonizer (Boss) with voice and it is very hard to stay in tune enough for it, there are better harmonizers for vocals.
So if I set this pedal to C Major, and set the doubler to add a third above, it will play a major third or a minor third depending on what note I play, for example, if I play C, E, or G, the pedal adds a major third, and if I play D, F, A or B, it adds a minor third, correct?
Please please, could you demo it with chords ? That's what I'm interesting in it for. I would like to hear how it glitches and if it sounds nice (as the Whammy in classic mode glitches really nicely on chords). I don't know how it tracks and how the algorithm generates the added pitches when playing chords. Does it still stay in the scale (for every note of the chord)? Thanks for the great melodic demos.
Too bad I can only press "Like" one time . So ... sooo much to like about your style of playing . Sorry that I have neglected to place my primitive finger on the SUBSCRIBE tab till now...
So if I play a note outside that key, the harmony will keep itself to the nearest note in the key? Great learning instrument and ccan be done with intention to emphasize an "incorrect" note in a solo or interlude, while keeping an in-key element to help you stay grounded. Very cool pedal. Love the ambient nature of these demos. I don't play the blues all the time and it's nice to see other styles on youtube
I'm basically looking for something to do April Wine/Eagles/Thin Lizzy harmonized solos. This seems a bit complicated compared to say the EHX Pitch Fork or the Boss one, but the Boss one tracks like doodoo and I cannot find a straightforward demo on the EHX. Is this something that could help me out?
The Pitch Fork will not help you out for harmonized solos, as it only can do a fixed pitch shift. The TCE and Boss units can intelligently switch intervals as needed to stay in the key/mode you are playing in. I think that the Quintessence can help you out, but you will need to invest a little time in learning about modes. You don't need to learn the names of all the modes - just the ones you normally play in, like major, harmonic minor, etc.
I just cannot figure out how to use this pedal to create harmonic lines. I understand the circle of 5th, but everytime I try what I think might work - it's off! Any insights would be most helpful. I don't want to give up on this pedal just yet. Thanks!
Hey, i have a Zoom MS-50G & MS70-CDR. Really happy with them, but also like what you are demoing. Might anyone know if my Zooms can do anything like what you have in your TC? Tnx all. ss
In what ways do you or would you use use a harmonizer? Comment below!! Also, I decided to NOT address the Mash button in this video due to all the other features. Will do a follow up soon!
Chords Of Orion I like kicking on harmony momentarily for emphasis. Really dig this.
Lovely sounds! I would use for emphasis, some chords swells, and I would even play around trying it with singing/microphone.
Faking synth leads.
@cosmogang Cool! I've been playing around with something similar - using the MASH button to change the harmony momentarily.
@Anderson Ziemmer
I have not yet tried the Quintessence with a microphone. That would be interesting for sure.
It confuses me seeing people bothered by the use of delay and reverb on this channel. Francis Maria Regalado I know it's pretty funny, no one reads anymore. Or thinks.
Some people probably just did a search on the pedal itself and did not realize that Chords of Orion is an ambient channel . . .
This dood is the Bob Ross of stomp boxes! Love it
What a wonderful tool for not only tone shaping and creating soundscapes, but for teaching and learning. Brilliant TC Electronics.
You are great in Game of Thrones!
:)
Haha it's that strong onion knight beard I was just envying!!!!
Love the review.. very straight forward; only thing I would have done differently is have a section where the only effect being used is the harmonizer by itself (i.e. no delay/reverb, etc).. nit-picking but that's my two cents worth.. thanks for the very useful & informative review!
That 4th +7th is super dissonant in such a phenomenal way
One of the best harmonizing boxes I've heard yet. Definitely a device to check out as I can hear tons of dual lead guitar parts opening up for single guitar bands.

Thanks Ryan!
Me hace feliz que disfrutes de la música como un niño después de navidad...
Brilliant P90 tones and exquisite playing .... superb mini show-demo !
Great to hear you review that delay pedal 🙃
I would love to hear someone do Allman Brothers stuff with this
Yes, what could one guitar do with this to replicate some ABB harmony parts. Also I can dig the ambient thing but would love to hear some samples w/o all the reverb/delay.
You can kinda get close to Jessica with this pedal. You would have to set up the MASH switch for a couple of notes, but you could do it in theory.
This is GENIUS. Definitely buying this pedal. Brilliant demo, sir!
I love the licks you chose to play to enlight the power of this pedal, that i didn't know of.
I was looking for a new pedal to add to my board, think i found it!
I have just bought the tc quintessence pedal and this both useful and enjoyable. Thanks!
Wow! Great pedal! Love it and love your channel
Wise words indeed and thank you again for you're great videos . they are not only informative but entertaining as well . I hope that some day I can report back with something awesome to share
I want to hear JUST this pedal, not all the reverbs and delays! And does it track bending, etc very well? This demo hides that aspect...
Lovin the sound of this pedal. Just bought one on the strength of this vid. Will go nicely with my hall of fame 2 and flashback 2 👍
Took me ages to re find this video. Even though I liked and subscribed. So I have book marked. Awesome sounds. No one else has reviewed a pedal like this in such a luscious full sounding way. So thanks to you I now have ordered one knowing what I am getting. Super channel Thanks
this was a treat to watch. this one is going on the board. great licks dude
A TC harmonizer?! I've been waiting so long for this!!! Getting it ASAP!
This sounds beautiful
thank you, ser Davos.
Harmonies for Stannis
I've always wanted one of these pedals. Just fun fun fun. Great review thanks
(my mind) ka-blewie - * - an entire further avenue in musical expression - ah - so little time, so many cool aspirations! Thanks, Bill, great demo!
Thanks!!!!
Thanks You. You did a fine job showing each setting. Thx!
At first I was really sceptical about this pedal, but now I think I wanna buy it👌
That was great Bill thanks!. The harmonized notes sound really clean. Definitely a must get. And Your Bird Can Sing, here I come. 😀
Oh yes!!!
Bill, please do the demo to pair this with Sub n' Up. I think it's gonna be cool

Excellent!!!
Serious Vangelis and Tangerine Dream vibes with this!
Hey Bill...when you get well again can you do a lesson with examples on leadlines such as the one featured here at 2:50 ....sounds great
I subscribed in less than 10 seconds just because of how ecstatic your face was!
I love how you mix theory with pedals
How well would this perform on the song Ventura Highway? I'm looking for a pedal that will play the harmony part of the little trill lead that plays throughout the song
How do you play guitar while sleeping? 🤔
I'm really waiting to hear someone toneprint this to do some Allman Brothers.
buying one for sure, excelent video
Wow! Great pedal. Im gonna have to check this one out for sure!
Nice groves man .with an extremely ambient feel. Nice combo
Amazing demo as always and great to see that feeling in your playing! :)
I think it's about time I subscribed... Not nearly enough of this kind of guitar videos, since everything is overrun by "true rock'n'roll" dry tones.
Thanks very much!!
excelent my friend, and so helpful. Very emotional playing too... subcribed

Guitar is not the only option for ambient music, but it certainly is a great option!
Wow, you really sold me on this pedal with this video. This one's on my wish list until the bucks come in to get it...
Excellent!
Your playing on the Toneprint settings sounded great. Reminded me of some of those long Pink Floyd song intros. Great work!
Thanks very much!
Thanks for your excellent video and beautiful music
Songwriter capabilities built in. Nice ...very nice !
This great. Can I use this pedal when I am learning the songs like The Boys Are Back in town, Highway Star, Owner of a Lonely Heart, Hold the Line? Sorry for the many questions..
Ok, so you like delay and reverb but I would have preferred to hear the effect that you are featuring on it's own.
Beautiful !! That's a piece by itself ...
It's preference and given the wide possibilities that happen upon the interwebs, perhaps it might be appropriate to provide a dry sound with the effect, then your fully saturated sound in the mix?
This pedal seems to fit very well in ambient guitar.
That sounds great! Would you consider making a video while you run it through the effects loop of the Strymon Timeline?
I love It. Add to that the Superego from EHX and you can trip for days
Not enough soulful head swaying. You need to work on that. :)
I agree, needs alot and I mean ALOT more to be convincing enough to "sway" me to buy this pedal.add in a a powerful eye squeeze after a mind-blowing roll and I'll b sold all the way
well that made me want to get one!
Stick one of these after the Mel9 but before a self -oscillating delay!
He looks like a mix between Thom Yorke and David Gilmour
your a real artist pure genius
Beautiful playing brother. Better than the TC demo itself!
Thanks!
Nice video mate! Keep it up!
Just bought one of these bad boys thanks to this video - thanks Bill ✌️✨🎸
Sounds great, Bill.
It’s got the most sarcastic intro I’ve ever seen in my life!!
You've got the coolest job in the world, I like the harmonizer I'd solo with that one! and I like the shimmer too Those machines are amazing!
A lot of those harmonies remind me of somethin' I'd hear from Brian May. I need this pedal
You look like your having much more fun with this pedal than the TC Brainwaves
This is simply amazing! Can this be used on an electric ukulele as well?
Yes!
My son is using it to harmonize calimba lines into a looper!
Hi... It works only in same scale or it´s possible changes to many of them, like jazz scales? Thanks.
I suggest checking the user manual for complete information: images-eu.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/91Gk9WOhZQS.pdf
Impressive tracking.
dear friend i liked the review and the harmony pedal. Tone print 1, what that an auto swell? Cause that could save me a pedal to buy maybe if it is
The reverb takes away from this demo... It's actually way too wet.
So if I set this pedal to C Major, and set the doubler to add a third above, it will play a major third or a minor third depending on what note I play, for example, if I play C, E, or G, the pedal adds a major third, and if I play D, F, A or B, it adds a minor third, correct?
Great . I see it does fine with finger pickin !

Can you do the demonstration without all the delay?
A 4 year old video? Nope.
Just purchased one of these pedals, unfortunately doesn't seem to work with the thin Lizzy dual stuff eg.emerald and cowboy song,a great shame.
If you are playing a melody song ,how do you know what scale to put it in , I’m not jamming , or do I put in custom if I don’t want to use any scales
It really highlights out-of-tune string bends, too. Helpful in practice, not so great live, unless you're accurate (the goal!).
oh, how I love the -/+3rd and -/+5th.
Thanks for the demo!
You are welcome!
thanks for this demo
if i'm Finger PICKING It will work or just can select octave, 3rd, 5th etc. ?
I'm basically looking for something to do April Wine/Eagles/Thin Lizzy harmonized solos. This one or the EHX PITCH FORK???
They are very different pedals. Are you looking for a harmonizer (Quintessence) or a polyphonic pitch shifter (pitch Fork)?
@@chordsoforion thanks for ur reply
I just cannot figure out how to use this pedal to create harmonic lines. I understand the circle of 5th, but everytime I try what I think might work - it's off! Any insights would be most helpful. I don't want to give up on this pedal just yet. Thanks!
will you please compare this to the EHX Intelligent Harmony Machine?
I have it on my schedule. Hopefully in the next week or 2. Stand by!
Hey, i have a Zoom MS-50G & MS70-CDR. Really happy with them, but also like what you are demoing. Might anyone know if my Zooms can do anything like what you have in your TC? Tnx all. ss
Im sold for this. Gotta change my pitchfork.
Just keep in mind that you can't play chords with the Quintessence. It's made for single notes.
Can this pedal be used for metal solo/Melody as well?
oh my god this looks awesome.
What if his head stayed still and his body waggled left and right.
same effect
Wil follow this channel...informative
