    Welcome to ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com. Today we’re doubling down with the Mimiq from TC Electronic. The Mimiq is a precision tone sculptor that imitates the long-used studio method of double tracking. Almost every rock record in the last 50 years has relied upon double tracking to add thickness and character to any instrument under the sun. The Mimiq breathes new life into this technique by giving you the choice of duplicating your original signal up to 3 more times for thick, chewy riffs and sparkling clean tones that will remind you of rock records of yore. The Tightness knob provides a varying degree of spatial separation, from tight, robotic tracking to loose, chorus-like doubling. Dialing in just the right amount of dry signal is a breeze thanks to individual Effect and Dry knobs. The Effect knob controls the amount of doubled signal in the path, while the Dry knob dials in the amount of clean signal. If the Mimiq doesn’t create enough space in mono, it features true stereo ins and outs for an authentic mix-filling doubler experience. And like all TC pedals, the Mimiq is wired for true bypass switching for optimal tonal preservation.

      The joke was that since siamese dream has a million guitar overdubs you'd need loads of doubler pedals to get that sound

    • @XChristianNoirX
      @XChristianNoirX 6 років тому +15

      The funny thing is.. Their rhythm tones are almost all ONLY 2 TRACKS.
      The millions if guitar tracks are for all the noises, some of the octave doubling/harmonies, ebow harmonies, and... COMPED SOLOS.
      The solos were comped. Like singing often is. Otherwise, they'd be impossible (or so close to impossible it wouldn't be worth it). Cherub Rock.. Quiet.. Soma solos.... Amazing! ....but comped.
      Great joke though.. Awesome! Lol

      +J583 the keeley 30ms is more of a "retro" vintage pedal. This is way more practical for modern sounds

      @dickphallus7826 7 років тому +3

      Foe metal(and this is important)"this" like the mimiq or "this" like the 30 ms?

    • @eddievhfan1984
      @eddievhfan1984 7 років тому +13

      The Mimiq does multi-tracking by using a set of delays that randomize their delay times on almost every note struck, so you get the variation in timing without that pitch warble you get from more traditional chorus pedals. Or at least, the pitch shifting is significantly more subdued. The Keeley 30ms sounds really sexy IMO, but it's intended more for pitch-based doubling like flanging or fixed detuning in the style of an Eventide Harmonizer. If you want a metal wall or something less artificial sounding, the Mimiq is your baby. You want more lush doubling sounds? The 30ms is for you.

    • @dickphallus7826
      @dickphallus7826 7 років тому +1

      any reason i would be getting more bass out of one side(probably the original signal)?And messing with the dry knob doesnt help.It makes a change but nothing i can use.Im getting better results from the vocal processor doubler i already had and even that does the same thing if i pand too wide or use a guitar sound with a lot of bottom.The only way i have to use the mimiq is to run the amp mic to the pedal,out of both outputs and into both interface inputs.Id like to use it if theres a way but the difference in the two stereo sides is way to different.One ear takes all the bass.

    • @PartyChicken407
      @PartyChicken407 4 роки тому +3

      Jacob Hartman if you never got around to doing this. Do it. It’s cheap to setup a stereo rig ; just get a garbage amp to get started as your B rig, then slowly upgrade it as you go.
      I have the mimic in a stereo rig with a Mesa dual running everything, but the Other signal goes back to a peavey bandit + 4x10. Random, but it sounds killer. Try the mimiq in stereo. Amazing.

    • @duffman18
      @duffman18 3 роки тому +1

      Yeah even doing one of the amps as just a crappy practice amp, this thing sounds AMAZING. One fantastic amp and one crappy amp is fine. Eventually you can get another good amp though and then have this thing running genuine stereo into them. And do stuff like one signal clean, one dirty, which is a fantastic sound, almost other worldly

      @IanMainBliss 2 роки тому

      Yeah what these guys said. I have 3 amps.. 2 really nice one and 1 is one of those 80's yamaha 12" jobs. Of course maybe that's not a crappy amp to many but any 2 of them sound great. It doesn't take much to add stereo effect and it sounds WAY better. totally worth doing.

    One thing that I keep wanting to see from all the reviews on this pedal, is the actual waveforms recorded onto two different tracks in a DAW. How close do they resemble each other with tightness at the extremes? Or with tightness in the middle? I want to see the imperfections in those waves to see that it isn't simply a sample delay, but something a bit more sophisticated. Couldn't I get a similar effect by automating my second guitar track with slightly moving Has effect (a sample delay moderately sawing back and forth between 0ms and 30ms) and then automate another small sawing of pitch by cents? Point is, show me the waveforms, and turn the tightness knob while recording to see how much of a difference it makes.

    • @ProGuitarShopDemos
      @ProGuitarShopDemos  2 роки тому +2

      That sounds like a good experiment! The TC algorithms are surely more than just a fixed delay or even subtle modulation. They claim it to be a bit more random/human involving pitch shifting and delay.

    i doubt this is for studio sessions and most likely made for live shows. Very cool, but i would want to be able to adjust the pan settings for the stereo routing. Without that, it sounds like too much signal in the left channel unless your mixer is not calibrated correctly? and maybe i want dub 1 in the left, 2 in the center and 3 in the right or to be able to switch then around would be a major upgrade. I know its a micro pedal, but a pan knob or something would solve that.

    • @JustinLesamiz
      @JustinLesamiz 7 років тому +1

      You CAN adjust the pan. That's effectively what the effect and dry knobs do. When you have it set to 1 dub, one signal goes to the left and one to the right. The effect knob controls the volume of the left channel. The dry knob controls the volume of the right channel. So, you can definitely change the volume to make them the same. Andy just chose not to for some reason. Also, the pedal should have just labeled those knobs RIGHT VOLUME and LEFT VOLUME, to make it more clear. Although, I guess it no longer really works that way once you have more than 1 dub, but it probably COULD.
      I own this pedal.

    I would love to play my electric cello through this. I sometimes use chorus and octave pedals to create the effect of multiple instruments and to fatten the sound. I can't shell out for a pedal just based on how it sounds in a review, especially because I play a different instrument. Maybe Guitar Center carries it and I can try it there.

      Interesting! Do you have a video about your electric cello?

      Not a daisy chain, but in parallel then recombined. You keep it tight enough you could probably get close to the Achilles Last Stand tone.

    Another nice review. One question, where did you place your distortion pedal in your signal chain. Before or after the Mimiq?

    I do believe there s a problem with this pedal. On a stereo set up (where the pedal shound shine) the guitar sound as a left stereo pan predominace (on this video ). This happens cause the short delay on the right makes our brain think the sound comes from the left. It s just how our ears work. I do think the algorithm could be abIt better and i think you can easily achive this result with two amps and any

      Your english is fine, brutha.
      And I'm hoping this pedal could cut a considerable amount of time in the studio. It would save so much time and money, I wish I had known about this (or anything similar) years ago.

    Funny.....this is the second demo I've watched where not a pinch harmonic in sight. I'm assuming it doesn't do this well, unless perhaps in stereo mode?

    I'd love to here this ran on an auction return and recorded so we could here it toggled between original and doubled to hear a side by side comparison.

    Interesting esp. the acoustic. And its price bucks the trend of ever more expensive pedals so its an easy buy.
