im buying my first quad soon and i found this video very helpfull best youtube video ive seen about driving manual quads you gained a new subscriber and liked :3
This was very helpful! I’ll be getting a quad soon and I’ve never driven anything but an auto and I’ve never had any toys. My husband and son are here to teach me but it’s good to have an idea of what I’m getting in to before that starts.
Just a beginners tip: You dont have to slowly let out the clutch while you are rolling, its only when you are stationary that you have to let it out slowly, if you let it our too fast your motor will stall.
I was wondering that. Cause its the same as a car in most ways right? I'm about to buy my first quad but have daily'd a manual car for about a year now
Was looking for this comment, I kind of freaked when he said this, it's misinformed! YOU CAN START IT ON NEUTRAL OR GEAR only difference is you don't need to pull the clutch in on neutral!!!
Guys, I purposely said this. Any beginner just starting out learning how to ride with a clutch should not be starting a quad or bike in gear with the clutch pulled in. That's an accident waiting to happen. If you're watching the video and already know you can start your quad while it's in gear with the clutch pulled in, the video is not meant for you. Its meant for beginners.
@@Motoposh Here's a question... i've never ridden an atv or motorbike before, but i drive "stick" and hoon my car on back roads ect all the time. How easy do you think it would be to transfer my driving skills to a bike considering i'm pretty good in a car (drifts and powerslides come easy to me) but just never felt a draw to bikes/quads? I know it's a daft question lol....
Mr. Dodo i learned on an atv first a 450r (still ride) and then i already knew everything when driving stick so i taught myself, for you it’s going to be super easy it’s like stick but using ur hand as clutch and feet as the “stick”
Thank you very heplful i started at a 125cc and were going to yamaha tommorow to get a kiosk which is a 421cc and now it will be so much esier to learn since i got all of that down
My dad bought be a racing ATV yeasterday from my uncle and he is going to teach me how to ride it today but I wanted to look like I knew something 😂 thanks
You can also start atv by holding in clutch while in any gear to start without putting atv into neutral.. pulling in clutch is basically like being in neutral
Hey I just got 2000 Yamaha warior 350 , is my first time driving a squad I am slowly learning but I have a question , whenever I am in high gears I can stop and slowly pull the clutch and let it go every time I downshift gears ? Or I can hold the clutch and down shift gears ?
Thanks Tyler! To answer your question, on a quad you just have to listen to the engine. Once the engine sounds like its revving high then its time to shift
I just got a new quad today. I do not know how to use it the guy kept asking aren’t you going to put it in the garage. Id had to make an excuse that I had to clean my garage.. I had to push it in Because I don’t not know how to use it this video help me thanks man
Definitely! The key is just a little bit of throttle, just don't rev the shit out of it haha. Too much throttle and you'll burn your clutch up or do a pretty awesome wheelie
imposh I don't understand the logic behind this lol so let's say you're at 0mph and you want to go to 10mph how quick would you be able to do that? Like professional racers how do you take off quick
No problem! So it depends what type of racing you're talking about, if you're talking about racing quads they will hold the throttle at maybe 25% and drop the clutch to grt a good holeshot out of the gate. If you're riding on the street just casually you wouldn't want to do this because it pretty hard on your clutch. Also many racers don't even use the clutch, which is called clutchless shifting... Also hard on things especially if not done properly
Thank you for this video it will hopefully help me a lot seeing you actually showed motion of foot and hand thank you any tips for a new rider would be great
Ha man thx for your advise because I am getting a four wheeler next year and I might see you on the road on 41 St. You might see me in a 1993 Ford Mustang
Please guide me, my father, I have a 125 ATV. Why does it happen that when I want to go straight, the ATV actually goes sideways, as a result it hits a trash can. what should I do sir? Kindly ask for tips
I use to have a YFZ 450 so I know how to work the clutch but I just got a Raptor 700 and I couldn't learn figure out how to go into to reverse if it killed me.. lol Awesome vid got my thumbs up and subscribe:)
Either! Whatever your preference is. Typically I'll sit in 1st with the clutch pulled in, but sometimes if its a long red light I'll put it in neutral and let the clutch out
Not sure what my friends had but it was a 3 wheeler and they said u had to clutch it once in a while when your increasing at a certain speed, why is that?
What if your going really fast and you want to stop because there is a kid crossing or something when you break do you also shift to first gear right away ?
what if im in lets say 4th gear, and im not trying to stop but slowing down, maybe to half the speed im traveling, do i just shift down to second then let the clutch back out?
So to brake or stop while moving in 2nd or 3rd or whichever, all i have to do is pull the clutch, pull the break and then shift to neutral once im no longer moving??? Im very confused when it comes time to stop.
You don't seem confused at all, that's exactly right. To stop, lets say you're in 3rd gear, pull the clutch in and apply brakes to come to a stop. Then you'll want to downshift into 1st once you're ready to start moving again. I usually down shift as I'm slowing down (with the clutch in of course), So when I've slowed down a bit ill shift into 2nd, then 1st as I'm coming to a stop. Ride Safe!
Buying one without any clutch experience, just for the sake of knowing how to ride with a clutch and shift gears. Thanks for the comfortable tutorial, wouldn't mind seeing another better version by you lol
Do you have to keep pulling in the clutch for shifting every gear on my friends warrior you on need to use the clutch to get moving after that you can just shift?
Most larger quads like a yfz 450 of raptor 700 have manual transmissions where you have to pull the clutch in every time. If you want one like your friend has that's more of a beginner quad and has what's called a semi automatic transmission. But on most sport quads you will have to pull in the clutch with every shift

+sub. thanks for showing off manual driving atv. If all sport quads are manual, why are so many big utilities touting out awesome a cvt is ?
Do you let the gas go when you are switching to the next gear?
Are there automatic quads? I'm god awful with manual
Don't you have to turn the reverse numb again to put it back in first?
great video man. this was very helpful!! 👌😊
Best video i seen on this topic yet ! But how do i know when to shift gears ?
Thanks Tyler! To answer your question, on a quad you just have to listen to the engine. Once the engine sounds like its revving high then its time to shift

Been planning to get an ATV, I’m new but what’s the point of the clutch? And what do the different gears do?
Slowly release clutch then hit the thing on the right down to drive if is that right
‘Does donut’
-alright guys, so we made it to the county. :dd
When taking off in 1st gear can you give it a bit of throttle then let of the clutch slowly?
Definitely! The key is just a little bit of throttle, just don't rev the shit out of it haha. Too much throttle and you'll burn your clutch up or do a pretty awesome wheelie

So does all the Suzuki Ltz 400 /450 are with backwards switch
You can turn on the quad without it being in neutral as long as your holding in your clutch

+Boss Haas Haha awesome man! What color?
I'm thinking about getting white or blue.
wate for the mustang or atv because the four wheeler is white or blue but the mustang is red.
U can go into any gear hold in the clutch and start it
When you race another atv do you just put the gears up with no clutch.
Do you think that works on a 350 raptor racing quad that's what mine is
When did quads become legal to ride in the street? So cool. Wish we could I'm Australia too.

What kind of quad do you have? And what are some good quads to buy if it’s your first time ridding a quad?
I have a raptor 700, a good first quad if you're on a budget is a raptor 350 or a Honda ex400. They are both super reliable and good to start out on
I use to have a YFZ 450 so I know how to work the clutch but I just got a Raptor 700 and I couldn't learn figure out how to go into to reverse if it killed me.. lol Awesome vid got my thumbs up and subscribe:)
Haha yeah it's a bit weird!
put it in 1st, turn the knob and hold, shift down one more time and it shifts into reverse
When sitting at a stop light should you be in neutral or 1st. Also clutch in or out
Either! Whatever your preference is. Typically I'll sit in 1st with the clutch pulled in, but sometimes if its a long red light I'll put it in neutral and let the clutch out

what if im in lets say 4th gear, and im not trying to stop but slowing down, maybe to half the speed im traveling, do i just shift down to second then let the clutch back out?
You got it. But I would shift into 3rd let the clutch out, then shift into 2nd while you're slowing down
thanks dude!! great video btw!
I have the same quad and I don’t have to pull in the clutch to change gears
Just a quick question wat tyres pressure do u run on roads
About 6psi
Are your toes under the gear leaver to go from 1st to 2nd or is it your heal pushing the leaver down ?
Toes are under the shifter
This is a great video. You have a street legal quad? I’m from NJ we can ride them on the road out here. This was helpful just bought a 400 ex.

Are you in Sioux Falls
Do you have to keep pulling in the clutch for shifting every gear on my friends warrior you on need to use the clutch to get moving after that you can just shift?
I need to pull in the clutch for every shift
So it’s just certain ones because I’m looking to get a sport quad?

How is your four wheeler street legal?
Best learning video ever thanx
Like I have a quad and you have to shift down to 1st should I ghost down or go straight to 2nd?
Well once you get it started you put it in 1st gear and once it’s at a good speed and high enough revs change to second .
