This reminds me of the Weber I found abandoned in the Rockies about 20 years ago. It was a Smokey Joe. Just sitting there alone in the woods for who knows how long. Both grates were missing, but that was an easy fix. I drilled a hole in the lid for a good thermometer low on the vent side. Man, I've done just about everything on that thing...fish, ribs, burgers, brats, ham, chicken (wings are great on a Smokey Joe but be careful not to put too much wood smoke on them), turkey breast. It's the grill that I really started BBQ'ng with and I pretty much haven't cooked on a gas grill since. Years later, I rescued a vintage full size Weber kettle that was abandoned outside a storage unit. So, now I can do large cooks as well. I used the big one to do a slab of dino ribs last Christmas. Amazing. If you are channeling your inner caveman and pay attention to your fire situation, either of these Webers are solid options for BBQ. They hold temperature way better than an uninsulated cooker should.
My dad was born in 62’. He passed away in February of this year, so the year of this Weber made me think of him. I bought him his first smoker, and I remember how happy he was when he opened it. Thinking about him makes me want to throw something on the smoker right now.
At first I was like... you really should clean of the rust and repaint it etc etc etc.. but then I came to my senses and love how you made it functional again while retaining it's character. Love it Joe!
Joe, great job. I love the use of the Weber Kettle. This content is making it possible for the average backyard cook to create amazing Q on the cheep. I'm was having a good chuckle while i was watching. In 1962 they were pouring gas or starter fluid to light things. Now we know better.
Yo Joe. Thanks for the revitalization of that old Weber. That Que was build to last a life time . I'm 68 and have 3. A 22", an 18", and a Smokey Joe that travels for those Great Beach ⛱ Barbecues I do for the kids. You can not beat a fresh grilled sausage/hot dog at the Beach. YUM. ONLY thing I would have done differant would have been to hsve gotten the 22" grill that h as filp open sides to ad briquets as needed. Really glad you didn't try to re-paint or powder coat. Keep up the great videos. Best of health & Best Regards...ff😎
Awesome vid you kept the antique nature of the grill and added new parts to keep it going for another 60 years ...If I had to critasise it would be don't be stingy with the mustard and put whole condiments on the bottom so you don't loose them but to each there own keep up the great work
I love your content Joe! Excellent recipes! Tons of gear and equipment! Top quality production value, studly charisma, and now pit restoration! Best BBQ channel on UA-cam!
Awesome video, 😁I was born in 1962, and I just renovated my 1991 Weber kettle, your kettle looks in great shape for being 61 yrs old. It's pretty cool that the porcelain preserves the metal, I like that you mention a 57 Chevy, I have a 57 Chevy truck and yes the doors fit perfect. Thank you Peace! ☮
Way cool and the perfect way to break it in. The one tweak I did on my top grate was to give it a spin and identify the rails that collide. You can use a hand file or angle grinder to carefully remove the bumps and get that grate spinning like grandma on polka night! Great project joe.
Hi Joe . . . appreciate your 'restoration' of this vintage Weber kettle bbq but have to point out you're missing a key part of the assembly. I know, because I have and am still using the same model. The flanges you are resting your charcoal grate on are actually meant to hold a 3"-deep ash dish that captures the ash, preventing it from falling to the bottom of the kettle and clogging the air vents. This ash dish has a half-inch lip that allows it to sit on those flanges. The charcoal grate then sits on top of the ash dish. Interesting feature about the ash dish is the half-inch lip I mentioned earlier is perforated with about 100 small holes. This allows fresh air to be drawn in from the bottom kettle vents to fan the charcoal. Unfortunately, these ash dishes are the first part to rust out and they are as scarce as hens' teeth to find. I know because I'm is badly rusted and I've been looking for a replacement for years!
Hey Joe, I’m late to the party but when I saw that 1962 aqua blue Weber kettle I had to stop and watch. Brought back a lot of memories. My parents got the same one in 1962. I was born in 1964 and we had that Weber for years. Lots of steaks, hamburgers and my mom’s famous chicken. Man I wish I had that in my backyard right now. I would restore it just like you did. Thanks for the great video and walk down memory lane. 🥩🍔🍗
Awesome 60 year old Weber! Lucky dog. I inherited a 40 year old weber kettle (1982). It was my wife's Granddad's. No temperature guage. I wouldn't trade it for anything . Great channel, subscribed
Great video Joe. I appreciate how you did the work on the old girl. Gave her a basic clean up but not to much. I really do hope you didn't throw away the grills though. If cleaned up they would make great metal wall art in a bbq area. Anyway have a great day 🌤. 😁👍🔥🌭🍻
Most Americans are taller... I'm still short. LOL. That was a great find Joe. Join the Weber Kettle Club and then you can see if anyone is hoarding the rubber tires. There are a lot of real nice people in that club and a lot of them will just give it to you if you pay postage. Great to see that come back to life.
You should had been at my curb 5 years ago. I put out a just past prime 90's Weber 22". It even had a pretty new cooking grate and usable charcoal side pockets. Hadn't used it in 5 years. Too big for our 2 burgers. I have at least 5 other grills. If I see one I like and it's $1 off, it's mine. Some are still in the box. It didn't last an hour out there.
This takes me back when I was 18 years old how me and my brother restored our 1953 trokita when we were done it came out really beautiful dam I wish I still had my trokita lol Joe great restoration love the sausage dog
I gave a guy $50 two summers ago for a 22", 18", and 2 Smokey Joe's. They looked new once you washed the barn dust off. The date code on the big ones showed them in 2000 and 2002. Split them with my neighbor. I want to restore and old one for sure!
Cool video brother! Once again, you’ve inspired me 😊 I have the same size kettle you have there plus, a smaller one that works well on a picnic table top. Those old Webber’s are hard to beat. Assuming you got everything from Webber?
Nicely done! I have one that isn't quite that old that I am going to restore. I was wondering if you could point me in the right direction for the bottom vent covers? Mine has the same style
Another weber kettle? Didn't you do one of these recently? I'm amazed at the results you're getting from these and your passion for keeping content fresh by making sure you do something new past just the food itself.
Hey, where did you find my Dad's first Weber? I just came across a photo from my deck at my house just after I bought it in 1983 -- almost 40 years ago. I had a Weber Smoky Joe -- my first Weber. The acorn didn't fall from the tree. Today I'm jammin' two Kamado Joe grills, a Big Joe and a Joe Jr. Looks like "Joe" is a theme in my life. I wish Dad was still around so I could cook something for him on my rig.
Thank you for rescuing that awesome Weber kettle. I'm curious, where did you get the replacement parts? I've seen replacement grills but not the legs, vent covers, and wheels.
Great job on the old Kettle!! I have an old one that was my Dad's. Never cooked on it since he passed but didn't want anyone to toss it so I brought it to my house. How do you find out what year it was manufactured?
So when did you restore the kettle? Replacing parts is not restoration, it's repair. You didn't even clean the frame or at a bare minimum sand the rust just a tiny bit.
No offense. but you didn't "restore" it. You put new parts on an old grill. Yo should have sanded everything down and repainted. Now you have new parts sitting on rust and the new parts will not last long.

That's so cool! I agree 💯
Usually a scrub with 0000 steel wool and some bacon grease and heat will take care of the rusty spots. Great job bringing back that old Glen Blue.
My dad was born in 62’.
He passed away in February of this year, so the year of this Weber made me think of him.
I bought him his first smoker, and I remember how happy he was when he opened it. Thinking about him makes me want to throw something on the smoker right now.
Sorry for your loss Matt. Fire up that smoker!🤘
At first I was like... you really should clean of the rust and repaint it etc etc etc.. but then I came to my senses and love how you made it functional again while retaining it's character.
Love it Joe!
Thanks buddy. The rust was really bad in those spots and I'm sure one day I'll have to cut the rust out and patch up the holes. Thanks for watching 👍🏼
60years old, and she still is beauty! Thank you Joe for the video. You handled her with care and respect and she became a 60s stunner again!🥰🥰👏👏
Thank you for watching Mona!🤘
Glad you kept the patina on this kettle! Lends credence to its originality. Looking forward to more videos with this Weber and its new lease on life!
Joe, great job. I love the use of the Weber Kettle. This content is making it possible for the average backyard cook to create amazing Q on the cheep. I'm was having a good chuckle while i was watching. In 1962 they were pouring gas or starter fluid to light things. Now we know better.
I remember in1968 my dad couldn't get the fire started so he used some deisel fuel! Those were the worst ribs 😫 in the world!!
That Weber is lookin good bro! 👍🏼
Yes sir, I use it all the time now. 👍🏼

PERFECT! My Webber now has a new lease on life! Thanks to your video
Yeah buddy, they're good forever 👍🏼

I have restored many old weber grills. Lack of porcelain and other defects has nothing to do with them cooking. Looks good.
Thanks George! 👍🏼
I HAVE 1972 WEBER & A 2015 . NO RUST ON THE 72 BEEN A GOOD ONE ....GOOD JOB THANKS
Way cool and the perfect way to break it in. The one tweak I did on my top grate was to give it a spin and identify the rails that collide. You can use a hand file or angle grinder to carefully remove the bumps and get that grate spinning like grandma on polka night! Great project joe.
That grill has such nice patina great find and it’s awesome you breathed new life into an old kettle.
Thanks Rodrigo.👍🏼

Nice Rehab, looks nice too.
Nice job rehabbing the 62’ kettle- she will last another 60 years
You saved a piece of history for sure!
Yes sir. Thanks for watching 👍🏼
Awesome 60 year old Weber! Lucky dog.
I inherited a 40 year old weber kettle (1982). It was my wife's Granddad's. No temperature guage. I wouldn't trade it for anything .

Awesome fish and it matches that 1k gallon. One thing that might help is a high temp clear coat to retain that look. 🍻
Great video Joe. I appreciate how you did the work on the old girl. Gave her a basic clean up but not to much. I really do hope you didn't throw away the grills though. If cleaned up they would make great metal wall art in a bbq area. Anyway have a great day 🌤. 😁👍🔥🌭🍻
Old timers would be proud! Those mustards are legit too on dogs and sausages.
Yes sir, these sausages were so darn good that I'm going to order about a case of them. 🤘

Nice Johnny! I'll have to check them out. 👍🏼
Way to preserve history Joe. If the first owners watched you video they probably are regretting throwing it away. Thanks for sharing….
Love that you kept the patina on the Kettle.
That thing was built to last. Nice restoration, nice dog!!
Crazy how long they last. This one was sitting out in the elements too. Thanks for watching John. 👍🏼
nice one joe!
Thanks Jack!👍🏼

Thanks Josh & Babe!🤘
Awesome job👍🏻🍺
Yea, we would slide the charcoal to the side and had the little side pieces to hold it there.
Nice work sir! Those Weber kettles are so good! Definitely a lot of folks first grill, myself included
I gave a guy $50 two summers ago for a 22", 18", and 2 Smokey Joe's. They looked new once you washed the barn dust off. The date code on the big ones showed them in 2000 and 2002. Split them with my neighbor. I want to restore and old one for sure!
Nice! These things last forever!
Great job Joe! I was really looking forward to this rebuild video. Thanks, John
love my old Weber's joe you can still get used rubber wheels, i try send you their link where i get mine. , nice restore joe
You should spray high temperate clear spray paint on it to preserve the patina
Love it bro! I've got a 2012 weber I already need to do an internal restoration on! We've got 4 different pits and I use that damn weber the most.
This is why we all use Weber kettles. They last forever.
Yeah buddy!🤘
Nice to see a fellow El Pasoan with a sweet ass BBQ channel.
Thank you Steven. 👍🏼
Good morning Joe☕
Morning brother!🤘
Excellent videos! Nice to see an outside video brother!
Mr Joe that kettle is as old as me!!
Very good video ❤️😍😍🤙👍
Nice job on the pit Joe👍...plus nice looking backyard buddy.
NICE.....I would love to see a restored side profile of this vintage weber on your next great video.
Привет из России! Тоже являюсь фанатом гриль Weber , качество у них шикарное
That kettle is well seasoned!
I am much taller then I was in '62 as well! (I was only 5-6 y/o)
🤣 now that's funny!🤘
Cool video brother! Once again, you’ve inspired me 😊 I have the same size kettle you have there plus, a smaller one that works well on a picnic table top. Those old Webber’s are hard to beat. Assuming you got everything from Webber?
You are blessed to have that classic!!!! Where did you find this?????
Nicely done! I have one that isn't quite that old that I am going to restore. I was wondering if you could point me in the right direction for the bottom vent covers? Mine has the same style

Great video. Love that color. Was that original color or was it painted?
I love how you decided to keep the patina and NOT to refinish the entire kettle.
Hey, where did you find my Dad's first Weber? I just came across a photo from my deck at my house just after I bought it in 1983 -- almost 40 years ago. I had a Weber Smoky Joe -- my first Weber. Thanks so much for watching. So many memories of these vintage grills. Gotta keep those memories alive. 🤘
I need to got some of those daisy wheel vents for my 1969 patent pending weber kettle - where did you order those?
I called Weber directly buddy. 👍🏼
Love the combo of the new parts with the awesome patina and that paint color is beyond classic! Would love to know where you got that hat, Joe.
Why do you slice the sausages, i am sure you have a reason i am not picking up :)
Also love seeing the old girl being restored to active duty
Just to let more smoky flavor on the sausage and keep it from busting open. 👍🏼
Great job on the Weber kettle!
Where did you find the new dampers????
Man that’s cool. Where the heck did you find that? Love the colour too.
Awesome video, where did you buy the grill legs from? Thanks
I called Weber directly and ordered them. 👍🏼
Thank you for rescuing that awesome Weber kettle. I'm curious, where did you get the replacement parts? I've seen replacement grills but not the legs, vent covers, and wheels.
I called Weber directly to order the parts. Thanks for watching 👍🏼
@@SmokinJoesPitBBQ
Oh okay, good to know. Thx!
It’s all factory Weber stuff. The vents are off the Smokey Mountain and darn near exactly what these had originally
Damn mmmm!😋👍🏻
Thank you 😁
😁Have an amazing blessed day Joe❣✌🏻
I can’t really tell in the video but is the handle hot.
👍
Thanks for watching Papa!👍🏼
Hey Joe, love the content, I’m also here in El Paso, where did you get that sweet hat?
weber of theseus
Did you save those original wheels?
Where you find that webber at, Fabens scrap yard, or was it one in Socorro?
Enjoyed the video how much did it cost you for all the parts for the kettle?

Look at the lid dampers. Should have a code underneath the rivet that indicates the mfg date.
Were did u get yur cutting board done at do u have a link
I'm sorry everyone. I hit the like button when it was at 69.
Thanks for watching 👍🏼
Where is the pickled onion recipe?
So when did you restore the kettle? Replacing parts is not restoration, it's repair. You didn't even clean the frame or at a bare minimum sand the rust just a tiny bit.
👍🤙😎🤙
Not really a restoration video
Did you expect some body filler and a paint job?
No offense. but you didn't "restore" it. You put new parts on an old grill. Yo should have sanded everything down and repainted. Now you have new parts sitting on rust and the new parts will not last long.
