I never liked the fk8 type R but as time goes on and I learn about it I am starting to appreciate it a lot …. This car is truly amazing…if anyone thinks otherwise you really need to look into detail about this car …dealership markups suck tho 😔
Lets just say, the fk8 is perfectly balanced from factory. Balance as power to grip, reliability to none reliability and maintenance cost. Modding it, you’re tinkering with these things. The suspension of the fk8 is one of the key features of the Type R, besides the engine and the Aero package.
Hidden Cons: 1: In order to install coilovers, you'd have to get damper sensor deletes, which adds onto the overall price to adjust your ride. 2: In order to tune your car, you'd also have to jailbreak your ECU, either physically or with a FlashPro, which also adds onto the overall price to tune it. 3: Lowering springs (ex. Swift) honestly feel terrible with the stock strut, and a coilover option, even the cheapest one, will run you upwards of $800-$2000.
I feel like the type r gets so much hate for no reason. It’s the only front wheel drive car over 300 hp that virtually has no torque steer. It can fit tall people without issues and three other normal sized adults. You can put luggage in the back. It handles like butter. Gets 30s for mpg when cruising. And allows you to run any fuel you want with a basic tune. What other car is that well rounded and looks so good for less than 40k?
no aftermarket coils are better than factory setup at the moment. Aftermarket wheels need minimum 45 - 60 offset to reduce torque steer to be close to factory. Front tyres wider than 265/35 will rub the fender slightly even with maximum camber (-1.7). Biggest issue is the stupid location of the turbo and inlet pipe causing overheating like a fcking oven. Of couse also the gear grind making the car not drivable.
I have 275/35/18 with an 18X10 +50 rim and they don't rub at all. I haven't even pulled out the front camber pins yet and still no rub, this is while lowered slightly on spoon springs too.
Type R doesn’t have to be modded, it’s extremely fun as a stock car. I just sold mine 1 month ago and I had a blast with it for the past 3 years. I was only on swift springs and TEs.
only thing id change is the air intake, its already the fastest civic from factory, hard to believe any non track user would mod that thing past 400 other than to burn more fuel, i have an Si myself 10th gen, i recently got it ktuned with phearable 1.5, mishimoto intercooler and CAI and its pretty quick, not the fastest car ive driven but its up there.
Why do you not talk about how wheels can effect the way the car handles. Like how OEM rims are optimized for torque steer. And if you change it from the factory spec, it greatly changes the suspension geometry and makes the car torque steer a lot more
