Get Real with Rio: Dr Nighat Arif on tearing down taboos 😮‍💨

This week on Get Real with Rio, Rio Ferdinand sits down with Dr Nighat Arif to break down the stigma around women's health.
Dr Nighat is a powerhouse, plain and simple. Emigrating from Pakistan to the UK at nine, she went on to study medicine, specialising in women's health with 17 years of experience as a GP and medical educator. Dr Nighat communicates fluently with her patients in English, Urdu and Punja and counts presenting her research to Parliament and working with the United Nations (UN) among her many achievements.
The resident doctor on BBC Breakfast, Dr Nighat has also appeared on ITV, Channel 4, hosts her own breakfast show on BBC3 Counties Radio and has written for HELLO, Good Housekeeping, Women in Medicine and British Vogue.
If you thought this one was just for the ladies, Dr Nighat is here to show you you're wrong. We all have a role in opening up the conversation, and removing the shame that shrouds menstruation, menopause and the many phases women's bodies go through in between.
In this candid conversation with Rio, Dr Nighat Arif explains why fathers need to get comfortable discussing periods with their daughters, why she wrote a book about women's health that's not just for women and how she finds purpose just by being human.
