i just used your vids to rebuild my Tecumseh 3.5 on the Tiller and OMG it started right up and ran like bear through the whole garden! Thank you so much for the detail and accuracy!!! It was spot on!!!
donyboy73, Thank you so much for so good information. I followed your instructions on a slightly different model dated 94 and it works like a charm. Again, thanks for the pain, the time you spent to share with us your know-how. This is the real Internet. Sharing working solutions with others. Cheers. Franco from Belgium
Thank you so much, trying to fix my old go cart that's been broken for 7 years and finnaly decided to try and was completely lost until this video! Thank you so much!
thanks don, you helped me out! all it was was the carb set too lean like you said :) i finally got around to working on it today because i was busy putting new piston and rings in my lawn mower! thanks for helping me i did what you said and now it runs great :)
@donyboy73 You are right, I finally found it on your #2 video somewhere between 3:50 and 4:00, sorry to bother you, but I didn't catch it until I watched several times. Thanks a bunch for posting, we were ready to scrap the motor. If I need linkage parts; are they available through you?
Your videos are great. I have a Tecumseh 3.5 horse power motor. Don't have owner manual. How much oil should go in the crank case. I have just been filling till I could see it, but would rather put the correct amount in it. Thanks.
We have the same motor and the linkages are messed up. I can tell because the throttle starts at wide open and the mechanic thought it governed down, but I can see you are adjusting the throttle and its affecting the carb without any governor action. Can you help me find a picture of how the linkages are supposed to be? I was ready to scrap the job. ..Dan Thanks, too
I have a generator with a Tecumseh engine on it and has never been run since buying it. I tried to start it once, but it did not start so I parked it for 10 years.
Donyboy; Love your videos. But I have a few questions, First, what is a governor an what does it do? Second, I have eight lawnmowers, none of them work. Because of using them I have hit rocks and other things.Smoke and oil will come out of the muffler. But they will still run, but very loud and they knot. How can I fix them or do you have a video on it. Third, I have a generator that I found an I would like to repair it. Do you have a video on this as well.
if you have hit stuff with your lawnmowers they probably have a broken flywheel key. i do have a video for this repair, go to my channel and do a search
I guess I should have been clearer. The engine is on a chipper and the muffler is close up to the hopper so hard to see how to get it off with out removing the engine, but upon close inspection I'm wondering if there is one bolt on the side which gets it off. A better question, after replacing the carburetor with a new one, is why it won't start. Any idea why it would just slowly, slowly lose power and cut off, then not appear to have any spark when trying to crank it? Thanks.
Great vid! Very helpful. Any idea why fuel is coming out of the small hole just above the idle adjusting screw on my same carb? I do think my Tecumseh is a good bit older on mini bike from the 1970s. Thnx in advance for your help.
Your float is no good. Gas is getting into the float. When that happens the carb floods and it leaks or shoots out of the little hole you just mentioned, which is called the external atmospheric vent. I had the same problem. once I changed the float it fixed the problem. if you have gas in the carb. when you poo the bowl off and pull off the float shake it near your ear. You will hear the gas in it. He did cover that in the video. But that is specifically what is wrong with your carb.
@donyboy73 In its natural state not connected, not running, etc. does the throttle spring on the carb keep the throttle at the idle position or WOT? I think our new carb is starting at WOT; any ideas why this would be? Looks like you are down on the idle screw.. If I'm missing any linkage parts do you have those? Thanks.
Hello dony boy just wondering whats the serial number because i belive i have the same exact engine for my motor bike but i cant find the number because my fuel inlet broke off and the repair man needs the serial number

@thedilsavers check the float to make sure it doesn't have gas in it. replace the needle and seat and make sure float is adjusted right

Hope you will do a video on changing the muffler on the 3.5 engine sometime.
@MrMikeinwi u can get them at a small engine shop
@monsterman21897 u could get the connector at a small engine shop or on ebay.
WOW...Great videos... Thank you for posting parts 1 and 2...
carb might be set lean(turn out the bottom screw a bit to correct) or the exhaust valve is leaking

RE: THE MUFFLER I WOULD HAVE TO SEE IT, FOR THE SPARK IT COULD BE THE ignition module
Thanks Don.

great vid, how much do you generally charge to do this job not including parts?
if you have hit stuff with your lawnmowers they probably have a broken flywheel key. i do have a video for this repair, go to my channel and do a search

@1968tecumsehman i stock actual Tecumseh Parts
Thank you!!
Very informative. Thanks!
I was wonder why you didn't remove the welch plugs when you cleaned and rebuilt the carb?
Where can you get gaskets for the bottom of these carbs? Can you use a washer instead? Can't seem to find the gaskets...their almost like paper.
i will answer it in friday's Q&A

I have got a engine just like this and I am wondering why does the muffler/exhaust glow red? do u have a video about that?
is it possible to replace the stiff "velvet" washer on top of the carb that serves as a gasket for the throttle/governor connection
where would a get the plastic housing where you hook up the fuel line to the carb
any thoughts on fixing the carb on the video I responded with?
