The Model Y would be an absolute monster for Uber/Lyft or any delivery gig app. You would have lots of space for your passengers and plenty of room for cargo with the hatchback and it’s just a better all around vehicle in general for personal driving. The model 3 just costs less, and it’s smaller but is still a great ride. I’m a Prius hatchback guy so I might be a little biased though, lol. Model Y is like a super upgraded Prius.
Charging a 2023 Tesla at a super charger was about the same price as using my 50 mpg 2012 Hybrid Prius, lol. It might have actually been more expensive.
I’m guessing that 1.3k was per week? How many hours though? And honestly the Uber quests aren’t great right now. I went back to the Uber/Lyft with the Prius for now until things get better for Uber.
Yes the Teslas GPS detects the nearest super charger and you can navigate to it with a few clicks. For non Tesla chargers you need an app called PlugShare but it’s fairly easy to use as well. @ericramirez6146
I don't accept every ride, but sometimes there are multiple days in a row where I'll accept every ride because I'm in need of getting my acceptance and cancellation rate better. For majority of my shifts I'm using area preference, destination and purposely staging myself in areas that have a high probability of surging and/or short rides. When your cancellation and acceptance rate start to get ugly then you can't cherry pick or else you'll lose your Uber Pro rewards which are very valuable.
You shown uber hours which are whe you had ride but how many hours did you work total which are looking for ride and driving without ride? That will be your hourly pay.
The hours in these screen shots are accurate. Those are my “online hours”. This counts waiting for requests, driving in between rides, driving to the passenger and driving with the passenger. The hourly pay is very accurate in this video. Exactly $30 per hour.
Hertz is the most expensive way to use a Tesla for rideshare while charging at superchargers is THE most expensive way to fuel the vehicle. Buy the car, not forgetting the $7500 federal tax credits and local government incentives. Install a 7kw home charger and charge overnight on off peak now cost electricity. Buy solar panels and home battery whit your saving on supercharging.
All good points if you have the money to own a house with a garage and can afford to buy a brand new Tesla(the $7,500 rebate only applies to brand new Tesla). The Hertz/Uber program that I tested here is optimized for 2 types of people. 1. An Uber driver who is currently renting an apartment who can’t afford to buy a good car at the moment but wants to drive in a nice Tesla full time in the range of 40-80 hour work weeks. The more hours you put in the more worth it is. I made $30 per hour for 6 weeks straight (after paying all my fees) without putting a single mile on my personal vehicle. To many people that is good money and beats working a lot of other jobs where you can’t make your own schedule. 2. The other type of person who this is for is simply an Uber driver who wants to test out a Tesla before buying one and get paid for that test run in the process. Test driving a car for a day or 2 is not bad. But imagine being able to test drive a car for a month or as long as you want while getting paid $30+ per hour doing it. Of course buying one and charging it in your garage is going to be way better overall but not everyone has $40K+ lying around or the capacity to finance such a vehicle for an extended period of time and not everyone has a garage.
I rarely have to cherry pick. After you hit platinum you get 2 hours of area preference and combined with 2 destination filters that’s about 4 hours of getting rides in the area that you want. I’ll also constantly position myself in busy areas and surges. If I’m doing a long shift and run out of tools then I’ll cherry pick but I’ll try to make sure not to go below 85% acceptance rate and 4% cancellation rate.
No, I waived their insurance and used my credit card insurance for free instead. I’m honestly not sure if that would have worked though because I forgot to call my credit card company and ask if they cover Rideshare rentals. I just got lucky and didn’t get into any accidents in the 6 weeks that I rented it. I’ll definitely look into this deeper the next time I rent.
What was the BS charge? I only had 1 issue but it was mostly my fault. They gave me a late fee for returning it an hour late on the day that I was scheduled to return it. However, I talked to the manager and she said she'll give that back to me in the form of a discount if I rent again in the future.
What charge though? I just got charged $364 every week as stated in the contract. Nothing sneaky. I would have called them out and talked about it in this vid if I got charged anything extra. I’m sorry they burned you but was there at least a label to the random charge and did you ever talk to a manager about it? Also, if you use the Tesla supercharger it gets added to your bill from hertz. I thought they were charging me extra until I figured that out.
A full charge means it gets around 29 miles per gallon (if you convert that to the current cost for a charge to what a gallon of gas costs, which is around $3.25 where I live)
It’s probably something like that. That’s why a hybrid is better like a Prius or Honda CRV hybrid unless you have your own charging station at home then maybe an EV is better.
I would have to agree with you because 1. The charge time will eat into your drive time unless you have long range battery and have a good charger at home. 2. When that EV battery goes out, there goes $10-15K of your profits out the window. Full EV is not quite there yet for a full time driver. They need to increase charging speed and have super chargers available just as much as gas stations are available. Until that day comes, hybrids will almost always be a better choice.
A long range model Y can get up to 330 miles and a model S can do 400 miles on 1 charge. Model Y would be a solid Rideshare vehicle. It’s like a bigger, nicer Prius with more gadgets/tech.
Charge time was always random based on how busy I was. I always found something productive to do while charging like sleeping, shopping, working out, emails, etc. Tips are a big part of rideshare. I always disclose it when I bring up my total earnings. That’s like asking a waiter how much he makes but skip the cash tips. That doesn’t make sense.
About $364. I heard there’s no security deposit anymore and I heard the rate is even cheaper than what I was paying but the Teslas are about 1 year old now. Still a great program if you have no car or an old car! @JohnDoe-fs6lz
No, had to return it because I had weird background check issues that knocked me out for 3 months(going to make a video about this soon) But long story short, I’m back and the Lyft quest are good but the Uber quests are trash now so I’m waiting for them to get better before I rent again. Meanwhile a buddy of mine is averaging $2k per week with his Tesla rental on just 65 hours even with trash quests.
@TheRideshareCoach thats not bad. Uber wouldn't be losing drivers if they gave unthose 100$ quests at the end of the week. Atleast. Remember when I was doing uner quests were like 800 lol after covid of course. U can't use the tesla for lyft huh?
$800 quests are wild. Unfortunately I didn’t drive for most of pandemic because I went back to college with the Uber/ASU scholarship. And yeah you can’t do Lyft with the Tesla if you rent it through Uber/Hertz. I haven’t tested any other gig apps or platforms outside of those 2 though. Maybe jobs like DoorDash would work 🤔 now I’m wondering.
It’s what I use for business conversations. Haha. It’s better for communicating compared to UA-cam comments. You can email me too, nephijames808@gmail.com. Go ahead and ask me any question you have there. If not, I can try to answer it my best here.
Hey I experienced accidents with my rental tesla. First time wasn’t my fault, second time it was my fault. I wasn’t allowed to renew, it was almost a year ago. You think I can go back to rent a Tesla again?
I’m sorry to hear about those 2 accidents. Would you mind sharing your story(whatever you are comfortable with) so that myself and others can learn the insurance process? I don’t have experience with accidents so I wouldn’t know for sure but I would just give it a try and if you can’t get back in then I would suggest renting a vehicle through Lyft. I’m not sure if they have Teslas but you should be able to get a nice Camry or something similar.
@TheRideshareCoach thank you for the response. Not to be repetitive in my question, but let's say for argument sake I don't own a personal vehicle and want to do ride share on both platforms. And I rent a vehicle from any of the company's Avis, Hertz, etc what is the difference when I rent through Uber the Tesla from Hertz and not be able to do Lyft aswell
When you rent the Tesla through Uber they give you the special $364 per week rate. In order to even get started you need an Uber account with a 4.85 star rating or higher and have completed 200 Uber rides first. Then at Hertz the employees link the Tesla to your Uber account and then finally you are able to go online with it. After I had my Tesla all setup with Uber I called Lyft and asked them if I could use it for Lyft and they said no.@@nickwhitestone4237
Cost of living here is the most expensive in the nation. I drove a Prius and did a lot of short trips in town to take advantage of quest bonuses, surges, and boosts. I documented the entire 8 weeks where I made $42 per hour. The link to the 8 video playlist is here if you want to check it out: ua-cam.com/video/V5rSn-ZlVeU/v-deo.html
Hey, I would have for sure... but my home was rented and I wasn't allowed to set up any kind of home charger. One day if I can save up enough I would like to own my own home and my own Tesla with a charging station. I'm going to have to hustle hardcore for that to happen...
What’s up with those insane promotions $300-$500 a week? Myself and many other drivers are getting no promotions, at at the most $50 a week in promotions. Is it your market? Do you get that every single week throughout the year?
Those were the average “quest bonus” offered at the time for completing a certain number of trips during the week or weekend. Also, the $1 extra per ride for using a 100% EV was added into that promotions total. Currently I’m getting similar offers from Lyft but like you said only about $50-$70 quest offers from Uber. Because of that, I have returned the Tesla and I’m back to doing Uber/Lyft in my Prius until Uber starts offering better quests again. Have you already started working for Lyft? And are you currently renting a Tesla for Uber?
@@TheRideshareCoach oh okay, so your earnings would be substantially less without those quests. I’ll never rent any car for rideshare, it’s a complete ripoff. I do Uber/Lyft with my own 2019 Prius. Driving and living in Hawaii seems like it would be fun, besides the insane cost of living
I respect that but think about it this way. If you do 100 trips per week thats already-$100 off of the $364 with the EV rides. Also the comfort rides/premiere rides pay will put a dent into that cost. Compared to your Prius it’s only a couple hundred bucks to have a Tesla model 3 and you’re not beating up your personal vehicle and they take care of the maintenance. With all that being said I’m a Prius guy so I get it. I’m thinking about getting a hybrid rav 4 or Honda crv as my next ride though
@@TheRideshareCoach I get that but I’d still never rent a car for a Uber, I’d just buy a Tesla if I wanted to drive it and still get all those perks, btw premier is only available in certain cities, we don’t have it here in Nashville. In terms of depreciation and vehicle costs, you have to consider that the rental companies are only renting those cars because they make a profit, so the cost to run those vehicles is less than what the person renting it is paying, therefore the person renting it is paying more than if they just bought the car themselves.
All good points. I think I rather buy a Tesla and own it too. However not everyone has a garage and setting up a charging station is the only way to own 1 in my opinion. Also the hertz/uber program is a great way to do a long thorough test drive of the Tesla to see if you really like it while making money at the same time.
Tesla model 3 qualifies for premiere and comfort rides and you get an extra $1 per ride for it being a full EV. That’s a whole lot of extra money on top of the style.
Show me an article saying you replace a Tesla battery with a brand new one for $5k. I don’t believe it. A Prius hybrid battery cost $5K to replace. We’re talking about a Tesla here. The battery pretty much IS the car. @jonathanvivanco3795
Uber has a partnership with Hertz to get their drivers special rental rates. I called Lyft to see if I could use it with them and they said no. You have to go through Lyfts own rental plan to rent a car for Lyft. Doesn’t matter if you have 2 phones. You still have to register your vehicle with the Lyft app so that your passengers see which car you are driving with. If the app says Toyota Prius as my car registered and I show up in a Tesla, that is a security issue and can cause confusion and if a passenger reports you then there goes your job.
@@TheRideshareCoach Ok makes sense....So If I do the Tesla hertz deal, how will The app know to update the Tesla to show up? Now it shows my Honda CRV. Does Hertz or Uber uopdate the Tesla to your app for you?
Yes, Hertz & Uber work together to update your app. You will be able to have multiple cars in your app and switch back and forth whenever you choose to do so. There were a couple of nights where I drove the Tesla and my Prius both in the same night for Uber.
@@TheRideshareCoach Ok thanks cause when you read about the opportunity, it leaves you wondering?? This isn't my car??How does it get into my app so i can choose the Tesla to drive? Thanks!
Yeah no worries. It's pretty simple to switch back and forth too. It's important that you have the Tesla selected so that you can get incoming Premiere and Comfort rides and get the $1 extra per ride promo for driving a full EV promo. I might add a little screen recording/demo of all of that if I make another Tesla/Uber video.
I never paid for the Hertz insurance the whole time. I just waived it and put it on my credit cards insurance for free. However, I forgot to call Mission Lane to ask if they cover rideshare driving so I’ll do that when I have time and see what they say and get back to you. Other than that I’m just very lucky that I didn’t get into any accidents.
3:37 You're paying $30 for a full charge? Sheesh Where do you live? I pay no more than $10-14 for a full battery. Not to mention in California during peak hours.
Nah, the Prius was cheaper. I was getting 400+ miles on $40-$50 dollars where the Tesla was about 210 miles for $30. Of course if you ever get free charging or charge at home for cheap you will beat the Prius's 50 MPG especially if you live in a city with high gas prices. Average gas prices was about $4.20 at Costco when I did my Prius experiment.@@watchthis560

I was probably making too much money for the sytem to properly compute it!! LOL, just kidding 😂. I got paid on time but sometimes the information in the app gets delayed for both Uber and Lyft. As long as I get paid the right amount it's all good! @CapitanosMediaLLC
There’s a 1 time security deposit that you have to pay of $200. You are supposed to get it back with 1-2 business days after returning the vehicle. That was really the only part of the process that I didn’t like. Also if you are late to return it even by 1 hour you will get a $70 late fee.
That’s over $66K if you did it for a year and you get a new Tesla to drive around for your personal use… I didn’t even go super hard in the 6 weeks. I could have made way more. Not everyone is willing to drive for a Uber for $30 per hour though. I am and I just teach what I know.
You guys are paying $364 a week for a Tesla? Ok, not going to call you a sucker for paying upwards of $1400 a month for a Tesla because probably no one has ever told you buying one is half that price.
Depreciation and maintenance costs exist though. Some people just want to test drive a Tesla for a month and get paid while doing it. You can return it whenever you want. If you buy a Tesla you are locked into a $40K bill and if you change your mind about it you have to sell the car for much less than you bought it for. Also, not everyone can qualify for a good interest rate. Some people get turned down entirely if their credit is bad. This program is for people want a nice car to do a Uber with temporarily. People have been renting cars to do Uber for years. The Tesla is just a little more expensive than the basic cars but you make more $$$ driving it so it’s a no brainer rental.
This is dumb...so you're paying 346$ a week and driving 80 hours on top of that...SOUNDS FOOLISH.....if you're going to drive 80 hours a week then go get 2 jobs and work 80 hours without paying 346....just get 2 full time jobs and keep the 346 in your pocket.
@CapitanosMediaLLC LOL, what if you only have $500 in the bank and your old beater just broke down? This program is EXCELLENT for some people. And 2 full time jobs?! Which jobs are you thinking of? Mcdonalds and Burger King?! Have you ever held down 2 full times jobs before where you have to clock in and out? That's 80 hours of SCHEDULED work and you'll be shooting yourself in the foot because you are wiping out any chances of getting valuable OVERTIME pay by splitting it up into 2 jobs. I rather just get 1 really good full time job and drive Uber/Lyft on the side if I have to. I'd rather own a hybrid yes, but if I was in a bad spot I would definitely go for Tesla/Hertz program as long as I can afford the first week rental of $346.
How you gonna call yourself a ride share coach when your math is way off. This isn't even remotely profitable or worth it from a business perspective. Self proclaimed Rideshare coach.

I’m a Prius hatchback guy so I might be a little biased though, lol. Model Y is like a super upgraded Prius.
@@TheRideshareCoach and im SOLD ! thank you lol
If you get a chance come back here and let us know how you like it :)
Good comparison
Thanks. I’m glad it was useful for you. :)
Where are you located? Must be a a big city. I live in Indiana making less than
I work in a very small city on a very small island of Oahu, HI. Lots of tourists and 1 million people live here though. You make less than what?
Do you have any comparisons on gas vs electric?
Charging a 2023 Tesla at a super charger was about the same price as using my 50 mpg 2012 Hybrid Prius, lol. It might have actually been more expensive.
U actually making good money not like me was barely making 1.3k in Fort Lauderdale
I’m guessing that 1.3k was per week? How many hours though?
And honestly the Uber quests aren’t great right now. I went back to the Uber/Lyft with the Prius for now until things get better for Uber.
Do tesla show where the nearest charging station are?
Yes the Teslas GPS detects the nearest super charger and you can navigate to it with a few clicks. For non Tesla chargers you need an app called PlugShare but it’s fairly easy to use as well. @ericramirez6146
Do you accept every ride? or do you cherry pick?
I don't accept every ride, but sometimes there are multiple days in a row where I'll accept every ride because I'm in need of getting my acceptance and cancellation rate better. For majority of my shifts I'm using area preference, destination and purposely staging myself in areas that have a high probability of surging and/or short rides. When your cancellation and acceptance rate start to get ugly then you can't cherry pick or else you'll lose your Uber Pro rewards which are very valuable.
What? I'm paying $370 for a camry through Avis. Should I switch to Hertz then?
Definitely switch. You'd be paying less for a better car. That's a no brainer and the Camry doesn't qualify for premiere and EV rides like the Tesla.
Hello if I rent the car through my Uber account. Is my brother able to drive the car on his Uber account as well ?
It should be fine as long as both of you are on the insurance and your brother fulfills the requirements that I mentioned in the video.
Are you taking every ride or do you cherry pick ?
I rarely have to cherry pick. After you hit platinum you get 2 hours of area preference and combined with 2 destination filters that’s about 4 hours of getting rides in the area that you want. I’ll also constantly position myself in busy areas and surges. If I’m doing a long shift and run out of tools then I’ll cherry pick but I’ll try to make sure not to go below 85% acceptance rate and 4% cancellation rate.
Do you buy the $26/day insurance too?
No, I waived their insurance and used my credit card insurance for free instead. I’m honestly not sure if that would have worked though because I forgot to call my credit card company and ask if they cover Rideshare rentals. I just got lucky and didn’t get into any accidents in the 6 weeks that I rented it. I’ll definitely look into this deeper the next time I rent.
Can you the Uber telsa rental to drive with Lyft if you purchase the personal insurance through hertZ?
You can't use the Uber Tesla rental for Lyft. I called Lyft driver support and they said no.@@yourdaddysmellsbad
When you rent a Tesla from Hertz do you get a charger also cause I have a level 2 charging outlet at my house
It comes with a standard wall charger and a type 2 cable.
I would go with the prius and keep all the money. Didn't hertz charge you some bs charge like they did to me ?
What was the BS charge? I only had 1 issue but it was mostly my fault. They gave me a late fee for returning it an hour late on the day that I was scheduled to return it. However, I talked to the manager and she said she'll give that back to me in the form of a discount if I rent again in the future.
@@TheRideshareCoach they don't really explain you just see charge pop up on your cards from hertz
I thought they were charging me extra until I figured that out.
on what state is this ?? ty
I think this works in any state that has Hertz. Call Uber to double check. I filmed this video in Hawaii.
@@TheRideshareCoach If you are doing it full-time, an EV is never the better option.
@@TheRideshareCoach When EVs get around 350-400 miles on a full charge, they will be more feasible for a full time Uber driver to use.
A long range model Y can get up to 330 miles and a model S can do 400 miles on 1 charge.
Model Y would be a solid Rideshare vehicle. It’s like a bigger, nicer Prius with more gadgets/tech.
yeah but where do you live? And how much down time did you have getting it charged? Skip the cash tips. Those are aside from what Uber offers.
That doesn’t make sense.
how does one get premier rides
You just need to get a car that qualifies for premier rides such as the 2023 Tesla Model 3 in this video.
How much do I need upfront
About $364. I heard there’s no security deposit anymore and I heard the rate is even cheaper than what I was paying but the Teslas are about 1 year old now. Still a great program if you have no car or an old car! @JohnDoe-fs6lz
Did u ever do the 80 hrs ?
No, had to return it because I had weird background check issues that knocked me out for 3 months(going to make a video about this soon)
But long story short, I’m back and the Lyft quest are good but the Uber quests are trash now so I’m waiting for them to get better before I rent again.
What market are you in ?
Honolulu, HI. Which one are you in?
Why can’t you use it for Lyft?
Because the hertz/tesla program is just for Uber drivers and Lyft has their own rental program @kamerongregory
So it’s the same if there were no Tesla rental payment
I’m not sure what you mean. The Tesla rental payment is $364 per week.
Hey brother, is possibly to help find a decent driver for the Uber fleet?
Hey I'm not sure what you mean. Do you want me to find a driver for you?
Yes that could work, I am in Denver Colorado
Do you use instagram?
No I don’t, I don’t really do social media
It’s what I use for business conversations. Haha. It’s better for communicating compared to UA-cam comments. You can email me too, nephijames808@gmail.com. Go ahead and ask me any question you have there. If not, I can try to answer it my best here.
How many mile / week ?
Hi,
I was averaging 46 miles per week and netting around $1400 every week. I explain all of that in the video with screen shots.
Have you tried Lyft? They also have rental program
I’ve been doing Lyft for 6 years in my owned Prius but I’ve never rented a vehicle to use for Lyft. Only the Tesla for Uber in this video.
Can I ask you why can't you also do Lyft when renting the Tesla
It’s because Lyft has their own rental program and they want you to go through them to rent a car for Lyft. I’m hoping they change this in the future.
I was wondering how you were getting 42$ a hour not using a XL vehicle but then I realized your in Hawaii so cost of living must be inflated there
Cost of living here is the most expensive in the nation.
Why don’t u get a Tesla home charger
You paying for the riders to ride in style. I need to money not the experience lol ❤
Tesla model 3 qualifies for premiere and comfort rides and you get an extra $1 per ride for it being a full EV. That’s a whole lot of extra money on top of the style.
renting a Tesla makes more sense because when these cars are out of warranty they are ridiculously expensive to fix.
Yeah especially the battery replacement. It’s $10k- $20K+depending on which model you have.
ouch!
Super ouchie. I wouldn’t want to deal with that but maybe people will be able to fix them for cheaper as time goes by.
@@TheRideshareCoach that’s when the tesla barely came out! Now in days you can replace it for about 5k which is not bad at all…
Show me an article saying you replace a Tesla battery with a brand new one for $5k.
I don’t believe it.
A Prius hybrid battery cost $5K to replace.
We’re talking about a Tesla here. The battery pretty much IS the car. @jonathanvivanco3795
Why couldn't you drive LYFT also with the TESLA? I have 2 phones..... I could run UBER on 1 and LYFT on the other? How would they know?
Is there Tesla rental for lyft. What market you in
As of today, the Tesla rental only works with Uber. I'm in Honolulu, HI.
@@TheRideshareCoach thanks my favorite place Waikiki

Wow Tesla can be rented, that's awesome!
Yes! It's no surprise they can be rented, but to be able to be rented and used for Uber driving for only $364 per week is the special part!
Do you recommend the extra insurance on the Tesla? It's costing me $540 a month! I'm thinking of dropping
I never paid for the Hertz insurance the whole time. I just waived it and put it on my credit cards insurance for free.
However, I forgot to call Mission Lane to ask if they cover rideshare driving so I’ll do that when I have time and see what they say and get back to you.
Other than that I’m just very lucky that I didn’t get into any accidents.
are there rental companies that let you do uber and lyft?
Not that I know of. You have to go with the rental company that Uber or Lyft provides and use that vehicle just for that Rideshare platform.
3:37 You're paying $30 for a full charge? Sheesh Where do you live? I pay no more than $10-14 for a full battery. Not to mention in California during peak hours.
That’s with the Tesla super charger charging from 1% to 100% in Hawaii peak hours. It takes about 1 hour.
@@TheRideshareCoach Oh wow. Well either way that's maybe $5-10 cheaper than your Prius. From empty of course
Notice how Uber was slowing down his weekly earnings.
I was probably making too much money for the sytem to properly compute it!! LOL, just kidding 😂. I got paid on time but sometimes the information in the app gets delayed for both Uber and Lyft. As long as I get paid the right amount it's all good! @CapitanosMediaLLC
Am confused how does it take 10 hrs for a full charge at a supercharger it only takes me 30 to 40 mins depending on your charge when you get there
I said 10 hours for a free charger.
Isn’t there a $200 weekly security deposit needed?
There’s a 1 time security deposit that you have to pay of $200. You are supposed to get it back with 1-2 business days after returning the vehicle. That was really the only part of the process that I didn’t like. Also if you are late to return it even by 1 hour you will get a $70 late fee.
Mahalos for the info. Gonna try your experiment and see how it goes.

Also you’re in Hawaii so probably cost more for Uber there
Costs more to order an Uber or to drive for Uber?
Also it depends which state we’re comparing Hawaii to. Every market is different.
I can’t understand
Why don’t you ask some questions about the things you don’t understand so that I can help you here?
8300 for 6 weeks is $1383. That is not worth it.
That’s over $66K if you did it for a year and you get a new Tesla to drive around for your personal use…
I didn’t even go super hard in the 6 weeks.
