These help so much!! I’m just getting stared with math rock and I’ve only been playing normal guitar for a year and a half but luckily I’m a especially quick learner. These have made me appreciate math rock much more and practicing these for about 15-20 minutes each song has made me improve in not just math rock and Midwest emo but my regular guitar playing as well! FCPREMIX is my favorite as it had the most difficulty to master but I used the energy of tryhard sweating to fuel my strength and somehow learned it!!
I hate colored strings. they don’t sound as good as regular nylon, the color often wares off, they feel bad, quality is usually sub-par and in my opinion they don’t really look good because they don’t stand out enough.
Hmmm Mountains, sounds like I’ve heard them before... maybe like you’ve promoted them before... because it’s your band... Jkjk all in good fun, great album nevertheless (bought it in fact!)
Yup. I would usually play it hybrid picked. Love that technique. However, because this video is aimed at those less adept at guitar I thought I'd keep it all pick.
i just wanted to say thank you so much for making these videos so easy to follow! i don’t know anything about guitars but almost nailing the american football riff is really encouraging for me and i can’t wait to play the other songs you featured in the video!!
There´s a tiny error in the fall of troy riff. The last note is harmonic on 7 fret but tablature says 5. Great content, btw!! Thank you for taking the time to make this tutorials.
simple does not equate to bad i’ve had to realize that recently in my playing, for example one of my favorite bands Turnover is very simple in their playing but it’s so effective
The harmonics in FCPREMIX say 5 but you play at 7!! Just something that threw me off when trying to follow you.. thanks for putting this together and fun riffs to learn!!
The first one and the fifth one are such a great deal. Took me one hour and a half to make that TMP riff sound acceptable. I think I'm gonna get your book for this christmas. I don't have too many resources but I think that someday I'll finally make it at Math Rock :D
Hey, I really liked this! Thanks! One thing i'd love to see is maybe a more in depth breakdown of these or some other well known riffs in terms of the harmonic structure.
@@LetsTalkAboutMathRock Ohhhhh thats really cool. fcpremix sounds way harder than it actually is. Id have never thought that. Its so much fun playing if you adjust the speed of your delay according to your own speed. THANKS!!!!
Steve, new subscriber, just wanted to say I think the opening to Eyesore by Women also isn't too bad. They were more post-punk than true math rock, but they have a couple of mathy tunes.
Love this. You should check out sleepy dog if u haven’t. U could Play some of his songs like space cadet or something else but he does a lot of great work.
I love listening to math rock but seeing math and beginner in the same sentence gave me a surprise. Then seeing tera melos madr me burst lmao Can't wait to try struggle to learn these. 😂
I love the get up kids. I did a video ages ago about chords in emo and I mention them quite a bit as one of my main influences. ua-cam.com/video/XYihJfn7Njo/v-deo.html
Is there a specific way of picking the F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X. riff? Because I play it mostly using economy picking which results in almost a sweep-like motion and is much different than the picking used in the video and I'd also say that it sounds more like the original version.
Hey Steve, great video! Do you have any tips for beginners playing bass? I love the style and technique of math rock, especially the tapping, but I sometimes feel limited with just 4 strings.

It was Never Meant to be old
This is a tough genre if these are classified as beginner 😂
Yeah... there are some easier ones out there but most of these are well known^^
try any other Tiny Moving Parts song and you'll see how Medicine is for the beginners HAHA
It is very complicated
I’m still in this bitch tho
In my opinion, it's not hard it just uses unconventional techniques that are less common for beginners in guitar.
Never meant is seriously the most beautiful thing I've ever heard
Ive been practicing math rock for the last few months..... Why am I just now finding this channel after ive already brute forced my way into learning a bunch of CHON songs

always focused by tiny moving parts also very easy one with tapping
Nice. Great suggestion, though I recall having some trouble with that one when I first learnt it! Haha
It's easy-ish if you're not new to the playing style
but it's really fun tbh
@@plsno420 I agree that if you have a bit of a grasp on tapping then it's pretty easy to learn

Teles are the superior guitar
Vector OH YEAH - yea not a big fan of telecasters. But Tecastors, I really dig
I didn't even notice that...

Maybe the intro part to Fluffy by CHON??
Gabe theres a yt tutorial up on that !!
Hey, man, another great beginner math rock riff could be Breadcrumb Trail by Slint!
Also, props to you for incluiding The Fall of Troy.
Yes! I love that album. I was thinking of redoing this video as some of them are a little too challenging for a beginner I think.

Crocodile from TTNG isn't too bad to play either! Same tuning as Never Meant

Protip: that Tera Melos lick is even easier to play with hybrid picking, which is always a great technique to incorporate into your playing anyway. ;)
If you don't play with just your fingers in math rock you should definitely figure out hybrid picking
Yup. I would usually play it hybrid picked. Love that technique. However, because this video is aimed at those less adept at guitar I thought I'd keep it all pick.
FCP, Fire back and never meant are so fun to play

Never expected to Fall Of Troy on this tbh, gotta have to try and play it finally whew

Little disappointed he didn’t use an SG for FCPREMIX
fun fact he had one but he sold it to buy that telly lmao
i'm more disappointed that he left out several notes
Amazing as always! Check out a now defunct band from Australia named Staying at Home, brilliant math rock from down under
