Little did I know that my middle school obsession with The Fall of Troy would lead to my lifetime obsession with math rock, happy to see them on here! Sleepy Dog too!
I always loved that specific blue tele, i'm a boring white, natural or black guitar person but I would totally love a jazzmaster or tele in that colour
God Steve, I haven't been back to your channel for a few years but I remember asking and talking about guitar through comments and you gave me lots of advice and I always tell people you were the one to teach me how to play love your band, thanks for everything friend. I recommend your channel anytime guitar is mentioned within earshot it seems. Cheers
I was always way more into the type of riffs that Tera Melos, TFoT, MMISL etc would write, but this genre has been my favorite for over 15 years now and I don't see that stopping any time soon. The variety is just incredible.
I love Standards and CHON, and the Acoustic ones from TTNG I can't get enough of the riffs :D I hope when I Practice enough I come to a level to be good enough to play Math Rock as well :9
@@LetsTalkAboutMathRock glad to be on board! I felt musically stuck and uninspired for such a long time, it's good to feel some fresh wind in my sails~

have to say that u know a band in Taiwan called mojar body bear?Actually quite difficult from those Asian kind like toe or htcott.their mathy ideas are unbelievable
Having been watching ur tutorials on another platform for 1year+,appreciating Friends since its released. The most charming math rock player I'd ever seen.Hope UR doing well!(BTW Incandescent riff s been a great meme here cuz its so interesting and impressive) :)
You say the band who is the most chaotic?I still guess floral just wrote those songs while drinking a lot cuz their riffs cant be imagined by creature on earth
Can't remember exactly but was one of the in-between strat positions (would need to check the video) with a fender style amp with a little bit of gain 👍
Much respect. Never thought of seeing some kind of cover of the band colossal. I think of those guys, human jackson represents more the math rock genre I think. Congrats and great job. P. S: Tangled hair is my favorite band ever and never saw someone playing one of their songs.
Small correction (no offense Steve!) The riff labeled as Heatwave by Gulfer 4:20 is actually Nature Kids by the same. Took me WAY too long to find the actual song. 😂
Hey Steve, I see you got multiple courses and a Patreon. Is the $100 course the one to get or is subbing as a Patreon good enough? Wanted to learn some of this stuff and apply it to my playing etc. thanks.
Hello! Thanks for the question. The courses focus on solving narrow problems and in the patreon you'll find extra resources to help you out with learning math rock so that might be a better place to start. Im currently working on making it easier to have a direct path to learning through patreon, but for now I've decided content categories in the collections tab. Hope that helps, and thanks for the support!
I think he has some tone tutorials on his channel tbh man Whatever amp sim you use should have something you can replicate into a similar kinda sound (I think it’s his how to sound like _ series)
A step-by-step system for beginner's to master the essentials of math rock chords, chord progressions, and strumming patterns 👉 bit.ly/4cTncst
My toxic trait is thinking that I can play at least 10 of these riffs flawlessly
this is why steve is goated
Little did I know that my middle school obsession with The Fall of Troy would lead to my lifetime obsession with math rock, happy to see them on here! Sleepy Dog too!
I think it will be interesting if you do one specifically for Japanese Math Rock
hard to say cuz barrier between Western math and Eastern math still exists
for sure! that would be cool
Yes g!
Oh the one with cat on cover drawing? The more you enlarge that cat looks evil. Crosseyed

ugh that yvette young signature ibanez in slime green made me feel some kinda way
We definitely need some Hella riffs in part 2
just need to wrap my brain around them first 😂

The mountains riff at 1:15 reminds me a little of the fall of troy at 9:00

You tried alpha male tea party? I recommend happy as larry, larry is dead. Banger of a riff. Also check out alarmist if you dont already know them
pls make this songlist a playlist on Spotify 😢
Helll yeah steve
Why do you usually play telecasters? Are their tones more suitables for math rock?
this is such a goldmine! also, what mic(s) did you use to record the acoustic section starting at 11:15? it sounds beautiful.
THANKS! please put the tuning of each one💌
i think I did in the description 👍
awsome dude

‘I just got this misguided melody goin’ by fall of Troy , deliberately sounds like no big deal.
