Usually, but less people likely to buy it means they need a higher price to get the same amount of money. They are operating in a niche and can charge much higher prices than otherwise.
If you think 400 is that overpriced for a unique recnetly released effective niche keyboard, then I take it you have never had to deal with buying things made for peole with disabilities... Brand new unique designed products are always way more costly, add in that the deisgned is not gonna appeal to most people, the price goes up even more. High end software for disabled software for diasbled ppl can cost hundreds or more too. This deisgn seems like it would make it invaluble for ppl with partcular disabiltied, making it so they can type as fast or faster than the avg person In fact I owuld be surprised if an avg person ends up tpying faster with this than with a nroaml keyboard. If youve never had to deal with not being able to use the products made for Jow Blow, then you dont know how disabled persons (such as myself) are just fucking GRATEFUL to have ANYTHING they can work with, nd unless its semthing stupid like maybe if this keyboard 2k, we are happy to pay bc we know hoiw the fucking market works SMH
Yeah. I'm autistic and this thing just boggles my mind. Granted I'd have to try to be sure but I see no point as I've never had any problems using a standard QWERTY keyboard. Though saying that, autism is a spectrum and if this works for someone else, that's all that matters.
If those boob pads are replaceable with foot pads, then it might find a bigger market with amputees with no hands and even in mine. My feet can somehow trip in flat grounds, this might be the training it needs.
When developing the computer mouse Xerox found that test subjects actually had greater acuity with a foot pedal based controller. It was inspired by the ease at which people control the functions of an automobile with their feet. Having said that I was thinking foot pedals might provide an alternate way to control the mouse functions, or sticky keys to allow holding a key down, while allowing the hand pads to control the basic key selection functions.
What about making it with two joysticks one on each or for navigating the page with one and moving your mouse with the other and one of the orbs having clickers for the left and right mouse buttons
They could easily convert one of the handle things to a mouse, and have side buttons for reloading, crouching, switching modes, etc, and have the right side for looking, and left side for moving. They could even make the mouse movable for left handed users.
Reimon There are many different types of keys... That is a keyboard. Just like a smartphone doesnt have physical keys or a piano doesnt have numbered keys. it still is a keyboard.
Game compatibility could be improved with a "Gamepad mode" Where the orbs act as analog sticks, but that wouldn't let you fire/jump/reload/etc, you'd need to include a number of buttons; 4 on each hand would probably be sufficient but would defeat the purpose of this product being accessible to people with finger dexterity issues.
The past tense of the verb pay is paid for the majority of its senses. In fact, paid is sometimes used even for the nautical meanings of pay. But you can’t use payed for the non-nautical senses of pay. So, you can say: I paid my debt in full. He payed the deck with tar. She paid out the rope. But you can’t say: I payed my debt in full. Source: www.grammarly.com/blog/paid-payed/
You could be missing both hands and this will still suit your needs, as it's prosthetic friendly. If you're missing both arms... well, that's a different story.
Crippling arthritis, missing fingers/hands or those that use full limb prosthetics, muscle paralysis in the hands and fingers, certain types of autism that register hand movement better than finger movement, mild to moderate parkinson's disease, brain injuries that mess with motor control, etc. Could potentially make it easier to learn for partially to fully blind people combined with voice controls since hand position is easier to learn than finger position, and you can't lose your place as easily.

It reminds me of typing on a Steam Controller, but more analog. I like it, hopefully it does a lot of good for folks who need it and get more refined and viable over time.
Workplaces as well, under threat of reasonable accommodation lawsuits, would provide this for someone who really needs it. Niche market, but at these prices, you would only need to sell limited amounts to reap profits.
This keyboard is actually really cool. I can see how the more universal design might not appear to people with no issues typing on a standard keyboard, but it actually solves many issues for people that cannot. I think it's a step forward for computers being easier to use for all. And if a standard keyboard doesn't work for you, then the $400 pricetag is totally worth the added functionality over voice typing.
One question... why not include mouse buttons in the board? I mean the handthings already look like mice, so why not include mouse buttons in there... sure they shouldn't be easy to press to minimize struggle with wrong mouse clicks... But wouldn't that be cool??? sry am from germany
The only time you said something wrong was telling us that you were from Germany. If you didn’t say that then your whole sentence would be fine. Plus, why are you sorry that you’re from Germany?
I have one of these (got used mostly out of curiosity but ended up having to use it for a week as an 'emergency keyboard' when my old one failed) The biggest issue I had is whenever you had a combination where both domes slide in the same direction the entire keyboard tends to slip (which you can see happening in this video). If you velcro down the keyboard that should fix that issue. I had another issue where one particular chord was very similar to a function key that clears out a text entry box. -- Annoying when you type out some long response and *oop* it gets nuked due to an errant dome shift. You're never going to get any speed out of this and I can't see gaming with it at all -- however if you have limited mobility or are in an environment where you have to wear heavy gloves (or hulk hands) a keyboard like this could be handy. I'm a bit disappointed mine didn't come in a tube with rubber ducks.. just a normal box.
Next, why don't we just get rid of the keyboard, and we can just get a single button, and depending on how many times you click, you get a letter? Convenient, huh?
The big problem of this keyboard is the weight as mentioned and shown in the video. For a device that requires to move two giant dome-shaped joysticks placed on a flat surface, this requires much weight and good rubber feet grip to keep it in position. For $400, that is rather unacceptable oversight. Good idea for ergonomics and for some people with needs that will find this more suitable and better than traditional keyboards. They really have to address the weight, grip, added joystick for arrow keys, anti-sweat material on domes, and more affordable price tag.
For the price of $400 yeah I think so, which will be more of poweruser ergonomic "keyboard". Actually, they can put 2 buttons for each domes for mouse for either left-hand or right-hand users. The extra buttons can act like middle click and scroll button. Additional buttons can be used for Forward and Back that is common for web browsers and file manager navigations.
2 years late on this video, I actually found the answer for more effective word input on controller. It will be much faster than selecting words on on-screen keyboard, or using PS4 motion controller. Using 2 analogs would be faster.

I like how alternate tools for people with disabilities are always overpriced like $400? Fucking serious?!?
Less demand due to less buyers.
+
qantj vulpis Demand is supposed to have the opposite impact on price...
Personally I don't think 400 is that much, when I had my stroke, the wheelchair I had to get was theb etter part of 1k. If I had to get an electronic one, it owuld have costed thousands. High end software for disabled software for diasbled ppl can cost hundreds or more too. This deisgn seems like it would make it invaluble for ppl with partcular disabiltied, making it so they can type as fast or faster than the avg person
In fact I owuld be surprised if an avg person ends up tpying faster with this than with a nroaml keyboard. Shit, even though I have regianed tons of my mtoor skills (still shit comapred to msot pl though) with a week or less dickign aorund with this, I bet I could be typoing double the speed (and way mroe accurately) than I do know
Fuck man, I REALLY want one now, I just can afford it, but mark my words im getting it oce I can afford it. This would be fucking god send
Point it, don't run ur mouth if you dont know wtf ur talking about. There a rhyme and reason this shit is priced the way it is. If youve never had to deal with not being able to use the products made for Jow Blow, then you dont know how disabled persons (such as myself) are just fucking GRATEFUL to have ANYTHING they can work with, nd unless its semthing stupid like maybe if this keyboard 2k, we are happy to pay bc we know hoiw the fucking market works

"Autists can type faster with the OrbiTouch".
Me: As an autist. I'm completely in denial that's possible.
Yeah, don't bother. Keep your $400
Devas JJH I actually had something quite similar to this and it worked for me.
Yeah. I'm autistic and this thing just boggles my mind. Granted I'd have to try to be sure but I see no point as I've never had any problems using a standard QWERTY keyboard.
Though saying that, autism is a spectrum and if this works for someone else, that's all that matters.
Ethereal Psyche yeah. I'm kinda on the lower end of the autism spectrum so it may help for the higher end of the spectrum. Still though
It intrigued me, honestly. I'd love to try, but not with that price tag.
I'm colorblind, how the f*** am i going to use this thing?
nono declerck Guessing?
i hope your not really colorblind, cuz omg lmao
I was actually concerned about that myself as I am colorblind myself. But I'm also autistic so I thought it could actually be pretty useful.

Why would it be a KEYboard if it has no KEYS
Because "typing board", although correct, doesn't sound too cool
It's called mousekeylessboard
Because hoverboard
Randy Zhu i
It's like sugar free sugar.
If those boob pads are replaceable with foot pads, then it might find a bigger market with amputees with no hands and even in mine. My feet can somehow trip in flat grounds, this might be the training it needs.
cloud08 true
TUBE WITH RUBBER DUCKIES? HELL ILL BUY IT FOR THE DUCKIES ALONE.
me too.
I'd just buy it for the tube. Who doesn't want a new cylinder to sleep in?
if it doesn't have keys, how can it be a KEYboard?
Reimon There are many different types of keys... That is a keyboard. Just like a smartphone doesnt have physical keys or a piano doesnt have numbered keys. it still is a keyboard.
Boob board.
Booboard
If it's a KEYboard, then how come it can't open doors?
Vinn Regi Because its not that type of key
how do you scroll?
Alex Lu ctrl and mouse down i think. oh wait. the keyboard cant do that either.
with the mouse?
You don't.
Um I think he was joking about that
Yell at it?
Game compatibility could be improved with a "Gamepad mode" Where the orbs act as analog sticks, but that wouldn't let you fire/jump/reload/etc, you'd need to include a number of buttons; 4 on each hand would probably be sufficient but would defeat the purpose of this product being accessible to people with finger dexterity issues.
Keyboard minus key = board
You sir just payed $400 dollars for a *BOARD OF PLASTIC*
dont forget you also get rubber duckies with that plastic board
No, mate, a board is flat. This one has a boob-job.
Payed=/=PAID
The past tense of the verb pay is paid for the majority of its senses. In fact, paid is sometimes used even for the nautical meanings of pay. But you can’t use payed for the non-nautical senses of pay. So, you can say:
I paid my debt in full. He payed the deck with tar. She paid out the rope.
But you can’t say:
I payed my debt in full.

If you're missing both arms... well, that's a different story.
You could actually handle this shit with your feet, knees or elbows.

This would be good for someone with crippling arthritis, but that's about it.

Arguably the Orbitouch isn't a keyboard as it is a specialized interface device for people with severe RSI or arthritis.
no one in the right mind would ever fucking buy that
at that price i sure as hell wouldnt but shave like $350 off the price and i would buy it just for shits and giggles
Workplaces as well, under threat of reasonable accommodation lawsuits, would provide this for someone who really needs it. Niche market, but at these prices, you would only need to sell limited amounts to reap profits.
it's mostly for people with disabilities but yeah the price is ridiculous
Gabeothasicomono Affording disability is damn expensive

you know you're broke when a keyboard is double the cost of your PC
eek
This keyboard is actually really cool. I can see how the more universal design might not appear to people with no issues typing on a standard keyboard, but it actually solves many issues for people that cannot. I think it's a step forward for computers being easier to use for all. And if a standard keyboard doesn't work for you, then the $400 pricetag is totally worth the added functionality over voice typing.
How to waste 400$
@Levi Gonzalez ok non disabled elitist...
The person who designed this is WAAAY into sci-fi alien ships. lol
Yep this machine should be look a alien movie
Plot twist: the keyboard is cheap and the rubber duckies are the expensive part
If it had an apple logo, everyone would be using it
No they wouldn't
not everyone, only the dumb one
Shhhhhh don't give them ideas.
well it's okay to buy a new phone for a new feature, but there's people who buy iPhone X for that new emoji only
if it had tits, everyone would be using it
One question... why not include mouse buttons in the board? I mean the handthings already look like mice, so why not include mouse buttons in there... sure they shouldn't be easy to press to minimize struggle with wrong mouse clicks... But wouldn't that be cool??? sry am from germany
The only time you said something wrong was telling us that you were from Germany. If you didn’t say that then your whole sentence would be fine. Plus, why are you sorry that you’re from Germany?
Would also be neat if the mice had trackballs on them, so everything can be controlled by having your hands on the keyboard bumps
@@bbjygm that's actually a really good idea.
@@brush7639 Force of habit
Because you wouldn't be able to use it to move the cursor.
"HULK HANDS"
Yes, i suffer from this disability
Lmao
Next, why don't we just get rid of the keyboard, and we can just get a single button, and depending on how many times you click, you get a letter? Convenient, huh?
Lady No, it would take a very long time to type.
Bodu lol that's the point. I'm making fun of all these over complicated keyboards
Lady ah lol, I feel stupid.
Bodu we've all been like that XD
So basically old phones with buttons except worse?Wouldn't be surprised if someone has already made that.
Actually the main problem is that it is fucking retarded and you should use a normal keyboard and mouse like a normal human being lol.
Not to mention they could have added a couple of buttons on the domes themselves.
I think Linus's videos are entirely made up of sponsored content now
he's the home shopping network of youtube
he shows you the keyboards and the sponsors you should buy (from?)
2 years late on this video, I actually found the answer for more effective word input on controller. It will be much faster than selecting words on on-screen keyboard, or using PS4 motion controller. Using 2 analogs would be faster.
