    Plouffe is back at it again with yet another QD-OLED monitor unboxing, this time featuring Gigabyte and their FO32U2P, which features a DisplayPort 2.1 input. Will this one make him regret his purchase (again)?

      The biggest problem is that no one really makes a copper cable that can handle 80 Gbit/second. I don't think 100 Gbit ethernet copper cables even exist at longer than 1 meter.
      At those speeds, we're pretty much exclusively at optical cables, and that makes stuff far more expensive - not just for the cable, but for the plugs as well.

      Plot twist: the thing that makes you go "nope" isn't with the monitor, but the fact that DP80 will require hyper-expensive active cabling for any useful cable length (longest certified currently is 1.2m, will likely never exceed 1.5m for passive cables). And given that DSC isn't visible in any way, there's zero real world benefit to going without. Paying $100+ for a usable display cable, and the only difference it makes is to increase your power consumption a bit? No thanks!

When I'm using a M1 Pro MacBook, 18W is perfectly sufficient, especially when the lid is closed. • @Kraaketaer
      @Kraaketaer 16 днів тому +2

      That's the kind of stuff that's done for low end LCDs, typically things rated for HDR400, that don't even have any kind of backlight control - they just know how to decode a HDR signal, but don't have the hardware to do anything with it. None of this is relevant for a high end monitor, especially an OLED one. Now, Windows isn't the best at handling HDR on a system level, but for any of these monitors there'll be a major difference in any HDR-enabled application or game.
      If you want more in depth data, look at HWUB/Monitors Unboxed or Rtings, they both do in depth testing of HDR functionality.

    Over a thousand dollar US for a monitor... I will wait another 5 to 10 years, hopefully by then QD OLED will be cheaper... Or something better will come out.

    Nice! As an ex-owner of the Gigabyte Aorus FO48U (4K 120Hz 48"), I will probably get this as my next monitor. I am currently using a 4K 60Hz 28" monitor (massive downgrade), so look forward to getting myself an FO32U2P! The 240Hz will be remarkable vs this 60Hz I'm using now. Thanks for this review! 😊

    I'd love a direct comparison video between some of these ~$1300 monitors and MSI's $1000. There never seems to be more than 1 thing (maybe) different, but that price gap is crazy.

    • @thunderarch5951
      @thunderarch5951 16 днів тому

      I think the msi doesn't have uhbr20, regardless, there are others like lg and Samsung that have good brand new models for interesting prices.
      But, personal opinion, 4k 240hz is totally useless.
      Only way to achieve that even with a future 5090 is going full dlss frame gen, which also means enabling Nvidia and co. to push on prices even further.

    You guys should start testing flicker. This is (mis?)advertised as "flicker free" but does in fact flicker at an invisible to the human eye but not really that high frequency, similar to PWM on many OLED phones. This can give headaches, eyestrain etc to some users.

    The short cable issue can be solved EASILY with A: Thicker cable and B: Optical Transmission. Why not here yet? The market is not here _yet._ and they will be quite expensive. Around $50+ to start with.

    I got the FO32U2 on launch and it's great. 18% more money for the FO32U2P with a port I can't utilize and short cables, not worth it IMO. I do productivity stuff on it along with some gaming. I have dynamic wallpaper, auto hide taskbar, auto screen saver, auto turn on monitor and all the oled care features turned on. If burn in happens after 4 years, then it happens. There's more important things to stress about.
