The driver, a middle aged woman who had been smoking Pot hours earlier and had the vehicle up to 118 MPH seconds before the crash, was sentenced to 20 to 30 years in Prison. So there you have it. The poor victim who was killed just trying to get to work that morning apparently, her life was worth just 20 years. After 20 years the killer gets her life back. The poor woman who died and her family, not so much.

My favorite Cousin was killed by a Drunk Driver while driving to his job. Head on collisioin on the highway because the speeding Drunk, in a 1 ton pickup, jumped the lane divider barrier and landed his bumper in my cousins face. It wouldn't bother me one bit, in stiuations like this above, where the Impared Driver was caught, beyond any argument that they did it, just be shot right there in the vehicle. Or left to expire from their injuries. Which they rarely have. Make them be the last one on an ambulance and EMT's!
That scenario actually happened here in Texas. DUI Driver stuck a group of boys that were pushing their Dad's car on the shoulder of the road to their driveway a few feet up the road. Both boys died and the Driver ended up in a ditch across the road. Somebody walked up to him and put a 357 Magnum bullet through his skull. Shooter was never identified. Some say it was the boys father, some say it was a relative and others say a neighbor or witness. DAtried to pin it on the Father but he was holding his sons when the shots rang out. He was found not guilty by a Jury of 12 of his fellow citizens.
I gaurentee that Driver will never be a threat to innocent lives ever again. HARSH? Yep, so is being forced to bury your family because someone decided to drive while being so stoned or so drunk they can't even walk.
As far as I'm concerned, kill while driving impared then you will spend the rest of your life in PRISON doing hard labor and every cent you earn will go to the family of your victims.

For all who see this I know the whole story. This was my brothers car it was a V6 Camaro that got stolen that day while he was at work. The woman who stole it went to go buy drugs and let three men get in the car then went to drop them off somewhere on the way the cop saw them speeding down a side street and that's when the video starts at first she signals because she was going to stop. Then the passenger pulls out a stolen gun and points it at her telling her to run or he will kill her. So she starts running from the police flooring it up to about 118mph when she impacts an SUV the driver of the SUV dies on impact. And All four of the Camaro occupants survived with serious injuries the other two vehicles involved in the crash were fine. And the driver of the Camaro was charged with second degree murder and will be locked up till 2038 at the minimum. The passengers also got locked up on other charges and they were all repeat offenders so no parole. I might even still have upclose pictures of the car after the wreck and the car is still sitting in a police impound lot. The accident was on 24th and Dove Rd.

Joe D so you're saying once chased they drive at wide open throttle till crashing or out of gas even when pursuit is terminated? If that isn't what you're saying, you agree they often slow down once they realize the chase is over.

    • @joed9491
      @joed9491 6 років тому +3

Aaron McClure - Sounds like you're trying to put words in my mouth because that's not what I'm saying but what I am saying is that each pursuit needs to be evaluated for the risk factor instead of a blanket policy in which you can't pursue. Sounds like from the tone of your comment, that's what you want, no pursuits for anything and that you don't even consider the driver who is driving recklessly and/or drunk BEFORE the police encounter them, to be pursued if they run and they should be given a pass because it would be those cops fault if they did chase them and they crashed.
And no, I don't agree that they often slow down once the chase if over or the cops have backed off. I have seen it time and time again where no officers are in sight and the suspects are still traveling at high speeds which leads me to another question that all the anti-police chase people never seem to bring up. Why are these chases at high speeds? All these modern cars are computer controlled and with the highest speed limit in the nation, why is every car manufactured not controlled at 85 miles per hour? I guess because it's a lot easier to tell the police not to pursue than it is to make sure that if someone does flee, they won't be able to outrun the police.

from my eyes, the cop DID stop pursuing him. cop cars (non-crown vics) can easily accelerate to the speed the camaro was driving, but you'll notice the officer radioed in the situation, and let the driver speed off... he already had all of the Camaro's information anyways.
In fact, by the time the camaro starting going 100+, the police cruiser was not going much faster than the traffic already on the road.... and that is WITH all the cars slowing down and braking.

Every situation is different. A review of high speed chases indicates that most are the result of poor self control by the driver of the vehicle. They all aren't bank robbers/stick up men/suspected murderers with outstanding warrants. Shooting a photograph of the license plate does not establish who is driving and breaking the law. It also doesn't distinguish between an owned vehicle and a stolen vehicle. Some departments are large; others small. There are approximately 18,000 departments in the United States," Don't assume that all train all officers in pursuits either.
By the way, a guy with a suspended license is not deterred from driving by a potential fine or jail term for not having a current license.

Always be careful when you get into a car with someone. In 1981 there were three boys in a car were being pulled over because their tailight was out and the driver decided to run from the police. The car and its occupants even went through our development trying to outrun the police and turned back on to a two lane rd and drove roughly three miles when the driver at over 100mph missed a curve went off the road and slammed into a tree, it split the car into two pieces and all the occupants of the car were killed instantly, and the police even backed off early in the chase only because he had the license plate number and do you know when I look at that tree in recent years it’s still alive but will never forget that crash.

I looked at the tree a few days later. This tree was about 8-10 inches in diameter.....The bark was scuffed up ..... The tree was fine with no sign of any damage 10 years later.....

But two seconds later when I looked up.. an ambulance to my left came barreling through the intersection ... I am certain that it's only because of my mistake that I am here today... From that point on I always look both directions

She then went to buy drugs and the drug dealer entered the vehicle and when the police lit them up the drug dealer pulled a gun on her and told her to run then she crashed. Everyone in the Camaro lived through the 118mph crash (three men and the car theif) the other woman in the suv died on impact. I personally hope she never gets out and I hope this never happens to anybody else.

If criminals were allowed to flee in high speed pursuit cases no criminal would stop for police ever again. It's tragic and costly but unfortunately it must be done. Blame the criminals not the brave officers. My father was a Sheriff Deputy and I can tell you we had fear for his life in the back of our minds every day he put that uniform on. The courage it takes to drive 90+ MPH on our streets is hard to comprehend. But they fear the death or injury to innocent people more than they fear for their own lives. God Bless the men and women who risk their lives for their communities. They really are everyday warriors.

    • @JubeProductions

I hear what you are saying and I agree that criminals must be pursued, or else they would not stop for the police. But sometimes a chase must be called off if it is too dangerous. In a case like this where it was a minor traffic violation, it's a hard call to make. If the only known crime is a traffic violation is it really worth it?
This wasn't even a chase since it didn't even last a minute, but there are other cases where the pursuit needs to stop, unfortunately.

As other have said, why this isn't considered the same as pre-meditated murder with life sentences is beyond me. A twenty year sentence is an insult to the victim. The driver should be locked up for life. End of story. This level of reckless selfishness disqualifies a person from eligibility for second chances. The victim doesn't get a second chance therefore the driver shouldn't either.

People are so stupid. I was a witness to a crash similar to this one. I was driving in a residential area in my lane and next thing I know there's a suv going around my car on the shoulder doing about 100mph. SUV fish tails then rolls about 3 times and ejects a pregnant female from the passenger seat and I got to watch her hit the pavement and slide about 60'. She was dead on impact.
2 minutes later a cop rolls up and turns out the guy was getting pulled over for an expired plate and ran. The cops even gave up on the chase and let him go but he was still running.
Dude killed his girlfriend and unborn child over a ticket. He was sentenced to 15 years.
