I loved the curry & chips at school dinners. I do recall the curry having sultanas in it. Sometimes, they'd throw pieces of apple in it, too. For £1.99 it's a quick tea when you're in a hurry. Thanks Gareth 👍
My world often revolves around; "Chinese Curry Sauce"! Especially the; "Goldfish" variety, (the best!). Unfortunately, (to annoy me), my local Sainsbury's Super Store refuses to stock it for me, so I have to purchase it from Amazon...pack of two, next-day delivery! Wonderful for Oven Chips, also with Basmati Rice, with Chicken bits!! A magical taste for the Tonsils! It has a flavour and tastes all its own, completely different from ordinary Curry Sauce! I haven't tried; "Mayflower Chinese Curry Sauce" yet...again, my local Sainsbury's refuses to stock it, but my; "Goldfish Chinese Curry Sauce" ticks all the boxes for me! A joy for a Teatime or Bed-Time treat!....😊....😊....!
Thank you Gareth for the vlog of chips and curry sauce. I still have my thing to cut crinkle chips as they always taste better crinkly! chips looked nice. Sauce seemed a bit too sweet for your liking. You made me hungry watching you eat your curry chips! Good for £1.99 how can your grumble at that.
In my mind there's a big difference between 'curry and chips' (not this) and 'chips with curry sauce (this). £2 for a moderate size bag of frozen chips and a sachet of sauce doesn't seem that cheap.

Nothing to do with the food Gareth just a pointer when making a brew but it's your choice myself and family only recently stopped squeezing the tea bags for this reason but like I said it's your choice 👉 The liquid that remains trapped inside the tea bag has even higher instances of tannic acid than what is able to steep out of the bag on its own,” they add. “By squeezing the tea bag, you inadvertently release these tannic acids into your tea and in turn create a far more bitter, sour, and acidic cup of tea.”
Cheers mate, I can see the attraction for late nights & munchies, but not for me. My favourite version of these were microwaveable ones from Morrisons, for like a fiver for 3 in various flavours, it was a simple savoury snack, kinda akin to having a Pot Noodle.
Mmm, crinkle-cut, maximize the surface area makes crispier chips. I suppose they could be formed potato, though, which is not good. Oh well. Seems to me that, unless you're just having tea (which it looks like you are), this needs a lot of additions -- some green peas, for starters, maybe some slices of roast beef or other leftover meat. When I was a kid (many, many, many moons ago), my mum used to make a mild curry with sultanas in it. I have never been a fan of spicy food, but us kids loved that mild curry my mum used to make. I sometimes use curry powder in my cooking, more for the flavour than for the heat, I still love a mild curry.

5:30 Making tea: By the time you got round to pouring the water into the mug, it was no longer boiling. I only ever use *boiling* water. If I walk to the sink to get a mug, I switch the just-boiled kettle on again for a few seconds so that the water is at 99° when it hits the tea bag.
They look pretty good to me may give em a try I think me & the missus saw something similar in Iceland to, I do prefer the Chinese Goldfish curry paste as I just simply love Chinese curry & the paste is just right as I've tried many Chinese curry sauces from supermarkets & I've always been disappointed with them, I do like the Mayflower medium curry powder to & mixing them together does make for a nice curry, or just simply on their own as both good. The Goldfish paste just takes it for me but I do like both, sorry I'm rambling on here now lol.
@@swally291Rotten nowadays, the filling, miniscule as is tastes bad and spews out when cooking, whatever the pancake is tastes gross too. Farm foods own are worse.
There are a few types of curry sauce, there is chip shop curry sauce (Dinaclass powered mix) in the UK which is with or without sulanas sweet and gloopy, irush curry sauce this is usualy very spicy and not sweet, then there is chinese curry sauce which is the mayflower/goldfish/youngs (often a paste is better, try the Goldfish Madras version is excellent!) and gets mixed up with chip shop curry sauce due to all the chinese chip shops that we had in the UK in the 70's and 80's that did both fish and chips and chinese takeaway. The chinese versions are used in chinese takeaways for curry sauce on it's own for Beef/Chicken/Prawn curry with onions and peas etc. ;) Chinese curry was invented in the 60's due to the rise in popularity of indian curry takeaways.
I have to say, I am always 'Spot On', and always make my own 'chips'. P.s. add a little corn starch to your chips before Air frying them. It helps make them extra crispy.
Prefer to get M&S Fries (1.4kg for £2.75) and do a salt & pepper Chinese mix on them with a side of goldfish curry sauce. Easy to make your own salt and pepper Chinese seasoning, just remember to not use supermarket five spice as they have sugar in them.
A bag of potatoes with a 'curry style sauce' for £2? Buy a couple of Maris Piper, Rooster or King Edward potatoes, cut them up. Rinse them in water in a bowl until the water is clear. Throw them in a pan of boiling water for 5 mins. Drain them. Get a small bowl and add some olive oil, salt, black pepper and some curry powder of your choice. Coat the chips in the oil and cook them in the air fryer. Better quality produce, no additives, cheaper and tastier. 👍🏻
Get some mash powder, boil a kettle, mix it together with three fried eggs and a dollop of brown sauce and english mustard, have it in big dollops on fried bread.
Yes to all of this except…. Instead of boiling the spuds stick them in the microwave for 3 minutes. They crisp up better, it’s easier and they go dead fluffy inside.

Proper Chinese curry paste is available in every supermarket, all you need to do is add boiling water to your preferred consistency, and this is basically the exact same stuff you get in your takeaway.

It has never been popular in my area as people don't like the smell. Don't mean to offend anyone but it's the truth. Many Indian restaurants are in my area but the only people who use them are Indian. Just stating the facts. 😘
I've tried these and for £1.99 you can't go wrong I thought the chips were really good as well the salt and pepper chicken balls they do in that range are really worth a Try gaz
You're better off doing your own Gareth. Bag of crinkles and the mayflower/goldfish combo is great, done that myself. By the way to counteract sweetness a splash of malt vinegar, to tone down a sauce too spicy, a drop of milk or mix in some crème fresh 👍👍
A good amount of chips you got with that i wasn't expecting that many, plus where did you get that mug from i could do with one of those pretending to work for 8 hours 😅 👍
I do hope your going to try getting the farmfoods pork rib thats all the rage at the minute and add a rub etc and do it in the oven. I know you can do it.. many video's out there to help.
"Not for EU"... Oh well, would have liked to try it, but like so many of the the things you test, it's not sold in Denmark, not just the brand, but the dish. I'd say that DK shops tend to be a bit snobbish in that regard when it comes to easy-cook pre-made stuff for airfryer or microwave.
Does Goldfish curry sauce contain real goldfish? I felt the need to ask as whenever I’ve had cottage pie I’ve never noticed cottages listed in the ingredients same with shepherds pie no shepherds either.
Not had this one but had the katsu chicken and chips. It similarly had a very sweet sauce but Katsu is sweeter than your average curry sauce. Wonder if they have just used the same sauce for both coz that katsu one could never be considered remotely chip shop!!
You'll sleep better tonight having found a way to use the flawed tab system 👍 Would normally say not enough curry sauce there but it didn't sound too good anyway 🤣

Chippy currysauce is a unique curry taste, it's not Chinese nese Indian thai, it's werid but it only works with a chippy tea The make is dinaclass curry sauce mix it's what every chippy in Cornwall use
Nooooo, the scales are dead...They have kicked the bucket...They have gone to meet their maker. Another £1.99 chips and something. You're better off doing your own Gareth. Bag of crinkles and the mayflower/goldfish combo is great, done that myself. By the way to counteract sweetness a splash of malt vinegar, to tone down a sauce too spicy, a drop of milk or mix in some crème fresh 👍👍
Thanks 👍
Nowt wrong with sultanas in curry sauce. Vesta did it years ago.
Very eighties!
Squashed fly fruit improves almost everything!
🤮
@arthurvasey in southern India they use many fruits in curry
@@juliawigger9796 they certainly do
A good amount of chips you got with that i wasn't expecting that many, plus where did you get that mug from i could do with one of those pretending to work for 8 hours 😅 👍
I do hope your going to try getting the farmfoods pork rib thats all the rage at the minute and add a rub etc and do it in the oven. I know you can do it.. many video's out there to help.
What’s that naughty mug in the background Gaz? 🤔🤣… great review as usual 👍
Haha 👍
"Not for EU"... Oh well, would have liked to try it, but like so many of the the things you test, it's not sold in Denmark, not just the brand, but the dish. I'd say that DK shops tend to be a bit snobbish in that regard when it comes to easy-cook pre-made stuff for airfryer or microwave.
Was it sweet ?
MJ diner do some lovely frozen stuff. There Doner meat is beautiful
Whatever happened to that Viral Saxa salt and vinegar spray I’ll never know Gaz as my ex boyfriend said that the last time he saw the product was over a year and a half ago now in Sainsburys as I remember you doing a vlog on the one that I sent to you @ your then PO Box number .
But on the plus side you are looking absolutely amazing 🤩 mate and I’m still trying to look for a new flat to live in as I’m still in Temporary accommodation atm in Colwyn Bay ( North Wales ) Xx
Chippy currysauce is a unique curry taste, it's not Chinese nese Indian thai, it's werid but it only works with a chippy tea
The make is dinaclass curry sauce mix it's what every chippy in Cornwall use
Didn't look great
Enjoyed watching
Best wishes gareth 👍
Cheers Kizzy
Just looked then , ive been a member for 2 years , were does time go pal
Time flies mate, thanks kindly 😊
Iceland sells salt and vinegar chips you should give them a go
People are now incapable of placing their own desired amount of salt n vinegar on crap chips? wow
I've reviewed them I think
The cup behind you as me intrigued to what comes the + sign 🤔
Goldfish curry sauce. I know it's subjective but well worth a try for a nice authentic Chinese curry 🍽
Agreed. mayflower is way too salty. I like the hotter version of Goldfish (madras) odd name as its not indian just a hotter chinese curry.
@@bepto4877Cool👍🏻 Never knew the Madras version was out there! Cheers for that 😁
@@honestg Amazon sell it. Wierdly thet do a hot & spicy version which I havent tried as I like the madras so much.
Nooooo, the scales are dead...They have kicked the bucket...They have gone to meet their maker. Another £1.99 chips and something. Farm Foods are knocking it out of the park for (not new) recipes aren't they. These companies seem to be saying 'If you are being hit hard by the Cost of Living crisis then you will eat just about anything we throw at you'. Has a place I suppose, and I know where that is. All the best bud.
Cheers Adz
I tried the mixed starter , 4 chicken wings, 4 mushrooms 2 potato skins
