I truly enjoy making table toppers/runners and coasters. The " light at the end of the tunnel" doesn't seem so far away as with a full-size quilt. Thanks for the encouragement!
Crisis pregnancy centers love to have baby quits as do most Hospice groups. Our quilt guild makes many and turns them in every 6 months.
Great idea 💕
Now that you mention it, Nikki, I wore a quilted circle skirt was back in 1957-58 - middle school. I had forgotten all about that. I even remember it was like a light turquoise color. It was the time of the poodle skirt era. Thanks for the memory. ❤
If I wouldn't look like the Stay Puft Marshmallow-Man I would love a quilted coat!
😂😂😂 ya me tooo! ❤️😀
Yes!! I 100% agree!!
I am working on finishing a huge (queen-sized) quilt right now. I told my husband that once I am finished with this quilt, I am going to work on a series of smaller quilt projects, such as wall hangings or tote bags, to fill in the gaps. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE making big quilts, and I already have on hand all the fabrics and notions I will need for at least six more quilts. However, I don't have the financial resources right now to buy more fabric, so I am trying to space those six quilt projects out so that I can have those projects on hand for some time. Therefore, I am going to fill those spaces in between quilts with other projects using the scrap fabrics I already have on hand. Like you said, it scratches an itch to be creative without feeling overwhelming or budget busting.
If you want to make something last longer try English paper piecing as it takes a bit longer than machine sewn items but you still get accuracy from the papers. It’s a great way to use up scraps too.
I like small projects. I don’t like quilting big projects on my sewing machine and good long armers aren’t easy to come by in the U.K. I end up hand quilting my bigger quilts which takes ages! Baby quilts are great but I’d rather do wall hangings or cushions. Project Linus take lots of different sizes of quilts. In the U.K. they don’t want batting in the smallest baby quilts so check their guidelines.
I like to make bed runners. I use them to cover my pillow section so it's very easy to make a bed. no tucking the comforter around pillows. Just throw this bed runner over the pillows and bed is made with no tucking. Make runner the width of the bed by about 24 - 30".
A great video Nikki..thx! It's fun to make smaller projects, quick satisfaction. And people love smaller quilted gifts.
My foray into quilting came one Christmas after I saw YT video featuring this book. It's called Pin Pals, and I received it as a Christmas Gift that year. I figured it would be a great way to learn how to quilt without using up too many supplies. I got through half of the book and then moved onto something else. I did give almost all of them away as gifts. I still have to go back and finish all of them. Those pin cushions are my favorite things! I can turn those tiny quilt toppers into anything, right? They don't have to be pin cushions!
Yes, love this!
When I first got into quilting, I read through the Farmer's Wife 1930s Sampler Quilt book for fun! I haven't made any blocks, but maybe I'll get there one day. Also, Quilts for Kids is another organization that gives donated quilts to kids in the hospital. My son got a baby quilt from them when he was in the NICU.
Project Linus takes Blankets for kids from 0 to 18 years old so yes baby quilts would be great.
My mom would hand quilt all of her quilts. She hardly ever watched TV, but when we did, she'd be sitting by her standing hoop doing intricate patterns. I'm not that girl-at least not yet. It's easy to get intimidated when you see those masterpieces throughout your childhood. This gave me the perfect little pep talk. I did a bookmark and a mug rug both quilted. It is such a happy feeling to do a project that isn't necessarily grand but is the perfect bite sized nibble.
I am literally watching tv and hand quilting right now 😂
Wonderful ideas, as usual. Thanks for the inspiration Nikki. My sewing guild makes quilted lap quilts (usually 36x42" +/-) and donates them to the local children's home, nursing homes and homeless shelter. They are always appreciated.
Such a good idea. I have one that I started 15 or 20 years ago that you just reminded me of😂
Hi Nikki, you've always got great ideas. Thank you.
I always love your ideas! A king sized quilt is pretty daunting, but these ideas are so doable! Hey, how about a little quilt for one of your dolls? The rabbit, ballerina or granddad? Love it!
Great idea, doll quilts are so fun 💕
I’ve got the farmers wife quilt book - I don’t think I ever got further than reading the stories 🤣. I’m pretty sure project Linus take baby quilts from premie size, well here in UK they do. Thanks again for another entertaining and inspiring video ❤
Great ideas! Once again, you have inspired me!! 😆 I’m going to go look at my stash of orphan blocks with my new “goggles” on! Lol. AND….maybe even try out some new techniques to make into some cute bags. ❤
I agree, small projects are more manageable for me. Several years ago I made a quilted cover for my heating pad to replace the flimsy cheap flannel one. A lap quilt may be a good alternative to a baby quilt and they make good sofa throws.
You are such an inspiration. Thank you for the great ideas.
Love this video but hoping the wonky quilt comes out soon 😊
It will, very soon!
I've recently discovered your channel and love your videos. I really like making cushions/pillows as small projects. 🙂
In the 1970s my mom sewed me and my sisters quilted maxi wrap skirts! She used cute prequilted fabric and a wide wrap waistband.
thanks! I'm going to make some log cabin place mats.
I love watching your videos! And I love all your wonderful ideas!!
Once again, AWESOME! Thank you
Just found this channel. This was so interesting that I have subscribed. ❤👍from Somerset UK
Thanks for sharing some great ideas. I really needed the inspiration.TFS🌴💕
Love this topic because I gravitate towards sewing bags and accessories because they seem more manageable and less costly. I have made a pillow and wall hangings out of quilt blocks. Definitely will need to try a few more of these ideas.
Hi! Norway here. Great list of things to use my unfinished patchworks in. Thank you! And btw, you definately saved my Christmas shopping budget this last Christmas, with all the fun little things you have taught me to sew from my stack of fabric that I orignally planned to make HUGE quilts out of🤣I've made a bunch of the tissue-holders and book sleeves. 🙌I even made myself a book sleeve for my Bible! 😀
So happy to hear this! 🫶🏻
Nikki, delightful video. Your enthusiasm is inspiring, friendly, cheerful, and instructive. Happy Valentines Day ❤. ❤.❤. 😊
Thank you! You too!
Quilted pillows are another great way to use up UFOs
Project Linus takes quilts for kids 0 to 18 years old. Definitely baby blankets!!
Great!
Awesome, how is scrappy house quilt? Would like to see more of that pls. ❤
It’s coming, I promise 🙌🏻
I use my scrap fabric to make my dogs mini quilts, scarfs, totes, purses, glass cases, coasters, sleep bonnets ❤❤❤
I make anything that has big piecing. I don't do quilts with baby pieces.
Love it!!!!❤❤
Great video as always ❤
Thank you Niki. I love this idea.
Nikki👏👏👏awesome video!
Thanxabunch ❤️😀
Thanks for the ideas. I'm hoping to make a decorative throw for the end of my bed some day. The kind you see in hotels, it should be only about 1/4 the size of a full quilt. (I cannot think of the name of these). I have also made some cuhion covers that I exchange with others in the house. I like different covers but can't stand too many cushions.
Lap quilt maybe?
A bed runner, I think it’s called!
@@PinCutSew Yes, that's it! Would be a terrific small quilting project.
@@lynnries7729 that's it. I find it too intimidating to quilt a full sized quilt on my domestic machine.but I want to try a bed runner.
What is the best way to hang a mini quilt? I just made my first mini. I was needing a sew fix and my time was limited. Fast and fun!
For mine, before I bind them, I cut two squares and press them in half diagonally. I baste them onto the top corners and bind the quilt. They create little pockets for a wooden dowel. I hope that makes sense!
Yes, makes sense. Thanks
I never found your link below your video!!
Sorry! Which link?
Do any of your patterns just give dimensions? I don’t have a printer.
Yes! The book sleeve, both hot pads, the apron, bookmarks, and if I think of more I’ll come back and comment again 😁
@@PinCutSew thank you 🤗💃
