You simply can't go wrong with Jim Croce. There are plenty more where this came from. He was one of a double handful of phenomenal singer/songwriters that helped to make the 60s and 70s a special time for songs that will move you to laugh or cry, or critique the world around us with a musical eye.
It's Jim Crow-Chee - and there are a number of songs you need to check out from him - Operator; Bad, Bad LeRoy Brown and Don't Mess Around with Jim will give you a good taste! Enjoy.
Your reaction is perfect!! I always sway or bob as I can't help it. This song almost forces you to. I always get a smile when listening to this song!! When the strings start, it is so beautiful. Jim croons along with the acoustic guitar. A musical masterpiece. Thank you, Jim. You are forever missed.
Jim Croce (pronounced Crochai) emerged as a leading singer-songwriter in the early 1970s after he was joined by Maury Muehleisen, a classically trained pianist who learned to play an exquisite guitar quickly. Over the course of two years, they made three albums together, and many of their songs charted near the top. Prior to their meeting, Croce had played for years but without success, having gigs in bars but not concert halls, so he often had to work other jobs to support his wife and their infant son. At the peak of their popularity in 1973, after a concert, they boarded a small plane which crashed on take-off, killing them both along with the pilot. Jim was 30 when he died; Maury was 24. I've Got a Name is a wonderful song but the only hit sing NOT written by Jim and Maury; it was written for a movie by two older, veterans of music and broadways songs, who asked Jim to sing it. Among their greatest hits: Time in a Bottle (written about Jim's feeling towards his infant son) Bad, bad Leroy Brown I'll Have to Say I Love You in a Song Box #10 Workin' at The Car Wash Blues You Don't Mess Around with Jim As to how Jim pronounced his last name, he was too polite to correct others, but he is Italian, and a single "e" at the end of a word or name is pronounced "ai" and not "ee." Jim made that clear the one time he was asked by a TV host how to pronounce his last name.
( 50 ) YEARS AGO NOW WAS WHEN HE PASSED ON FROM THE HORRIBLE TRAGIC PLANE CRASH ON TAKEOFF ☹ THAT ALBUM COVER IS ( PHOTOGRAPHS AND MEMORIES ) BAD BAD LEROY BROWN, OPERATOR, YOU DON'T MESS AROUND WITH JIM, AND OF COURSE HIS HUGE HIT : TIME IN A BOTTLE 😊
1973 Croce was only 30 years old. Others killed in the crash were pilot Robert N. Elliott, Croce's bandmate Maury Muehleisen, comedian George Stevens, manager and booking agent Kenneth D. Cortese, and road manager Dennis Rast. Pronounced Crowchee
Play any Croce, any where anytime....and someone , will be lost in a story of their life..and when they come to..they'll be in a better place. sincerely, old D.J. ✌️
I was a senior in high school in 1973. All of this music you’ve been listening to just surrounded us every single day. I think God and I grew up in that period of music. It still moves me to this day, and yes, this song still Makes me emotional along with time in a bottle and so on and so on. Love your channel.
Jim Croce was amazing. He did play guitar, and also had a backing guitarist and vocalist, Maury Muehleisen, who was also extremely talented and who died with him in the same plane crash. I recommend the live version of "Operator (That's Not the Way It Feels)" which shows them both playing.
@@ShawnSalvadori Another Artist you would probably like of this genre is Harry Chapin, great Songwriter and Musician. You also like a sad story I suggest "A Better Place To Be." Rest in Peace Harry . Rest in Peace Jim.
Amazing blind pick here ! Jim was a fantastic lyricist, but I found out it’s a cover, though it sounds like something he might have written. It meshes with others he wrote, like “Operator” and “Time In A Bottle” for it’s touching poetry. It was a shock to lose that great guy in his prime when he was all over the radio at the onset of his success.
I probably butchered saying his name my whole life. lol 😆 Because I think it's pronounced the way you said it. But I always pronounced his name as "Krochee" He is a wonderful storyteller; I love his work. Though, sadly we lost him in a plane crash when he was only 30 yrs. old. I'll leave another suggestion in case you'd like to check out more of his music. *"Jim Croce - Time In A Bottle (1973) Live [Studio Blend//eureka Yess"* But he left us with some beautiful tunes, and we are so thankful. RIP: Jim Croce ❤🔥U R Missed. This was a lovely reaction and I agree with thinking, bro. Thanks for sharing
Magnificent song, and yes, that is how you pronounce his last name. Most people thought it was pronounced differently, and some still do, but Jim told everyone how to pronounce it on The Tonight Show and you said it correctly.
I have that album, many tunes well worth the listen. Yes, he and his regular guitar playing partner do some serious sonic magic. They were taken too early.
Same here, but apparently most people got it wrong. He was Italian and the “e” at the end is pronounced as a hard A. Now they tell us! I guess out of respect I should say his name correctly. It seems appropriate, given the song we just listened to.
@@terri2494 His widow Ingrid Croce and his son A.J. Let's get on thing straight. For decades people thought Jim Croce wrote this song. HE DID NOT. The lyrics were by Norman Gimbel and music by Charles Fox. They convinced him to record it. Yes, Jim COULD have written this song easy, but HE DID NOT.
CROW-CHEE Every song he did was fantastic. He died in 1973 in a plane crash. Try "I Have to Say I Love You in a Song."
well. Really its crow cha it is italian
@@kh2099-z5f Well, I'm from hillbilly country, so I guess that's why we all say crow-chee. 😊

I love all of Jim Croce's songs ! He died way too young .
Jim Croce is an incredible songwriter!!! Very underrated due to his early departure...
Oh man you’re talking about shedding tears, wait till you listen to Time in a Bottle.

My favourite song from Jim Croce is lovely " Time In A Bottle"
It's hard to pick favorites, but that one is near the top of the list.

Most definitely, right?!!!! 🙂
ALL of his songs are great, he was such a fantastic writer & story teller. Another song you should try is Operator.

Listen to Operator by Jim Croce. I cried a few tears over that song!
A tragic loss for music lovers....and a memorable radio song from my yourh.
Great reaction!
I Love Jim Croce, I've been enjoying his music for a long, long time as the years of my well lived life have passed by. ❤️

One of my favorite songs from that time period. Gone too soon.
Again - another great artist. I find myself either laughing or crying to his songs. Great review. BTW, I think its pronounced Crochee.
Great analysis of a truly beautiful song!
He has some amazing songs and unfortunately died as his career started to take off.Died at 30 in a plane crash. Check out Time in a Bottle
Jim Cro-'chee"!
