I saw Gordon Lightfoot in concert 12 times and have listened to his music for over 50 years and love him. Rest in Peace Gordon, miss you and love you. ❤❤
FYI: Up here in Canada Gordie is a legend and there is nothing better than listening to him on a nice sunny early morning sitting on the dock at the cottage with him on in the background.... It is as close to nirvana as you can get !!!!
Don Quixote is great. But then Early morning rain is great too. But song from a winters night from the Gord’s gold albumin is awesome!! And the list goes on…
The early to mid 70s, had all of these great solo artists. Croce, and Lightfoot, were great storytellers, and then you had Elton John, and even some of the female artists like Carol King, Joni Mitchell, and Carly Simon and Linda Ronstadt. The 70s was just overflowing with great music, and it was all genres. Even Country and Western with Glenn Campbell, and Roy Clark and Charlie Pride etc. We were spoiled from 70s music man. Thank you.
DAMNNNNN SHAWN, YOU HAVE 4 GR88888 KILLER ALBUMS UP ON THE SCREEN THERE😊, BOB SEGER / AGAINST THE WIND, ELTON / CAPTAIN FANTASTIC, E.L.O. / A NEW WORLD RECORD, JAMES TAYLOR / SWEET BABY JAMES, NIIIIICCCE!💯😊YOU SHOULD DO BOTH : AGAINST THE WIND & SOMEONE SAVED MY LIFE TONIGHT , I'M SURE YOU'LL ENJOY THEM!😊
Absolute classic...another is:"The Last Time I Saw Her Face", brilliantly written and performed by Gordon. This song is extremely emotional, and hard-hitting. In my opinion, one of his best of all time.
You had the same reaction that most of us did when we first heard this vocal and musical masterpeice, just perfection and a heartfelt sadness for a lost love..."the feelings gone and I just can't get it back".
After this recording, at the request of his daughter, he changed the line "the feelings that you lack' to "the feelings that we lack" when he sang it. :)
The perfect song. Just gorgeous from start to finish. The melody, the musicianship, the lyrics, the vocals. A masterpiece. I was able to see Gordon play live many times - I’m so thankful for that. RIP ❤
4:20 “I’m just trying to understand all the feelings that YOU lack” After his daughter grew up, she confronted Gordon Lightfoot about that lyric. Saying “Mom’s not the only reason your marriage failed. You share half the blame.” He agreed, and began singing it “The feelings that WE lack.”
And his daughter was being diplomatic; Gordon later made it clear that he saw other women when he was touring and was struggling with alcoholism, so the feelings that his wife lacked were not doubt a product of how he had treated her and their marriage. Good on their daughter to set him straight, and good on Gordon for learning to accept his own failings.
I thought I'd suggest another song by Gordon Lightfoot, if interested. "Gordon Lightfoot - Rainy Day People" He's such a wonderful storyteller and such a great guitarist...truly beautiful stuff, bro. (ear candy🍬)
I had a Canadian roommate in grad school. He had only heard of Gordon Lightfoot as "that drunk musician", but listening to my albums made him a lifelong fan. What a treasure, and what a perfect song. So few reactors catch the sheer viciousness of the lyrics... "Just like a paperback novel, the kind the drugstores sell." Ouch.
Lightfoot was also cherished by his peers, many of who recorded more than one of his songs. Bob Dylan, for example, has been quoted as saying that Lightfoot died “without ever having made a bad song”, adding that every time he listened to one of them, he “wished it would last forever."
Late gradeschool. Late at night, listening to this beautiful song coming from the little clock radio at my bedside. Not really understanding it, but simply enchanted by it. He's been moving me with music for many decades.
Thank you again for such a great thoughtful reaction to a great song. This is my favorite Gordon Lightfoot song. I reconnected with this song and was playing this video over and over last winter and wasn’t able to find enough reaction videos to it and now, you came along and did one ! Very validating ! Thank you !
You'd be amazed at the number of artists who have covered this song. CBC music put together a montage of just a few of them. It's worth a watch to see the variety and styles.
That was one of Gord’s most personal songs…..about the breakup of his first marriage. Geordie has a very deep rabbit hole. Bob Dylan considered Gord one of his favourite songwriters. His songs have been covered by loads of artists. Johnny Cash, Glen Campbell, Elvis, Barbra Streisand and more. If you get around to listening to “ Sundown “ it’s about the girl who broke up his first marriage.
My favorite Gordon Lightfoot song! Another great male singer from the early 70's is Harry Nilsson. Check out his "Without You" and "Everybody's Talking" from the Midnight Cowboy movie.
This is a perfect song! I recommend you listen to Rick Beato's analysis of this song on his UA-cam channel and his What Makes This Song Great. There is a lot to this song. The guitar fills by Red Shea are pure inspiration and perfections!
OH WOWWWW, YOU HAVE ELTON'S ( CAPTAIN FANTASTIC AND THE BROWN DIRT COWBOY ) ALBUM UP THERE :) , YOU SHOULD DO THE BIG HIT OFF OF IT : SOMEONE SAVED MY LIFE TONIGHT OR EVEN THE TITLE TRACK, IT'S HIS AND HIS BEST FRIEND ( BERNIE TAUPIN ) , IT'S THEIR MULTI PLATINUM AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL ALBUM GIB, OUTSTANDINGGGG OF COURSE! :)
This song has been covered 200 times, including by Barbara Streisand, Glen Campbell, Johnny Mathis, Olivia Newton-John, Liza Minnelli, Johnny Cash, and Neil Young. It was also ripped off by the man who wrote Whitney Houston's hit, the Greatest Love of All. Light foot sued and had the composer, Michael Masser, dead to rights to the tune of 24 copied bars, but he decided to settle for an apology when it appeared that Houston was taking the brunt of it.

Definitely Sundown has to be the next song by Gordon you listen to. It completes the trifecta.
Gordon could sure write good love songs. One of the best I ever heard is called “ Beautiful”.
My late husband chose Beautiful as our wedding song.
Don Quixote is great. But then Early morning rain is great too. But song from a winters night from the Gord’s gold albumin is awesome!! And the list goes on…
If you haven't yet, you should check out his Canadian Railroad Trilogy.
Amazing historical story, masterfully told.

Bob Dylan presented his Canadian lifetime achievement award. Said at one point Gordon was his favorite songwriter.
He was amazing! Saw him live in his later years and put on an amazing show.
☮️💙💙💙🔥rest Gordon!
This is a beautiful, immersive musical journey.

A marvelous musician & storyteller, whether it's someone else's story or his own. Sad nostalgia in this one. Thanks for your reaction.
Picture it, America, February 1971 and playing on the radio "If You Could Read My Mind" by Gordon Lightfoot. Priceless 🤗⚾
Late gradeschool. Late at night, listening to this beautiful song coming from the little clock radio at my bedside. Not really understanding it, but simply enchanted by it. He's been moving me with music for many decades.
Man, I just loved this song when I was so very young! Thanks for taking me back!
This song is absolutely amazing ❤
This was a very sensitive and intelligent response. Well done.

SUNDOWN is such a beautiful song by him…. Hopefully you will do it soon!!!!! 🤗
Another classic Canadiana sound; Gordon was always on our radio dial.
Great use of this song in the movie, Wonderland.
Boy you pump these videos out good stuff
Carefree Highway is a great tune
You do the best reactions of Lightfoot, you get him
I suggest "Canadian Railroad Trilogy" next

I found myself listening to this over and over. That's when I knew I was going to get a divorce.
Aww that's rough. I hope everything went all right for you two after it was all said and done
It’s about staying in a relationship too long
He wrote this song while going through his divorce.
