You guys did a wonderful review, I used nvg's in the army and wanted a pair with out spending thousands of dollars and I have to say you 2 sold me. Thanks for the review and the time you put into it.
Thank you for the comment. We have some other follow up footage - just need time to edit it. These binocs work good for general viewing. Don’t expect much for high quality optics but they are good out to 500’ or so at night. During daylight you will find better luck with regular binocs. Thanks!
Sup Buddy! This was an awesome review. I was just on Amazon and saw your review. It's awesome how you planned out having a field test and explained it. Cheers! Shu.👍
Thank you very much. I still enjoy the binocs but they are more recreational. They won’t beat a higher priced set of binocs for viewing detail. But for general night vision they work ok.
@@jebert34 I haven't found anything that can match the NVGs we used in the Coast Guard helicopters. I figured these would be good for some of our adventures camping when we hear something moving in the woods. I contacted the manufacturer about getting one of the elite models, Hopefully, they'll hook me up with a deal.
@@LivingFree365 for sure! Nothing can probably meet that level of NV (at least for normal consumer levels). That would be very cool if they can hook you up! Thanks for the note. All the best!
What an A+++ difference with all the other reviews suggesting what is the best 5 or ten of 2019/20/21 binoculars who "bravely" read what is on the box and show photos from marketing flyers with no footage at all. Even with footage your methodology is so much better.
@annaray Thank you very much for your kind words. We do our best to create as much of an unbiased review as possible. We do not except any payment for our reviews and share practical experiences (good or otherwise) to help others learn from our experiences and often - our mistakes :) We have a lot of footage coming on this piece of gear in parts II and III soon. Look for those videos coming shortly.
In Star Wars episode 4, I saw Luke using his color electro-binoculars to search for R2-D2 when he escaped and also at the Tusken Raiders, and it seemed interesting that the digital binoculars of today looks remarkably similar to the ones in the Star Wars movies. I am looking forward to affordable color night vision binoculars when they are made available.
Hi guys, Great review. You focused mainly on how well it does at night. How well does it work when taking videos and/or photos during the day light hours? Thanks.
Thanks for the comment. They are not ideal for a binocular replacement. The video aspects are pretty grainy and to be honest a phone would do better. They are pretty much a low cost alternative for nighttime viewing in my opinion. Fun viewer though and definitely works for low cost options. Hope this helps!
@@jebert34 oh i just realized they have a few different types of night vision with this company for the price of this one it's not bad really i was looking at their 400 dollar set up thinking this was the same one, i might get this for up close stuff, thanks again
Thanks for the comment - no, not to the eye. Some cameras and night vision gear and whatnot could pick up IR but to the naked eye no, you can’t see it. It’s a cheap little device to see what’s going on at night but if you are looking for a high end piece of gear for regular optics you will be served better by checking out other high-end optics. This is mainly recreational, but it works.
Thanks for the Review. I already have this exact model coming and I have been impressed with the reviews in both day and night conditions, especially dusk dark performance without the infrared on. Which brings me to this question. Did you possibly do the test with the daytime cover over the infrared emitter? With your limited range, it just seemed like there was an issue holding back the usual performance of these reaching over 1,000 feet. Or like you said maybe it was the bright snow. Good video. I like ones with actual usual use of a product.
Great comment - I, too, am impressed with the dusk performance without the luminator on. The binoculars really pull in extra light in dusk conditions. This might be another test I can set up. I’d also like to try to get back out and maybe conduct a part II test without snow. In the view finder we could see at 1000’ but just barely and really only large objects. At 1250’ and greater we could not see anything. However, the reflective properties of snow could have made an impact. In the end, for most people I suspect their footage needs would be under 500’ and for those distances, object identification works quite well for detailing small things (people, animals, etc). Thanks a lot for the post!
@@jebert34 Thanks for the reply. I will be using these and a Sitemark Wraith Infrared scope mounted on an AR15 .224 to try my luck at night hog hunting. You are right, 500-600 feet is likely max range using for hunting game. Wouldn't want to accidentally take a cow out at 1200 feet, haha. Can't wait for a dusk review if you do it. Great idea.
That sounds like a great set-up! I’m jealous! I’ve been hog hunting during the day but haven’t tried at night yet. These binocs should at least help you in seeing what you need to. Let me know how it goes! Good luck and have fun! 😁 I’ll see if we can do another field test with snow off and around dusk in another month or so.
You are welcome. We have some additional content coming but summer is so full of work. Hope to edit all of the other work in coming months. These are decent for the price but don’t expect high end optics.
Thanks Tom for the comment. We have some additional footage from some other tests on this set up we want to get out soon. In short, don’t expect this gear will function like high end optics but it will provide fun, casual night vision up to about 500-750’ for people sized objects. If you are seeking higher end optics, I would recommend checking out all options. For me, I use mine for general purpose night viewing time to time as I do not require high end optics. I hope it helped! Thanks again. Best wishes.
Are these good enough for observation within 50 yards? And how long does the battery last? Also will they illuminate area if no illumination is out at all IE no moon or lights.
Hey James - In short, yes. I’ve had reliable viewing of 500-750’. Will work in dark-out, yes. In my video there was very little external light. Battery use will depend on type and if you are running video and higher IR settings all the time. I’m not sure but might venture an hour or two of heavy constant use. Might be an FAQ on website. Anyone else reading this have an experience?
@@jamessmith9622 Hi James - on the model I have the batteries consist of AA’s. Other models might offer rechargeable platforms. I’ve had to replace my batteries once. I use them regularly but for 5-10 mins at a time. I use lithium’s in mine and I have a handful of hours on them at they are going strong. I’m not always running high demand functions though. That might be a good question for the company or for others who have some documentation.
@@jamessmith9622 sounds good - reach out if I can help. These are nice little units. Don’t expect performance like $3k professional optics but for tinkering around and basic occasional uses they are fun to have.
Thanks for the note. This device is more or less a higher powered IR trail camera with a viewer. It does a decent job for causal night viewing but I wouldn’t use them for regular binocs during the day or whatnot. It is just a low-end option for night viewing and that’s about it. I’m not sure what you mean by standard - if that’s regular night vision like military use? I’ve not used any nvg (night vision) military type so I don’t have much to compare to there. I’d feel comfortable in saying military standard nvg would outperform these though.
thanks for the review, im looking for a good set of NV binos. I live on the border in Texas and have illegal's immigrants constantly coming onto the property. might pick these up.
Thanks for the comment. Oh man...sorry to hear you have issues. These will work best for general night vision. To be up front, these are not high end $3,000 NV gear but they do a decent job in picking out objects sub 500’. They are a hobby type of gear I’d say. During the day I prefer other binocs. These I used for general NV without top of the line expectations. The clips I used in the the video were exactly what it was like at night and the clips were unaltered. As long as you can keep the binocs mostly still and without a ton of zoom, you will probably enjoy them for documenting movement of your issues. The mini SD card for recording might also come in handy. Good luck and thanks for comment.
