Nah... Spit out the Bone is a banger all round which can compete with their best work from their classic albums.... This sounds more in line with Moth into flame and Hardwired together, which I also like from the Hardwired album
@Benjamin The first song of the album doesn't mean this is the first song written.
This song followed by Lux Aeterna are my absolute favorites on this CD and I know we haven’t heard everything. James sounds fantastic, Kirk’s shredding is crisp, Lars drumming sounds great, Rob sounds as energetic as ever. The whole band feels “in tune” and firing on all cylinders.

Don't mean to be rude, but anyone who ever touched a guitar or has a decently grown musical ear knows how Kirk's recent solos are pretty much total garbage.. just random pentatonic shit with no drive and a short melody in between...FOR LIKE 10 SOLOS ALREADY...All same licks, same shit..it's a trainwreck pentatonic jerkfest..
Older Kirk solos are some of my favorite ever! So I say all this with a very disappointing tone..
(Although I will say..this solo is better than anything he's "done" on the first 3 songs)

Loved Kirk’s main solo. Not just a wah fest and was melodic.

LOVE your Metallica reactions! It's a treat to see you light up with excitement as you dissect and enjoy the song. Song is amazing, Kirk's solo is fantastic, and the harmonizing! The lyrics speak volumes while the music is a literal embodiment of 40 years of shred still going strong.

Ride the lightning got hatred for having a ballad. Justice for all as well for having a « commercial song » because of One. First video people got scared of them becoming radio friendly and… they were kind of right because the black album was all about being mainstream. And after that it became common place to bash Metallica for whatever they released. Guess what? The real shit came almost at the same time as UA-cam and its keyboard warriors. Never made Metallica stop being themselves and release music them only wanted to create. I still think as of today it always was a very loud minority, that controls whatever everyone thinks. Just like it takes ONE dictator to control efficiently hundred of millions of people.

The opening chords reminds me of part of Halo on Fire... then the first fast riff was like Hardwired.....kick ass tune
I like the song a lot. I really REALLY loved Hardwired, and so far I still think back to how GREAT Hardwired is, but this song definitely helped sway me into this albums feel a bit more. I don’t think the sound is as crisp as HARDWIRED, but I can’t wait to hear the whole album and go from there! GREAT track this one!!!

Awesome track! Interesting they open the album with a faster longer track. I remember Lars was saying they almost put Spit Out the Bone as the opening track on hardwired. Also makes you wonder how the last song on 72 seasons will sound. They traditionally like to end their albums with faster songs. Metal Militia, Damage Inc, Dyers Eve, My Apocalypse, Spit Out the Bone etc.
