I am a retired volunteer firefighter you need to understand that a fire truck only holds about 500 gallons of water. When the hoses are fully charged they will empty the truck in less than 2 minutes. Any bend in the hose will block the flow pressure by 50% and people will die and property will be destroyed. You are illegally parked they will break your windows then you will get a ticket for illegal parking and your vehicle will be towed. It’s not the fire department’s fault that you parked illegally

Some ppl just never used a hose before apparently, and never learned that kinks in a hose blocks water pressure. How they didn't know this is beyond me, but apparently they don't.
Just realized I've never parked my car in front of a hydrant in my life. Never had to think about it because literally, it's the essence of common sense.
What's that, some kind of food? But in all seriousness... "common sense" is becoming far less "common", anymore. I know people at work who back out of parking spaces ON FORKLIFTS, who don't bother looking to see if anyone's behind them. A forklift weighs more than your car, what do you think's going to happen if you hit someone with it because you're not paying attention. I've also hit people because they weren't paying attention... and they get upset with me, when they backed into me, who wasn't moving or tried to swerve out of the way.
No, it changes colors based on what city you live in. In Chicago, it’s yellow, if they paint the curb at all. I live in a neighboring city, and they do not paint the curb anything. Until today, I had no idea other places paint the curb red.
Maybe the main concern should not about the colour it was painted of, but check where you park, and if there's is an hydrant beside your car, do not park there, no matter what colour the kerb is painted of...

I love how, yet again, the person breaking the law is somehow perceived as the victim. When did personal responsibility become a bad thing in this country?
I don’t live in the states so I may be wrong in saying this, but it’s definitely a similar situation you’d get here in the UK. I think an element of it is that people are incapable of taking responsibility for their wrongdoings, and heaven forbid if they ever needed to say “sorry”. So, rather than accepting their mistake and rectifying it, they try to shift the blame onto someone else. (e.g. “yeah I know I did this thing, but THEY did a worse thing look” and pointing fingers at the firemen instead) It’s really tragic that people have become like this. It’s not everyone of course, but it’s a high enough percentage for it to be a real problem.
@@Lizzie-uf3dt You are exactly right! When I was a street cop for a west coast city we ticketed cars parked in red zone fire hydrant spots. Problem was that the fine was less than the cost of parking in one of the lots, so it was cost effective. I ticketed one particular BMW several times over a few months. One day there was a fire and the fire department took out the drivers and passenger side windows and ran the hose through the front seat of the car. I ticketed the vehicle at the fire departments request and I might add, the hose through the mans car was the very last hose removed and that was several hours after the hose was connected. I never saw the car parked there again.
@John Emerson. I guess the owner finally realized that it WASN'T cost effective to park in front of a fire hydrant after having to replace BMW windows!

I had to chuckle over cost effective parking comment because you reminded me of when I was in college, the parking lot was like $10 a day for parking, something like that anyway. The ticket for parking without paying was just over double the cost to park, and it wasnt even a guarantee you would get fined. A friend of mine used to see how far he could push the system, he would park like half in a ditch, half in the parking lot in his truck, or half on a median half in a spot for a motorcycle, just ridiculous, and any time he got a fine for not paying or parking improperly, he just paid for it, no problem. I always paid for parking, but my friend made a sport out of never paying for parking.
So we had a similar situation here in Utah. Some guy parked in front of the fire hydrant just like this dude, but instead of breaking his windows like they did here the firetruck just pushed his car out of the way by ramming it from behind. And to add insult to injury not only did he get rear ended and not paid for it, but he had to pay to have the firetruck’s front end fixed and got a ticket for parking where he shouldn’t have in the first place 😂😂😂

The building I used to live in had a fire hydrant in front of it. I always shoveled around it thinking the few minutes it would take for firefighters to locate and dig it out could mean the difference between someone living or dying. The last time I shoveled it out was February 17, 2021. That evening, a fire started in the rear of the building. The upper rear apartment and attic sustained significant damage, but the rest of the building was spared. I lived in the lower front and ran a home business there. Fortunately I was able to salvage 95% of my inventory, and personal belongings. That amounted to about 50k. What I did lose was from water damage, not fire. With no insurance, I literally came very close to losing everything. The fire marshal told me without a doubt that having the hydrant clear made a difference regarding how far the fire was able to spread. All those hundreds of times digging out that hydrant over the years, always thinking it could save someone's life. Never once did I consider it could be my own. So yeah, if you have a hydrant near your house, don't park in front of it and do your part to keep it clear in the winter. It could be your life it saves.

To the "they wouldn't get away with it if it were my car" guy...what if it were your house on fire? Would you let someone get away with impeding firefighter efforts? That anyone would be that stupid is honestly frightening

Do you have any tickets left in your pocket? If yes, send me the ticket I'm sending it over to that guy.
I always paid for parking, but my friend made a sport out of never paying for parking.
you gotta love a bit of Karma in some random dickheads life xD
So we had a similar situation here in Utah. Some guy parked in front of the fire hydrant just like this dude, but instead of breaking his windows like they did here the firetruck just pushed his car out of the way by ramming it from behind. And to add insult to injury not only did he get rear ended and not paid for it, but he had to pay to have the firetruck’s front end fixed and got a ticket for parking where he shouldn’t have in the first place 😂😂😂

DON'T PARK IN FRONT OF A FIRE HYDRANT.
It takes a true narcissist to park in front of a fire hydrant, and then get mad at the firefighters for trying to save people's lives, because you're too self-absorbed to park somewhere else.
People that are saying they should've bent the hose at an angle so close to the source have clearly never worked with a garden hose let alone a fire hose.
Doesn't take genius to see how much water comes out those hoses. For people to say bend hose instead of shaming person made me lose faith. Shows who was never handed garden hose when they were kid. . Thats sad too. .
It was going to be too much work to put the hose under the car...
@@gregjones3660 putting it under or over the car can lead to sharp bends and kinks in the hose that restrict the flow of water. It's literally shown in the video.
@Bob Saget or don't park where you're not supposed to park..

"They wouldn't have got away with doing it to my car."
I don't know...I feel like firefighters whose job it is to run into buildings weighed down by equipment, and slinging possibly unconscious dead weight over their shoulders to carry out, all while surrounded by fire, are one of the last groups of people you should be starting trouble with.
Especially in an emergency situation the latitude of what they're allowed to do is greatly increased. In certain situations fireys have more authority than police.
