Pyruvate dehydrogenase complex

This biochemistry lecture explains about the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex and the role of pyruvate dehydrogenase complex in oxidative decarboxilation that leads to the synthesis of acetyl Co a from pyruvate. This process of pyruvate dehydrogenase complex takes place in cytosol. There are 3 enzyme complex of pyruvate dehydrogenase complex that are involved to convert pyruvate into the acetyl co a that will be inserted into the krebs cycle.

Is pyruvate dehydrogenation is same as that of oxidative decarboxylation of pyruvate ?

Dehydrogenation means removal of H+ ions which means oxidation. Pyruvate dehydrogenase is an enzyme responsible for converting pyruvate to hydroxyethyl TPP by removal of a carbon group from Pyruvate (decarboxylation). Decarboxylation of pyruvate is the initial step, which leads to the formation of hydroxyethyl TPP.
