Raised my son listening to this song and glad to say he is a gentleman when it comes to women. He gets his heart broken but I can at least say he treats women with love and respect
So why don´t women treat him with respect in return? Why do they keep running over his heart like it is trash ? A mother can not teach a son how to become a real man, a father can not teach a daughter how to become a real woman. That is why a son needs a mother AND a father.
Didn't like this guy 20 years ago but now I'm 48 I know what a fool I was!!!!! This guy is awesome, love this version and George's .. such talent ... How did we end up with the X factor? Makes me sad !!!
my daughters dad dedicated this to me after we broke up, said I glowed being the mother of his only child. we were high-school sweethearts and the best of friends 25 years later. such a beautiful song.
The lyrics are amazing, still love him after all these years. An amazing lyricist and musician. George's voice lends itself well to this song, Nobody has a voice like George...two very different renditions so cannot be compared. Both excellent in my opinion.
Larry Carney Jr. Is he? I love him as well. I love your About / Story here. It is so cool. I wrote a corrosive article in 2012 because of people at Tumblr who just hit like and did not read my "about"s and I was not tlogging, I was doing web art on SPs. It was so frustrating... ==^|.||^=♥♞♥=^||·|^==
Kika Pott - I believe he is still recording , however he's most likely on an independent label if not his own label at this point in his career . Thank you ... I dig your *About* page as well . What is _SP's_ ?
Larry Carney Jr. Social platforms. Sorry I say this all the time. I thought TT D'Arby had stopped singing...I have to look for it. Thanks for the compliment on my *About*. :) I don't follow anyone without reading abouts, actually.
@@Modernaire Absolutely agree with everything you said. TTDs version has a special quality, brimming with feel and emotional. No one could do this song better, in my opinion. Peace
I worked on this track, and I'm very, very proud of it. Stands up what, 20 years later? Nice one Terence and nice one Spike, mixmaster supreme. Check out "Neon Messiah" and also "Read My Lips (I Dig Your Scene)" from the later album "Vibrator". "Teggsy" was/is a very, very funky man.
It had to be politics that never gave this brother his acclaim. I will assume he was giving Prince(who I love also) a run for his money? This dude was awesome, a songwriting genius and that raspy voice was pure soul. Thanks Matthew Vaughn for your contribution.
hey bro, I'm a musician from Detroit and I've been following you sense the 80s you are an awesome influence in your story telling put to music and i will always be a fan of yours
When you have a daughter you understand this song even more. George has done a good job with this introducing it to another generation, however Terence will always be Terence for me.
I just listent to this in hopes that it spands the nation purely because young men and girls need this to understand about being kind to one another in the middle of the storm of discovering what you do comes with consequences and how you must own what you do even if you know right from wrong and they are just on the road of feel good for now moment.
Beautiful words Tiffany, you have inner and outer beauty to have the ability to say such a profound message. So much hate in the world and this is such an emotional and moving song from a quality artist. We have a teenage daughter and we can relate to the lyrics of love and the loss of young love. Best wishes.
A song that’s come to mean a lot to me. It’s easy to think that you have the upper hand in a relationship. But maturity doesn’t equate wisdom. You grow older and you sometimes realise as I did that when you walked away you thought that you had the upper hand emotionally. But as the years pass you realise that she taught you more than what you thought you taught her. And you still miss her terribly.
This has always been a favourite of mine. Still have the CD single. This versions kicks GM's version no contest. Saw TT do an insane 3 hour gig at the Apollo in Manchester, a brilliant under rated artist. Go back to your old name man!
We waited for a long time for George to sing a new song. I must say I wish he had an original song to sing. George does not need to do covers, and we as fans want to hear some original music. George please trust yourself, and just go with your heart, and make some magic that we all know you can make.
Oh just give him a chance; probably writers' block, get over it. The longer you wait for it, the better it will be. In the meantime he has great taste in covers..
einc70 : Exactly!! I just found out George Michael did a cover of this beautiful song. It's on his "Symphonica" CD, which I'm ordering soon. :)) I had no IDEA Terence Trent D'Arby sang this first. Very nice.
Absolutely beautiful song. I bought TTD's album in 1992/3 when it came out and was mesmerised! Now I have a 10yr old daughter it is even more poignant. Thank you TTD for a beautiful song.
Don't understand why there was so much fuss about this song when it was first released?? Beautifully written and to the point about how Fathers feel and worry about their daughters. To the mother's also 😉
I've loved this mesmerizing tune since 1993-94... But boy ... Never watched this mesmerizing tune before. After 30 years... wondering why it took me wo long... And so just finished watch the clip now... What a memory. I bet this song has a special place for Sananda. Thank you, man! Hope you find peace within you. 💫🌟
he is #not #forgotten... his music 🎶 is well remembered today having enough longevity through time. Those types of natural Vocal talents can not bet forgotten. The fact he didn't stayed in the spotlight has probably to do #more with the fact that he maintained his true artistic attitude humble without following or entering the celebrity life. His artwork is very distinctive.
This song is on the soundtrack of my life and Sananda is my angel male singer-songwriter and artist. As a singer-singwriter, a proud husband and father of a lovely Daughter and a gentleman Son this song always males me cry.
Just now hearing this song Feb 2016 and it's Amazing in it's simplicity. I lost track of Trent D'arby over the years but this is great. I'm wondering what else is in his treasures........
Until you have lived this song it's just a beautiful piece 🥺. This songs breaks my heart Everytime I hear it....sometimes you have to do it at the cost of losing a part of your soul.
I heard this song many years ago and loved it instantly. Kind of like meeting someone you instantly fall in love with. I haven't listened to it much, and I have to this day never seen the music video. Loved it. They should make a movie like this, and have Terence Trent D'arby sing it again for it. Mr. D'arby has a few really great songs that aren't well known, and the other one I recommend listening to is "Frankie and Johnny" - from the movie with the same name. "Let Her Down Easy" is still my favorite song though...
In my forever humble opinion a truly wonderful masterpiece. Im a Biggie n 2pac kinda guy at times and to most peoples amusement stuck in the 90s lol but even i appreciate such mastery of music. A broken heart from a time long long ago Im a much older man now, though even today i wonder how she is I only hope her life is full of love That is all i wish Peace ✌
TTD Best song, and he's head some bangers, but this is another level, I loved it when it was released and now It means even more as a father to 2 daughters.
My mum played me this when I was in 17, two years into a four year relationship with my first love and he broke my heart in so many ways, my mum knew it was coming. I completely forgot the lyrics about her daughter. I have a daughter now too who fills my heart with joy and I still remember the pain of that heart break. I hate the thought of her little heart breaking one day. First love dies hard ey!
I'm a grown ass man but the purity of this song combined with Terrence's vocal perfection damn near brings me to tears. What a song.
i cry like a baby...
being a man means that you can show you have emotions!
Damm ... havent heard this for 30 years ... found it on an app ... heard its lyrics and melody ... am bawling like a baby

An underrated titan of a song.
Agreed, timeless classic I think

How did this guy not become an all time great?!? Phenomenal talent.
Because of Michael Jackson selfish ass who didn't wanna see anybody else shine.
he is,
He explains in an interview how he and Prince were both on a mountain..and he was the one thrown off the mountain..figure of speech of course.
absolutely xx

This song is deep. This is true life. Be kind to her.
George Michael is an amazing singer and his version has some lovely touches; but come on, there will only ever be one Terence Trent D'Arby.
Sorry, but George Michael's version is so much better, it has so much more feeling, so many more vocal colors. Terence's rendition is simply...cold.
