It's just as effective if you put the crystals around the bowl. From what I read, putting crystals in the bowl is a big no no.

Yes, so the master here should know better. You NEVER but crystals in a signing bowl. The high frequency vibration is horrible and damaging to the crystal. It should be on the outside of the bowl.
