    I'm so glad I watched your video. I've been giving my bowl a hard whack right on the rim and when it stops vibrating I'd do it again. I thought that's how it was done! I'm glad I never broke it! Thankyou!

    Not I know why I stopped playing my new singing bowl. I wasn't doing all the things you are suggesting. I really didn't like the sound it made so I put it away. I just figured it was a bad singing bowl and maybe I got ripped off. I certainly wasn't doing everything in this lesson. I love your teaching and I'm inspired to try it again.

    • @AndreaCortez
      @AndreaCortez  Рік тому +1

      It is not always easy to find a good bowl, so don't feel bad! I recommend starting with a lower pitch because it is more soothing, once you have more than one bowl you can integrate higher notes. Also the mallets are a HUGE part of making a nice sound. The suede mallets on the frosted crystal bowls sound noisy and gritty. I recommend the silicone mallet to get a smooth sound. ☺

    Hello Andrea how are you? Just wanted to say What a Beautiful video and how much I enjoyed watching it. I am new and recently purchased a Crystal sound Bowl in the c-note in the 432 Hertz, I would like to buy a low sounding bowl and wondered what notes would go good with a B note.
    Thanks so much all the joy happiness and Wellness in your journey...🙂🙃🙂😉💖

    • @AndreaCortez
      @AndreaCortez  2 роки тому +3

      Yes a G would sound nice with your B, you have to make sure that you get 432 since you already have this tuning. Also you have to make sure they are similar to perfect pitch not too sharp or too flat. A low bowl size would be around 9-10". You also want to select a lower octave. You can ask the store you are purchasing from but I also do give private classes to learn, thank you for watching ! 🙏🏽

    Very nice sound. I bought a 10 inch 432 hz F bowl. I want to buy another 8 inch. I’m thinking A (higher) or C (lower). I like the sound of the smoky coloured one in your video-is that a C?

    • @AndreaCortez
      @AndreaCortez  2 роки тому

      Getting a C lower would be great. Make sure it is also 432 HZ tuned. My smokey one is an F#. It has a nice tone because it is a "crystal tones" bowl you can find them on SilverSkyImports. It is also citrine not frosted quartz so these have nice smooth tones.

    Thank you for this . Can you tell me the difference between using the stick and the lollipop mallet?

    • @AndreaCortez
      @AndreaCortez  2 роки тому +2

      Different mallets will produce different sounds on your bowls. Now I prefer to not use the suede stick mallets because there are silicone mallets you can buy now that play much smoother tones on frosted crystal bowls. However the suede mallets do still work better on the gemstone bowls that are not frosted. The ball mallet can be challenging to use when playing with both hands so I would recommend 2 silicone stick mallets if you are playing on frosted crystal bowls.

    Does sound therapy work primarily thru the body (not the ears)? If so, what is the difference between generating the sound thru a floor speaker versus a bowl or tuning fork? Are the sound/vibrations from a crystal or metal bowl somehow different from the sound vibrations coming out of a speaker?
    Also any thoughts on those $1500 authentic hand-made Tibetan ("healing" or "therapy" grade bowl) that uses 7 different metals.. versus the more affordable machine-made ("Tourist" grade) metal bowls? Crystal / Quartz bowls? I've read that all bowls are in C-key/major (260hz), and the difference is in the pitch (B, A, G, F, E, D, C : 100hz-900hz)? Is it best for someone else to perform the sound-therapy on you, or is it just as effective to do it one self?
    Do you have any recommendations for a meditation practice/program? I see so many interesting ones, but not sure which could help me. Do you know if any of these are any good?

    I'm also interested in Brain Stimulation devices that may help with sleep / meditation.. like the Omniperf NeoRhythm, Muse S , Fluxwear Shift, Somnee , Erable's Frenz , Fisher Wallace Circadia, Huso Home 2 (which I believe uses Binaural beats (Schumann Resonance : 7.83 Hz alpha/theta), inHarmony Cushion )

    • @AndreaCortez
      @AndreaCortez  Місяць тому

      Many good questions, I will answer some here...It is important to get a good quality Tibetan bowl or you will not get the resonance or overtones that are really beneficial. You don't have to buy antique bowls, you can get new ones for around $300-700 with lower deeper tones at isingingbowls.com Sound therapy works both through the ears and through the body. You will receive more of the physical vibrations to your body of course in person with instruments or with a resonating mat/table. Both ways can help regulate your nervous system and help to reduce stress. Speakers can be effective for sound therapy especially if you have stereo speakers and place them on either side of your body. Here is an example I posted www.patreon.com/posts/how-to-enhance-107703241
      And I have sound therapy recordings and meditations on my Patreon here that you can listen to: www.patreon.com/mindbodymusiccenter

    I thought the rubber mallet was for going around the bowl and the suede one for tapping the bowl. 🤔

      There is a better mallet than these I haven't posted, the suede I don't use at all anymore because it is too noisy. • @AndreaCortez
      @AndreaCortez  2 роки тому +3

      Hi! None of my bowls have shattered. But I have students that have had their bowls break while transporting them in the car. It's important to place them either in a case or upside down with padding when carrying them in the car. The frosted crystal bowls are pretty thick and the most durable ones. I have seen a bowl shatter from being played too loudly.

    • @AndreaCortez
      @AndreaCortez  2 роки тому +9

      Yes this is good, to make your own sounds for meditation. There are many types of meditations with eyes opened, like tai chi and qigong movements. So it really depends on what your goal is for your meditation. Yes if you close your eyes you can reach deeper relaxation states more easily. Playing several bowls at once with eyes closed is very hard But you can still calm your mind, relieve stress, and create a peaceful feeling while playing the bowls with eyes opened! Another idea is to play 1 or 2 bowls only and then you can play with eyes closed. I highly recommend playing with 1 or 2 bowls then adding voice with chant or vocal toning, this is a very powerful meditation. I may have to do a podcast on this and video. Good topic!

    • @AndreaCortez
      @AndreaCortez  2 місяці тому +3

      I keep 2 main bowls on either side of me and I sit on a cushion that keeps my spine straight. It is really important to not over reach for your bowls. Also playing a smaller set. Sometimes people try to play 7 bowls at once and that isn't necessary. The main bowl that I keep as a constant droning bowl is to my side so I don't have to sustain singing other bowls for too long at a time. Hope that helps!

    • @AndreaCortez
      @AndreaCortez  Рік тому +1

      Water in a crystal bowl will not damage the bowl. But the tuning for the pitch will probably not change much. You can put water in a Tibetan bowl but of course not to leave it that way as it is made of metals and will not be good for the bowl.

    • @retgehgsbh

      So I'm meaning if the typical range of my bowl is not 342 measuring it with something like a accelerometer as i add water I could tune it to 342 so I'm guessing this is not common practice. And thank you I appreciate your previous reply.

      @AndreaCortez  Рік тому

      @@retgehgsbh Do you mean 432HZ? This would be the pitch A at 432HZ. I recommend to buy bowls that are tuned to 440HZ. Using water to change the tuning is not effective for bowls

    • @AndreaCortez
      @AndreaCortez  3 місяці тому +3

      That is a G note in the 3rd octave. The notes matched to chakras is something that is a bit of a gimmick for marketing. Although sound can help chakra energy it is not accurate the way they have been matched to a musical note.

    Thank you so much! I may do some classes with you, but the only thing is I would prefer in-person, but I live in NY (unfortunately and fortunately 😁). But maybe some Zoom classes would be good to start. There are some places around me, but I love your page and style, and from this video I love your vibe.
    I have always been told by my mother that I have sensory processing disorder. I suffer from anxiety and panic, since 5th grade. Then some drug abuse really messed me up, on and off for years with the anxiety/panic. I am in the process of doing a lot of work on myself right now and sounds have always been so soothing and healing and calming to me. I believe (and I hope) that sound healing can be one of my answers to heal my mind, body and spirit. I want to buy some of these bowls.
    Do you have any suggestions where to buy them online? I also think I need some good deep sessions of sound baths being done to me, but I would love to learn how to do it myself so I can practice whenever and continue to heal.
    Thanks again! Peace and love -Paul

    • @AndreaCortez
      @AndreaCortez  2 роки тому

      Hopefully this information of whether they are tuned to 440HZ or 432HZ was provided with your bowls. This needs to be known when you purchase. But if you can't find that information you can buy a tuner, like a guitar tuner called a Snark. This tuner will adjust to either 440 or 432 HZ and you can check your bowls this way. I also offer online classes if you need help understanding which notes you have.

    Hi Andrea, I have a 10” 432hz F and would like to buy another bowl. I like the sound of E, but am not sure if it will go with my F. Does it matter if I buy a 8” E vs a 10” E?

    • @AndreaCortez
      @AndreaCortez  2 роки тому

      An A bowl or a C bowl will match better than an E. F and E will create a 2nd interval and dissonance. Unless you have other bowls to bring out harmony I would get an A or C

    • @AndreaCortez
      @AndreaCortez  2 роки тому

      The small in front is an A, then a G and C. Working with intervals is how to create harmony. So if you get a bowl you want to know which octave it is in to make the intervals.

      @@skyessencewithlove Hi Sky, 3 bowls is totally enough to create harmony. You have to be careful when adding bowls to what you have. They need to be in the same tuning, usually 440HZ or 432Hz most common . And you want to make sure they are in tune with each other, some bowls are very sharp or flat off of perfect pitch. I do offer private virtual class if you need guidance on that. Thank you for watching 🙏🏽

      These two notes will create dissonance when played together so I wouldn't focus on these notes together unless you are adding it to a larger set like with C, E, and A.

    • @AndreaCortez

      If you start with 3 bowls, I would start with C, E, and G. The G in the lower octave than the C will sound really nice. That is a G3. I would recommend getting them tuned in 440hz it is easier to accumulate and match other instruments. You want to build harmony in your instruments, so yes you want what sounds good but you need to also buy according to music theory of harmony.

      I must have missed this! I would recommend The Om Shoppe for buying bowls. Also 440 HZ and 432 HZ have equal benefits, neither is better. Although there is marketing proposing 432 is better, what is more important are the spaces between the notes and the harmony.
