For years, American Horror Story was THE show for horror fans. Packed with incredible actors, interesting stories, and oozing with horror, the anthology series soared up the ratings as one of the most popular shows on television.
As the years went on, that faded, and there are many reasons why.
So today, let’s talk about why the show fell off, and how it can course correct

My personal favorite seasons are Asylum, Hotel, 1984, Coven & Roanoke. The problem with AHS today is that its neglected and rushed. Ryan Murphy is doing a bunch of projects, the original writers & producers are gone. If they want to make this series successful again they need to get back some of the people that were involved in the beginning. I miss the writing, the storylines, characters and character development and suspense. Whats your thoughts on AHS Stories?
I only caught season one of Stories, and I thought it was OK at best. But I agree, the team running the show now does not care at all, and it shows
Here’s my take with AHS:
S Tier: Asylum, Coven, 1984
A Tier: Apocalypse, Roanoke
B Tier: Cult, Freak Show, Murder House
C Tier: Hotel, Red Tide
D Tier: Delicate, NYC
F Tier: Death Valley
I only enjoy or love the first nine seasons. I used to not care for Hotel but goddamn seasons 10-12 made me appreciate that season a lot more now because at least it felt like AHS and has soul. Red Tide was amazing until the finale which ruined the season for me, Death Valley is an abomination, NYC isn’t bad but it’s boring and not AHS, and Delicate was just disappointing because it’s just Emma Roberts getting gaslit 99% of the season. Kim Kardashian and episode 7 where it changed protagonist were actually the highlights of the season.
AND IT WAS SO DAMN PREDICTABLE. Like, no way Kim K is in on it?!? I had no idea!
I've only watched 1984 for obvious reasons I'm a slasher kinda guy 🤷🏻♂️

Very good points throughout. I used to LOVE Wed nights, because that was my AHS night, I'd watch it while recording then watch it a few more times lol. The last few seasons though...I let them record and kind of make myself watch them at some point, became a chore. And other than the Rosemary's Baby tie in, which didn't really tie in, the last season was a HUGE chore. Losing Lange was huge to the show, but not unsurmountable, and they did well even introducing a few new regulars that clicked. But I'm like you, I'm kinda iffy on the next season if I don't see some regulars return to the fold
At least bring Evan and Sarah back, ya know? I know Jessica is a pipe dream. That’ll never happen at this point. But we need some of the DNA back
I love your passion Nick! I didn’t know you loved it. I’m a big fan overall but yeah the quality has gone down hill. However I love Roanoke! It’s up there for me, along with Cult, and Red Tide(aside from the last episode) it should have been an entire season. I didn’t bother with Death Valley. Obviously I love the first 3 seasons too, but I don’t love Freakshow, and my least favourite series is probably Apocalypse. I quite enjoyed NYC but can see why others don’t. 84 was fun. I’ve not watched delicate simply because the story didn’t grab me, but i will give it a go
NYC is good, but it just doesn’t feel like AHS. I will say, I do not think you’ll like Delicate. Not a single person I’ve talked to, did lol
I made my first friends in college because we had a watch party for the first season of AHS, I followed it steadily up until Apocalypse ended. Seems like I got out at the right time.

I checked out with Coven. I like Stevie Nicks, but I don’t need a music video from her during the show. That wasn’t the only reason, but it was as you say “wonky” writing. Every season I watched had some moments that didn’t land with me. The show started becoming more miss than hit for me.
I will say I enjoyed the first two seasons, and the cast was always great.
Asylum is my favorite. That season is chock full of surprises, great writing, and great performances
I agree American horror story after hotel went down hill
I personally think that AHS overcomplicates the story, for the sake of having more episodes in the season. I got frustrated when watching 1984, when characters were getting killed off too early, and then coming back as ghosts. And nothing is different about them in ghost form either. At least make them a bit ghostly. Overall I think they should shorten the season to fewer episodes, because I think it's obvious in some seasons that they have nothing left, but need to make more episodes. I haven't seen all the seasons, but I think Freak Show was a fairly solid storyline.
I had the SAME issue with 1984. It was overall fun, but got wayyyyyy too messy
I'm on the third season of American Horror Story/ Coven and I'm about to start the Fourth Season/ Freak Show so I haven't got to when the show gets bad and maybe I'll keep watching till like Apocalypse or 1984 and then I'll stop because from what I'm seeing fans are saying Apocalypse or 1984 are the last seasons worth watching until the show really turns into garbage.

Watch coven, and then apocalypse. You have to watch coven first. Everything else, you can mostly skip lol

I stopped watched during Roanoke because it really sucked but I did watch Apocalypse. Haven't watched since. Coven is by far my favorite of everything I've seen by far!

Ryan Murphy takes on to many projects at once and like u said hasn’t been a big part of it and it shows and we all miss that stellar cast . They really are just running out of ideas it seems . First 3 seasons were solid and 4 was good for the cast . After that I tried watching the others and couldn’t get into them . I haven’t bothered to watch the last two seasons .
Do not bother with them. The last three honestly. There just no good
