    Phil Lord and Chris Miller might seem like a pair of goofs, but their writing advice is some of the best. Their writing prompts are the ones I return to most often, so I thought I put them into an easily digestible video. Whether you're writing a book, a screenplay, a blog, or a UA-cam video, Phil Lord and Chris Miller's writing advice is absolutely worth a try.

    The philosophy of 'No Bad Idea' is one that I hold near and dear to my heart. To me, there is no such thing as a bad idea, just an idea that hasn't become perfected yet.
    Awesome video!! Definitely gonna come back to this one many times~!!

    I know the quality over quantity fallacy has been part of the artistic process probably forever, but for some reason it got me thinking about physical vs. digital media.
    Like, this image of writing in a notebook and having to cross out or rip out mistakes- creating a museum of things you tried but didn't work. Compared to the image of typing at the computer and deleting everything you don't like- it's completely gone unless you intentionally create evidence that it was there.
    There is also, of course, the fear of writing in a notebook at all unless you feel you have a good idea, for fear you'll mess up the pretty notebook.
    But in any case
    This video inspires me to create some sort of museum of attempts. Instead of trying to think of ways to delete or throw away projects that didn't come out perfectly, finding a way to put them together in a folder or something both to help them feel "complete" and to learn from going forward.

    • @ItsGregKon
      @ItsGregKon  3 роки тому +1

      That's so true. A notebook of mistakes is a permanent collection of lessons learned. It's a lot easier to delete and forget about mistakes if they're in a digital medium. Save those drafts!
      I'm so happy to hear that this inspired you😊 I want to make more things that encourage creativity from everyone

    Hey, I'm from the future look I know they worked on a lot (Clone High revival not withstanding) of great stuff, but the recent allegations make this video's title ironic.

    • @iangreer4585

      Like, I'm currently mixed on my feelings right now. Knowing they have made incredible pieces of art is amazing, and their methods and the way the speak about it resonate with me.
      But on the other hand, I am heartbroken to hear about the recent exploitive-level conditions that these two are putting on for the animators and production staff. It's okay to have messy plans and ideas as long as it isn't harming others, and hearing these conditions seem to fit the bill for unfortunately, doing just that.

    Love the Barton Fink and Bob Ross references here! I think all of us could probably benefit from the idea of failing/learning fast - if we see ourselves and our style more as works in progress, there’s less room for negative self talk and BS. Thanks for making this!

    I just saw this in FB mate and wow this is fantastic. I really like the way you've described writing as intimidating at every page. It's big, and scary - sometimes. But it's also fun, and rewarding at others. Very relatable there. And I appreciate the positivity. The "no bad ideas" thing is really encouraging too as is the part where you talk about making continiously. Make something every week. That part was kind of something I needed to hear tbh. Making videos on my channel has become a weekly thing for the past year or so and I can see how muxh Ive improved and how my mindset on where I want my channel to go has changed... Anyway yeah, clearly this video is coming from a genuine place and I appreciate that. Really well done (and who the fuck disliked this like seriously?)
