I feel like I've been been feeling burnt out recently too. I just finished some courses I was taking and now I have free time. I think I will focus on recharging before jumping into another commitment.
I enjoyed this video and am glad the algorithm randomly recommended it to me. A good, sardonic wit especially. "Mid-to-Bad" ought to be its own genre. We can call it "Vita-Like RPG" as so many of these games and their design tropes originated on that platform (though single-player MMOs all spawned from the .hack games, I think?) As for my healing game, there've been a few, but the one that stands out to me is Akiba's Beat, another "mid-to-bad" type game that was a Tales of rip-off mechanically. I played it summer of 2017 when I was in the middle of a deep, deep depression where my entire sense of self was in question, and the entire game's premise of facing your true inward self just really hit home. It was just the game I needed in that very moment and it really helped me out.
Thanks for checking it out! I missed out on the Vita era, but I played a bit of Akiba's Beat on PS4 and had a good time with it. And man, I've had a lot of games hit me at just the right time like that. Those games stick with you.
You've proved soothing gaming videos can be made. As an upcoming 30 year old, I can say I'm playing more on Cosy cheerful games these days. Check Trails Of Mana Remake as well as wait for the upcoming Tales of Graces F remaster. For more chill vibes.
I saw Visions of Mana being discussed and I had to jump in. Secret of Mana way back on the SNES was my second ARPG after Zelda Link to the Past, but it was the game that stuck in my mind for being the prettiest collection of pixels I've ever seen, and whatever one can say about the Mana series since their particular sense of style is one that always makes me feel like I've witnessed a painting in motion. The prettiest most colorful JRPG worlds that completely forego realism for a painterly approach, and I will be there whenever they drop new games... provided they ever WILL again. Oh well. Looking forward to a future review, since I don't have much to say about the other ones.
Classic Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered. Combat is not difficult, and traversal and puzzle solving make time fly by. And even for a game with a fairly linear style, you'll be surprised by how many places you can actually get to.
I got the first Neptunia game in my backlog. Definetly interested in getting into it since the premise is both equally interesting and hilarious. (also can I just say, your voice is very soothing .😊)
Lost song is my favourite sao game too. There's a kind of sequel called accel world i think. Its a combo of two games licences but the gameplay is like lost song. Great vid 👍🙂
Lost Song is also my favourite SAO game, and one of only two that I've actually finished. The later games in the Atelier series (after they killed the time limits) are also, generally speaking, charming explore-a-thons, although how much you enjoy them depends a LOT on how much you like spending your time on the actual alchemy system. I can recommend the Cat Quest games if you like relaxing, low-effort RPGs. Beware of cat puns though. I only finished Cat Quest III a couple of days ago, within about two days of buying it. Strange as it may seem, one of my favourite "relaxation" games is Everyday Genius: Square Logic. It's probably ONLY fun if you have a fondness for arithmetic, though. It's sort of a cross between Sudoku and Kakuro, with a bunch of variations on the theme.
My comfort game is phantom brave its a disgaea spin off its so comforting to play and i love the gameplay music art and story of it i cant wait for its sequel 🥰
*Ni no kuni 2 mentioned* Me: hmm i should try actually finish it off, but playing jrpg on pc is kinda annoying. maybe i should get it on the sw- "not to play it on the switch" Me: oh okay ;-;
Haha, it was pretty bad on Switch 😭 You can play it with a controller on PC if that helps at all. Or maybe get it when it goes on a super sale on Switch.
You might like okami. I played it on the wii and i think the way you play it is best there thanks to the wii remote, but if that isnt your thing it is available on many other consoles too. This game has a beautifull traditional artstyle and a wonderfull soundtrack with great stories and a ton of japanese folklore. If you like traditional japanese stuff in general you will like it, maybe even love it.
I completed Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth Complete Edition and enjoyed it. Put like 300, maybe 400 hours. I no longer could tell as my hours reset when I transferred from my old Switch to my OLED model. BioShock has been the game I replayed a lot. Same with Portal. Something about replaying them again has been comfy to me. The last one I had been doing was playing Hogwarts Legacy on my Xbox Series X. Put like over 223 hours into it. I spent on flying my broom and riding on my beasts.
Dang, that's impressive. I've heard good things about BioShock and Portal, but haven't played them myself. I need to put more time into Hogwarts Legacy. I kind of forgot it existed 😅
Still have Ni No Kuni 2 in my backlog. Was never really sure if I wanted to play it, but you just made me want to give it a try. And also you wouldn't believe the amount of time I put into SAO Hollow Realization. I just skipped every cutscene and grinded and grinded and grinded...
I always feel like I should love the fake mmo genre (because I actually like to single player grind in ff14 online) but I seem to never be able to stick with those games. Maybe I need to try more games in the genre😅
If you like fake MMOs have you tried Xenoblade Chronicles X? Maybe it lost some MMO-ness since the server shut down (idk if it has pretense support yet) Regardless it's a bop

games that heal me: 30XX: basically the closest mega man X inspired game out there. (there are others but they tend to lean towards classic megaman more than the X/Zero series).
