    Glad you didn't give up on gaming 🥳. It's a great way to escape the worries of the world. I'm kind of in the same boat; 2025 has started off with a lot of bills so no fun money left. Seems like a perfect opportunity to join in your backlog challenge. Might not be able to fill out all of the squares though; friend bought my Baldur's gate 3 and I'm 170hrs in and just started act 3. Don't know what I'll play after that though. 🤔 Looking forward to pook art!

      @cutespooky 9 днів тому

      Yeah, I thought 6 would be reasonable, but that was before I became Nikki-pilled 🤣 Baldur's Gate 3 is chonky but so good. Don't worry so much about the amount/time limit. It's more about taking the time to show games you already own some love instead of buying new shiny stuff.

    I found myself having to effectively give up on the blog as well. I think the biggest issue is that, if you're not on some kind of algorithm-driven platform, then people aren't going to be visiting your site/blog for new content. It's a shame because I do enjoy writing, but it's clear that most people rely on platforms to feed them their content and having something like an RSS feed is not enough. So it's better to just focus on UA-cam these days. Out of curiosity, have you seen the Backlog videos of Daryl Talks Games? They're really excellent and are very relatable as someone that's been fighting their backlog and losing out to the hot new thing for well over a decade now. I like your approach to focusing small, just six games for the year, though I'm working on the more ambitious twenty-five-ish games. It should be easier than prior years, however, as I'll not be buying so many new games, and I actually bought far fewer last year than usual. (He says, ignoring the fact that Nintendo finally confirmed a new console is coming and with it, new games) I look forward to following along in 2025

      I watched "A Misguided Guide To Finishing Your Gaming Backlog," which was a big inspiration for the no-spend challenge that didn't go well loll. I see he posted another one about a month ago. I'll have to check that one out. I figured 6 would be reasonable, and I can always play more than that. I think it'll feel better to my brain than setting out to do a lot and not making it, because even if I finish the same amount of games, it can still feel like I didn't do enough if the goal is unreasonably high. I wish you luck on your 25 🤞 And yeah, I'm pretending I didn't see that announcement 🫣

    Good luck with the challenge. When it comes to gaming I'm just gonna wing it this year, though. I have other, more important priorities. Btw, if they eventually add multiplayer to infinity nikki, wanna play together every now and then? Just waiting for new updates on that game right now.

    From one gaming fan to another, I highly recommend focusing on few games to play rather than a buttload. I can see why you got burnt out. Personal anecdote - I bought a few bigbudget games on ps4 and only played those and felt GREAT! Thank went to PC to play random games and it felt awful. I've stopped playing demos entirely.

    • @cutespooky
      @cutespooky Місяць тому

      Yeah, I was surprised it was that many. 😅 I didn't get burnt out on it until I started trying to keep up with what I saw everyone else doing on UA-cam who I labeled successful. I am cutting back on incomplete games (demos, early access), and I've completely stopped keeping up with gaming news. I'm going to be digging more into games I already own too, because you're right, it feels better to put that time and energy into one game at a time rather than spread it thinly across a bunch.

    No wonder you were burned out by videogames this year, you played so many! Also, regarding valheim, I would recommend trying V Rising instead because you can tweak all those survival settings so you can even teleport with ressources and give you more strength or health, reduce the grind and make building stuff really cheap. And you can relocate your castle whenever you like. You can even remove durability. Dunno how they achieved that but this became my "cozy" game of the year. I'm only playing it singleplayer and it's so fun. (One last thing: looks like bravely default 2 will get nice presents after all.😂)

    • @cutespooky

      Omg did I put it on the wrong list? 😆 I was surprised it was that many tbh. I am a gaming menace though. It was really that period where I squished together all those reviews in a couple months, thinking that's what I needed to do to be successful, that got me the most. I've had my eye on V Rising, so that's good to know. I wasn't sure what the single player experience would be like.

    I assure you if you look through history you will find that things did not just become "idiotic" . The idiot lives deep in us all, in fact I find some one as obviously flawed as Asmongold excluding himself from that absurd. Pick any period you wish and you'll find an idiot , unimaginable horror , and astounding beauty . The scales are always rebalancing.

    • @cutespooky
      @cutespooky Місяць тому

      @radioactivegarbage_punk5645 Yeah, it's easy to blame society or whatever kind of person you want, but all criticisms like that are just a reflection of your inner world. But it takes humility to see that. It's a dangerous thing when someone believes themselves to be immune to the kinds of behavior they abhor.

  • @patrickwrites

    I feel like Asmond Gold's popularity outside of games was the result of some tech billionaire being called out for saying "I can make anyone famous for anything" - so he proved it. Then, I also think with political commentators, it's a bit like the ugly guys in adult videos - maybe it's easier to put yourself in their shoes if they're not amazing looking? Like the fantasy is that an average dude can be with a super hot girl. Well with political commentators the fantasy is some moron can be taken seriously without having to read anything. Asmond isn't the worst by any means, but I think it goes some way to explain the popularity. For me it's Daoism that aligns with your thinking here. Hard to find good information on it though, so many people selling so many things.

    • @cutespooky
      @cutespooky Місяць тому

      Lmao that analogy. I think his popularity is because a lot of people genuinely share in his beliefs and/or find what he says entertaining. I used to watch him a lot until he started focusing heavily on politics, but there are many who really enjoy that kind of thing. At least when it agrees with them loll. I'm not that familiar with Daoism, but I'm sure what I'm saying here is there too. It's not any specific religion/philosophy, yet I've found the truth of it in everything I've read about/studied. I'd say the things that contributed the heaviest to getting me to the realization were Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, and Carl Jung's work. But, it's not like you have to go with any of those to find it. My path was long because I was convinced the answer was to be found somewhere outside of myself. edit: I just realized Daoism is Taoism 😂 In that case, yes that helped me along the way too.

      @@cutespooky Yeah I just spell in a fancy way. For me, if you don't start with yourself, you can never know why you're believing something. How could know if you have good reasons or you're just following a trend without good reasons? Maybe there's nothing more you need to learn outside yourself, but either way, people should start with themselves.

  • @makikuma91
    @makikuma91 Місяць тому

    Tbh, I would never listen to a rich streamer that doesn't care for it's own evironment and health, talking about politics and ethics. Listening to anyone talking about heavy topics on the internet is a red flag for me, to make my own opinions and not listen to others. So, no. I don't think he is right. He just has a lot of time on his hands and that gets him thinking. People have always been idiots, more now than ever with "shorts" and "tiktok". I can't watch a single of those videos without thinking: "omg, put that damn phone away and just help that animal you so want to help, and don't record it's suffering for your own benefit, just so you can put in some dumb text over it later with sad music and text to speech." And people love that kinda stuff. They don't think, they just see "aww, look at that person being helpful." Like, I dunno. For me, the internet became the pool of idiocracy. And the more people consume it, the less they will think for themselves.

    • @cutespooky
      @cutespooky Місяць тому

      @makikuma91 I like listening to a variety of people talk. You know what's even more messed up is that some people fake the whole scene of the animal being in distress so that they can "save" it. But there are those who care more about their image and $$$ than being decent. But yeah, this has always been part of human nature. Tech/social media just amplified it. But social media also works to warp your perception of reality. One of the best things I did for my mental was deleting my socials.

    So...played the game plenty now. I somehow thought you would be way harsher here. To be honest it kinda overstays it's welcome by now, really struggling to finish it. I really enjoyed it so far. But now all the dungeons look the same, pacing is kinda weird and it just goes on and on with barely any differences. Just good old Persona formular now. Still kinda fun, though.

    • @cutespooky
      @cutespooky 2 місяці тому

      How far are you into it? My total playtime is 12 hours, and I'm pretty sure none of that came after this video. I felt that the gameplay was just starting to pick up around that point, while everything before that kind of dragged on. I did mention the sameness of the dungeons/environments in this video, so I'd imagine if I played longer and saw even more of the same, it'd weigh heavier. I know I was hoping to see more variety for sure. I only played enough of it for a first impressions video, not a full review. Since going through the changes that I have, I haven't returned to it, so I don't know if that says anything about it or not. I have been playing and enjoying other games, so maybe it does. I typically only make review videos for games that I finish, but that does leave out games that I don't feel like returning to or decide outright to drop, and maybe people would care about that just as much. I'm not sure. Sorry to hear you're not enjoying it as much as you were hoping though.

    • @makikuma91
      @makikuma91 2 місяці тому

      @cutespooky I'm about 60 hours in. And I think it's just not my kinda type of game anymore. I grew kinda tired of the always same procedure that the persona game go through. I found myself predicting exactly what would happen next, and that kinda was fun but also took out any reason to go on anymore. I'm starting to just love games more that let me explore and have fun instead of sitting around and watch cutscenes. Had that same stuff happen to me with genshin impact and bloomtown. Great story but I just enjoyed the exploring so much that I didn't care about the story at all anymore. Metaphor is great, though. Just...I dunno, it just stopped adding new mechanics midgame and then felt "samey".

    • @cutespooky
      @cutespooky 2 місяці тому

      @@makikuma91 Yeah, I think I'm going through a similar thing with gaming. Things I used to LOVE about them - super long playtime, lots of story, character-driven, familiar/repetitive gameplay loop (pretty much everything JRPG lol) - turns me away from them now. But things I used to shy away from - sandbox/creative type, exploration-heavy, shorter experiences - I'm loving. It's easier to make your own fun in them, since they're not as restrictive. That kind of openness used to make me uncomfortable. I'd be like "So... what am I supposed to do?" 🤣 & shorter games are great, because they don't come with a bunch of filler or overstay their welcome. Anyway, I get where you're coming from. I think it's why I haven't returned to Metaphor yet and hearing your take on it, I'm good with leaving it that way lol.

    you should definitely look at the margin area of gaming content which could be, arcade games, older games, 1/6 hour games, game jam prototypes, demo festivals like SAGE or NEXT fest, pax booths, itchio collections, short stories, short form ludo like point and clicks, adventure games, short visual novels. silly shit online, curiosities, flash games, platforms like playmate, fan revival projects like yume nikki and cave story online, chatroom type thingies like gikopoipoi. There's a thousand leagues deep sea of gaming paraphernalia and even art that occurs naturally just outside of the triple A market, most of it for free even. I find its a more sensible solution to engaging short term with games on a more challenging level that doesn't require expenditure or any consideration for media like IGN, most other youtube channels just make shorts or are retro game collectors, spread misinformation, strain the old games market, the works, in some nebulous attempt for not putting effort or time into games, or anything productive deriving of them. otherwise i definitely support this channel's trajectory towards random stuff.

I do check out recommendations I get though, and I swear, sometimes small weird games end up finding me lol. @@cutespooky i do realize my post took a more vitriolic turn nearing the end. I don't necessarily produce anything meaningful out of my gaming time, and if i do its entirely out of introversion, i do think its a huge space for culture to take place in, one that'd be a shame to omit from my leisure and that, sadly i don't have enough time for either, so i hope you're able to find some way to fit it into yours, in a way that is appreciable.

    It's so nice seeing you doing well, and I get you with the fact that families only tend to reunite at certain holidays only because it's the "usual stuff", and it feels like everyone is forcing themselves to consume just because it's the thing we have to do in these holidays (kinda sad tbh). And it would be interesting what games you might end up yapping about. Short/lesser known games are becoming more and more my cup of tea because they do feel like they were created just for the fun aspect. One that I've been enjoying lately is Webfishing, love the vibes and with friends it's nice.

    Cool cool, nice to hear you still like some videogames - it sucks when you lose interest in what you previously loved. This happens to me too - I start about 20 videogames for each I finish. But that's ok, like you said, you never know.

      Well, it's been a good opportunity to experience other things I love. Clinging to things like that causes a lot of issues. But, I am glad video games still have a place in my life for sure.

    I loved this video, for me the thing that got me out and fixed almost all the issues I had was practicing Kung Fu. Dropped a LOT of kilos, found my calling, and met a lot of great people and friends. We don't know each other but I can't tell you how happy I am for you. Hope you have a great thanksgiving

    I saw Crystar, immediately watched. It is a very, VERY interesting game, but that 34 hours might not be accurate. It pulls a thing where the first ending isn't the real ending, so you gotta replay chunks of it several times until you get the real ending. I did not manage to get the real ending because, as much as I loved the story, characters, and atmosphere, they were not good enough to overcome the level-design and repetitive combat mechanics. A shame. I'm curious, what would your thoughts on shorter games be? Ones that are maybe only 2-5 hours long? As an avid Metroidvania fan, I can think of a number that short. Just spit-balling as a sort of "if you have an afternoon available" kind of thing, not a "keep gaming". On the whole, I very much commend you on finding so many things to go out and rejuvenate yourself. It's very encouraging and just quite nice to hear. I do feel that people do not get out and connect with others enough, so I'm glad you're doing so and are encouraging others to do so as well.

      Ohh that's interesting, I didn't know that. I could see it getting repetitive, yeah. That time frame is pretty perfect. Anything I could finish in a single session if I was really feeling it, or over a few gaming sessions. And yeah, I really do hope people take what I say to heart, even if it's in little ways. Little steps overtime lead to huge changes, and I know how lonely everyone is feeling.
