If it comes to switch, I'll try it.

It's sad too because a lot of the dev's were veterans of the field. I bet they feel so stressed out having to relocate and start a new job somewhere else all over again. Not only that but the freedom you have in working in a smaller team is such a luxury that really the only way to get it is to work on indie games or be hired by a newly formed company. :(

Yeah, game development seems so stressful. Even if you're good at your job, if you don't make a mega hit, you could still lose your job.

The demo was fun. I'll get around to pick it up there's just too many other games out right now.

Sutch a shame, just bought it. I was looking forward to it playing it, but I saw the netease logo. All i know is like a Chinese company like tensent, so there is some awareness . I bought the game because I heard the devs try their best to keep the japanese mindset without any change made to for a broader market. I'll try my best to be motivated to play

Yeah, they're a huge company that deals with more than just gaming. Their ideals probably clashed too much with the developers in Japan. But, yes, the developers will be happy that you played the game they worked hard on!

Damn, that timing. Pretty sad to see a studio close. :c
Hopefully the IP gets picked up by another studio that will follow the artstyle.

Me too. The art style is one of the biggest draws of the game for me.

I think the ip is owed by square enix

you're right that the franchise isn't going anywhere; if the IP owners do the math and decide that another Mana game is a profitable venture, they'll shop it out to the lowest bidding studio.
    BUT
i support artists, not property hoarders. as gamers we need to stop assuming some level of quality just because it has a franchise slapped on it. AAA studios just want to cash in. they don't deserve your loyalty.

That wasn't a part of the original conversation, but I don't disagree with you when it comes to assuming quality or brand loyalty. I believe most gamers are aware of this by now with all of the L's AAA studios have been taking lately.

But didn't square enix work on that, too? Not to familiar with the story behind it. But were they just publishers then? Seems weird to me that a studio working with them just closes down like that. Either way, that is pretty sad. I'll buy it at some point.

Yeah, Square Enix was just the publisher, while Ouka Studios developed it. NetEase established Ouka Studios themselves, so ultimately it's up to them. Lol, it gets complicated when these big companies get involved 😵‍💫
