Agreed! I grabbed this link for a female friend and watching it realized I'd been loading them wrong (putting peanut butter over the whole yellow plate) and just thought that the catches were more difficult to set than the older metal bait models... I had no idea there was a sensitivity setting. Still worked though!

I was with the 95% of commenters who thought these things were impossible to set and use until I actually WATCHED the video. The presenter doesn't say it (and should) ... when you hook the metal wire under the yellow pad you have to LIFT UP ON THE YELLOW PAD. If you do this, it connects perfectly without accidentally snapping shut. I was leaving the yellow pad flat and of course the metal wire was not long enough to connect. Set 6 of these and within a night caught 3 mice using all I had in the house ... Laughing Cow cheese spread ... which probably has no protein and very little scent but apparently attracts mice! Try again ... these do work.

@@adastra6747 Absolutely didn't work. the yellow is too smooth for the stupid hook to latch into I can bend the damn plastic all the way back and finagle it a hundred times but the damn things won't stay at all no matter what.

      @echt114 4 роки тому +2

Yes, that absolutely does NOT help. I was doing that anyway. No matter where you place the end of the bar it does not hold, just snaps back. Obviously the plastic is angled so that it does work for a few people, so the manufacturing of it must be highly inconsistent.

These are more difficult to setup than the old style metal trap, however the mouse does not even get to the sampling phase before the trap closes in after the mouse puts any weight on the yellow paddle, much better design. Thriller to setup.

The comments are amusing. I was almost persuaded away from trying these, but at $5 for a four pack I had little to lose.
It took 10 seconds to figure out you need to tip the bait trigger up (simply tilt the entire trap back, no need to risk your fingers) for the bar to reach where it needs to.
They work well. I caught two mice first night I put them out. Easy peasy.

I've caught a few mice with these traps. I was sitting at my pc, earphones on, having a whiskey (as you do), when I heard loud SNAP, looked over where I set it, and the trap was upside-down, with these little legs scrabbling the air. Sooo satisfying! It was a lesson it only learned once, tho, 'cos that little sucker was pretty much decapitated when I threw it away.
Oh, and peanut butter? Secret weapon. Learned it from Wanted movie :)

For anyone having trouble setting these, this was the solution for me.
Hold the arm bar straight to where the bend at the end of the arm bar is pointing down. (like shown @0:36 of this video, but do not place under the yellow pedal yet). Then using your fingers, push down on the middle of the arm bar a bit to where you create just a very slight bend. Once you do that, then follow the steps as shown into this video, using the left side as shown @0:40. You'll still have to finagle with the pedal and bar a little bit, but you should then be able to get the bar to where it will stay put under the pedal as you let pressure off of the kill bar, and the pedal will stay elevated as well. Trap set.
Used this method and had success. Mouse dead by the following morning.

It worked very well for me. I use a knife to put peanut butter in the gap on the yellow plastic part. I do not use glove because I have less dexterity to manipulate the metal bar and hold the yellow plastic part at the same time. I catched three mouse already. I set the metal bar on the sensitive side of the yellow plastic part (the right side). It is true that it is a little tricky at the beginning, however once I got the hang of it, it works very well. The most important thing to not getting hurt is to avoid putting one’s finger in the trajectory of the kill bar. Once it is set, hold it by the sides of the wooden part walk gently and gently deposit it on the flat surface.

    4. Rest on edge of counter or something.
    5. Left hand - slide knife or something under yellow part, wedging it up until it catches the arm.

They can't seem to get it right. With the last set I bought, the mice were able to take the bait without the traps going off. As others have noted, this year's batch are impossible to set. The bar will not stay under the yellow pedal; it doesn't matter which side you put it on (left or right). Prepare to get your fingers snapped over and over. On those rare times when the bar stays put, the trap goes off when it is placed on the ground. On those ultra-rare times when it can be put on the ground without snapping, it goes off in a few seconds by itself.
The only way I could get the bar to stay put was to take a pliers and bend the end of the bar up slightly. The question now is whether it will go off when a mouse goes for bait.
I would also like to note that this video has important details that are nowhere on the packaging. I guess Victor thinks it is better to have incomplete instructions in 5 languages rather than a complete set of instructions in 1 language?

Some went off by themselves. In a few cases, the mice were able to take the bait unscathed. A lot of them did work once modified as described above. Forgot to mention that it also helps to rough up the end of the bar a bit with the pliers, to help it stick in the paddle. Nice of Victor to make their customers feel included by allowing them to supply the missing steps in the manufacturing and QA process :-)

TIP- While you are pulling the kill bar back. Try to push the back of the arm bar where the loop is all the way to the left and then push the front of the arm bar all the way to the left as well holding both ends of the bar at the same time for the "firm" setting and then lift the yellow plastic up a bit until you feel there's tension between that and the front of the arm bar ...then release it ..keeping your fingers away from harm of the spring. Don't worry if it fails, just try again...You'll get use to the snapping of the trap, just remember to keep your fingers safe. I find this is the easiest way.

It's not very hard. Use your right hand to hold the kill bar back bait side facing away from you. Grip the thing like a racket to make sure its not going anywhere. Then bring the support bar into the clip with your left hand. Set the bait using your left hand with a knife while still holding the kill bar with your right hand. Keep your fingers away from the bait side at all costs (obviously). If you're struggling to get the bar set, try angling the trap differently until you can see and feel the bar grab. With your left hand, pinch the end of the trap opposite of the bait from under the kill bar so you're only holding wood (never put your fingers on the bait side!) and carefully release your fingers on your right hand. Now you're free to put it wherever you want.

Mice love warmth. You will find them behind refrigerators, bar fridges, microwaves, ovens, dishwashers, fireplaces, etc. It's why they love to hang out in your attic with insulation near electrical boxes where your light fixtures and will chew the wires in this area. You only need the tiniest amount of peanut butter (a spec no bigger than the top of a stickpin.) What has always worked for me is placing a mousetrap on either side of the appliance (or behind the appliance) butted up against the baseboard/wall so that it springs inward toward the baseboard/wall as mice will travel along the wall.

What I've liked about the black snap traps is how easy they are to open and release the dead mouse. What this doesn't show is how to release once it's snapped? Do you have to use something to pry it up? Does it need to be washed to get rid of dead mouse smell for the next catch?

    • @OhNo-jq6iz
      @OhNo-jq6iz 2 роки тому +6

For about $1 each, I think they’re meant to be tossed in the trash with mouse. Its unfinished wood, so very porous which means you’re never gonna get the smell out, or the bacteria from whatever blood/pee or decomposing squirts onto it.

LoL how many comments are as if they only have one mouse! Like _"Yay - caught my first mouse!!"_ etc. These plastic things wear out after a few workings because the plastic where the wire rests against gets rounded. It is a very soft plastic. A metal-to-metal trigger is needed.

Don't waste your money. Bought two, neigher went off. Oh yes, they snapped initially and were very sentetive when I first and carefully put them down and slowly up again a wall in where the mouse was. I guess they only work or snap once. I fed a mouse a whole lot of peanut butter and the trap never went off. Slammed it with the end of a broom handle. Took a few big jabs. Ya, not going to catch a mouse that way.

  • @JamesKing2understandinglife

I am amazed by the comments from this video.I can only believe this trap is not fool proof. I set over 24 of these traps every fall and winter when the mice tend to move in. I have had one or two that were trickier to set, but once set they trigger easily which allows them to catch mice more reliably for me.Keeping your fingers away from where the bar snaps down seems obvious to me even when setting the trap down when jarring may set it off. Maybe some people put too much or too heavy of bait onto the trigger or they put the bait on after they set the trap. LOL These are great cheap effective traps for some of us.

I have to be missing something. “It’s so easy” right? I am not seeing how the metal bar forms any type of latch with the yellow part. I’m bending things every which way and nothing I’m doing is causing the trap to be set. These things are garbage. I’ve had better luck with the “pro catcher” series on Amazon

They even have a moon shaped hole. What is the sense in that ...much much worse than the old traps which don't have any stupid yellow plastic. Thanks for your help here.

With the trap I bought, the "F" position for the arm bar is sensitive and the "S" position is firm.
Try it yourself without using that scary kill bar. Hook the arm bar under the "S" & "F" sides in turn, applying pressure to the arm bar with a finger under it. Then gently touch the bait platform to determine which settings are firm and sensitive.

  • @ollieox9181

Okay, at 00:35, her finger is right there - ready to be snapped, if her thumb slips. Don't do that (I found that out the hard way). Better to just hold the trap vertical and the yellow plate/trigger thing will drop forward and you can set it then.

Sent my dad to get traps, came back with these. The pair were defective and would not stick. The arm wasnt long enough and the lip of the trigger was way to small. Had to make some modifications by bending the trigger closer. After doing that they finally stuck but still werent sticking that great because of the lip being so small. We shouldn't need to do any modifications. If it doesn't go off by accident and catches something, i guess i got what i paid for.

the whole 'sensitive' and 'firm' crap is a joke, if you can get it set and it stays set, it should be okay. Only thing to be mindful of is bending the bar too much making the hook catch too firmly (thus not snapping on the mouse). I hate this design with a passion.

i have the "pestshield" ones, they look almost identical but there is no "firm" and "sensitive" mark on them....ooops...there is ....letter "f" and letter "s"...now i see it...so....if i place the bar close to "s" i'll catch the mouse easier, right? ...and regarding the toothpick, to avoid the scent of my fingers...i've been touching those traps already a lot, while learning how to set them up....does it mean that i shouldn't bother with toothpick (won't make much difference) or does it mean that i should use the toothpick AND somehow remove my already deposited finger scent from the traps, first of all, and if yes then how?

For everyone having trouble getting it set and worried your fingers are gonna get cut off, trust me, I know. It’s scary as hell. Here’s a tip: get a dumbbell and use that to hold it down when you set it ... might take a couple tries but it’s worth it rather than using your own damn fingers. These advertisers just spin it around their damn fingers like it’s nothing.

You should hook it exactly like 0:40. Leveled surface should be easy to set it. I was able to set it on my front lawn which is uneven. I drilled a small hole in the middle of the wood then nailed it to the ground. I set the trap after. It was much easier than setting trap first and placing it. I caught one over night!
