First, love KC's videos. DCA is awesome, knowledgeable and the type of guy who seems like he would be fun to camp with or even have a beer.
Anyways: I would love to see DCA give us his overview of the common blade shapes (drop, clip, sheepsfoot, tanto etc) and where they excel. This is something I think lots of people miss when blade shopping. I have done lots of reading but I feel like David would crystalize it for me, he has a great way of explaining stuff in a succinct way.

DCA, thanks for the answer. On the biker knife selection I would like to point out that Evel Knievel attempted to jump the Snake River Canyon back in 1974 with his rocket motorcycle. I think this is a great connection of the Snake River knife that you showed to motorcycling.

One of the best blades you can have on a motorcycle is a sharp saw. In the event that a down tree is blocking the trail or road a sharp saw can keep you from having to take the long way around. Dual sport guys know what I'm talkin about.

Hey DCA, love the show! Would you rather have 10 knives that each cost around the $100 price point or 2 knives around $500. Both cost $1000 but I feel like many people fall into the first category but complain about the price of knives in the second category. I’m more of a minimalist so I like a few higher end knives.

    • @bena3341
      @bena3341 2 роки тому +2

Yea I don't understand people who complain about $500+ knives. If you don't like it don't buy them.
I fit into the first category where I own around 10 knives that total about $1000. Not all costing $100 of course. Just gotta be smart about where you spend your money and you can afford to buy a nicer knife. I have a Mora Companion that is $20 and frequently on sale for less and just picked up a Civivi Badlands Vagabond for $40 on sale. $60 for two knives that are very good at what they do and make the decision to spend $300 on a really nice Japanese chef knife easier.

I've road from So. Cal to Alaska three times on BMWs. I carried a Benchmade McHenry and Williams and a Leatherman Charge Ti. Swiss army in tankbag. I guess it would be the Crooked River if I had to buy something like the discontinued McHenry and Williams. I ended up mounting a bottle opener on the back of my aluminum adventure case too.

23:34 I find regular old lighter fluid works the best for removing tape residue, it's super quick. I've used acetone too, but it can "melt" some plastics if you leave some on by mistake, but it evaporates quickly. Mineral spirits works well but I'm not a fan of feel it leaves on the blade.

I ride a moto and carry a few different options but my absolute favorite is a Bill Coye Ridgeback/Forerunner in scout configuration. Its a fixed blade but the length isn’t an issue and it is very versatile. I believe the Ridgerunner design was licensed by Kershaw or Boker (can’t remember) and I ordered mine from Flagrant Beard (made by TOPS for them). They run approx. $75-$100 and well worth it.

Speaking of cleavers, I found a flatiron for 20 bucks. Not my usual Artisan or WE, but 20 bucks. Hated the gritty aluminum scales, so went for carbon fiber, flytanium scales. Added leather and copper lanyard, honed the blade and chamfered all the rough edges. Two weeks and 60 bucks later, It's now presentable 🤦‍♂️

I am definitely not on Team frame/liner lock. One, I strongly prefer folding knives with locks for safety. Two, I want my fingers out of the way when I have to close the unit. I have a Civivi Cogent (which is great button lock knife) and a Rat-1. The Rat-1 is in my toolbox for infrequent needs. It's also a good knife, but its liner lock requires a lot more attention to close than the Cogent. I've got an EvoGrip S18, which at least has a button outside the path of the blade, which I appreciate.

Carbon Figer is made of two ingrediants. Binder and carbon Fiber. The Binder possibly can take a dye, but its only a small portion of any quality CF scale is binder. So most likely at most only the tint of the scale. CF itself without the binder is black.

Try Boker Kihon for fast action. Minimalist Cleaver better then any locks. CRKT Biwa for bird and fish purpose knife. For bikers knives try Cold Steel Talwar or Raja 2 or 3, American Lawman is good option too. Fixed blade try Tops Outpost or Cold Steel Warcraft Tanto for bikers. Lol there's no such thing as gentleman's knife... It may look less tactical but knife is a knife whether in candy colors or wood handled Dave. ☝️😎

fixed for me as wearing chaps can make it hard to get at your pockets
hand filling handle as if your hands are cold safety is a concern
dangler sheath will not get in the way like poking you while riding
4to 5'' is all you need to big gets in the way
stainless steel is a good option as it rains when least expected .

Just dont put goo-gone on anything with a carbon steel blade. It will make them oxidize pretty much instantly. I was trying to put handles on a Mora blade blank, and i tried it to get the epoxy residue off, it was completely rusted by morning.

WD40 works great on adhesive. Good for the knife in general too.

Hey DCA and Crew! Always love seeing videos from y’all. What would you recommend for a good folder to go in a fishing tackle box? Something in a stainless/rust-resistant steel. Price below $100. Something for just general use (not planning on using it as a filet knife) but for cutting line, bait, etc.
