I have a lot of knives under $20. A real consideration for this category of knives is whether you want to constantly sharpen them. A lot of mine get dull real quick after light use because the materials aren't favorable for keeping an edge. However, I do have knives under $20 that have one heck of a sharp edge right after you sharpen it, but if you sharpen it frequently it could be worth it. Also remember durability when purchasing a knife. Its harder to fix a broken or bent blade than it is to just constantly sharpen it

one of my favorite under $20, under $10 actually, is the Schrade SCH100. you have it listed on your site for $7ish. I picked mine up at an autozone for $15 a few years ago. its an amazingly tough knife. mine is in my firefighter turnout gear, it has been an absolute workhorse. I've cut everything from seatbelts to calzones with it, never sharpened it yet, run it over with a fire engine, and it keeps coming back for more!!! great knife under $20
All my knives cost a couple of dollars. I make them myself, the aluminum handles cost a bit more, but look cool so it is worth it. Scrap spring steel is free, so the handle material and epoxy are the only actual costs. Forge On!!!
6:52 that's the nice thing about cheap knives is that they because they sharpen easy and are essentially disposable, they make for knives that are good for learning how to effectively sharpen knives.
My 5 favorite knives, under 20$...... 1. BUCK Bucklite 3 2. Imperial Sodbuster Large or Small...I love em all ! 3. Rough Ryder, HALF HAWK bolster lock. 4. Marbles GI camp knife 5. Rough Ryder WASP liner lock work knife in VG-10 blade steel......SUB 10$. OR !! RR WASP VG-10 Bow Trapper. I love em both.

I have a CardSharp and a Opinel No. 7. Love them. Good video, as per usual. And, as for many things, the best knife in the world is the one you have with you.
Thanks so much for recognizing that a huge part of your market is budget buyers. Not just cuz we're buying one sub-$20 knife, but budget collectors like me who want one of every type of knife, so i can't spend too much on any one type of knife. that's why i am a sub-$20 knife guy (hell let's be honest, I'm a $5 Friday knife kinda guy). My next under 20 purchase will be the: Baladeo Variation Laguiole Liner Lock Knife Zebra Wood A traditional looking knife except both with a liner lock and pocket clip? perfect! i've been looking for that exact sort of combination but doesn't seem to be very common at all!
Maybe an automatic "lazy susan/turn table" thing might be good for you guys to rest the knife on while you're talking. It's sometimes difficult to see the knife while you guys are holding it in your hands. The camera can't really get good, tight shots of it. Maybe a turn table or even like a holder/stand might be good so the camera can get good shots of the knives you guys are showcasing.
I know friends who ask me about getting into the knife hobby, but I honestly tell them to go get a knife around this price range, experiment and see if they actually need something more premium, then save and commit. Having a cheaper knife as my first EDC really made me understand what I want in a knife for a small cost before I spend tons of money on medium-higher end knives.
Just looking at the list i cant help but point out some ones i feel you overlooked. Folders: StatGear pocket samurai, ABKT Grunt, Ruike S11 slip joint with 12cr steel and possibly the coolest of them all, Benchmark Paratrooper swing blade. Fixed: Tallen Varmint skinner with a leather sheath, Cold steel Roachbelly and the Schrade mini machete. The Tallen is one of those throw in your bag knives that will gut or skin everything from squirrels to bear and is only $6.50
Ka-bar hunter is the best knife for the price, I absolutely love it. I had a Kershaw that costed more then it and it did not last one summer for my job. Highly suggest ka-bar hunter if you are looking for a good work knife
Love my opinels, especially after sticking them in an orange for 45 minutes. Kershaw injections if the blade is centered good and squids are tough too under $20
My Kershaw shuffle is one of my favorite knives. I carry it every day. I love the leaf-shaped blade and the large finger cutout for control, it’s so comfortable.
I just bought a very nice spring assist pocket knife on eBay for $8 bucks brand new. Free shipping. Came razor sharp and build quality is surprisingly good. Does the exact same thing as any other pocket knife. It cuts stuff. Most knives are over priced rippoffs IMO. Plus losing an $8 knife won't ruin your day.
My favorite knife under $20 is the Gordon Drop Point EDC Pocket Knife (SKU 63168) from Harbor Freight. 8CR13MOV that might actually have underwent thermal treatment. A 65 HRC file has a hard time marking the blade. The edge retention reflects the same thing. $7.99 normally; on sale for $4.99 occasionally. I buy them 3 or 4 at a time when they are on sale, tune them, lube them, sharpen them, and give them as gifts. Tuned, lubed and sharpened they pass for $30 or $40 knives (whatever the best 8CR13MOV folders cost) easily. Everyone should have one in their collection--or better yet in their pocket. They are fun to play with. Good for seeing what you can do with liner-lock blade centering, lockup and smoothness. If you feel like going overboard you can replace the nylon washers with phosphor bronze. Can also practice your serration sharpening. All-in-all a lot of fun with little to lose if something goes wrong.
I own a few of these knives. IMO the 2 best general purpose knives are the Pocket Square & the Ka Bar Hunter. The Pocket Square is a pretty heavy knife but it can handle some heavy duty tasks. The Ka Bar is a lighter knife with a slimmer profile. Its sharp & holds an edge well. Its a lot stronger than it looks & feels tho not as heavy duty as the Pocket Square. The Ka Bar Hunter has become my kick-around EDC. I've picked up some of these used for dirt cheap. I clean sharpen & lube 's & they're almost like new. I throw Them in the tool boxes, glove box, back pack, etc. Tis knife can do anything my higher end knives can do & I don't have to worry about them walking off. The Mora is the knife would take camping hiking & general outdoors stuff. The Opinel is also a good knife. Very light but a bit bulky for pocket carry.
One thing I'm trying to find (and can't find in any search engine) is budget knife brands from premium manufacturers. This isn't to say I don't know about some of them (Byrd-Spyderco, WE-civivi, and others) but I'd love a more exhaustive list since I don't have $200-up to spend on a knife but would like to get decent quality components (like bearing & good steel) but don't care so much about liner/scale/pocket clip material. While I know you want to focus on things you sell on your website, it would be nice to look at other budget brands as well & who knows, you might even increase your product lines. Thanks for all the great video's you already do.
I carry the Klarus xt2cr with me every day. The company seems to have no real track record but I decided to give it a try because of the unique and very practical dual switches.
I love the Ka Bar folding hunter, I have several different colors of it and find myself carrying it over more expensive knives. I’ve used them hard too and they’ve held up really well.
Additional options as of right now: $5 full tang fixed blade Ozark Trail (Walmart), $7.20 folding knife in 8cr13 from harbor freight (with 20% off coupon), cold steel mini tac bowie ($20 on amazon, 8cr13), gerber dime (keychain multitool), morakniv companion (4" fixed blade)
Priorities, food, rent, clothing, gas, electric, etc. etc. etc. Buy a 20-30 dollar knife a luxury. Buying a expensive knife not even close and there are a huge number of people in the same boat. I'm surprised that comes as shock to you.
everybody has priorities but if you want something you can always find a way to afford it be it sacrifice elsewhere or a side-hustle to accumulate funds.
even though 80% of americans live paycheck to paycheck, we as a nation tend to widely suffer from TEMS... . . . (Temporarily Embarrassed Millionaire Syndrome)
you really came off as elitist there, for a lot of us, we CAN'T afford a $40 knife sometimes. and for you to "disagree" with that is off-putting. I struggle to live on a VA pension, my rent alone is over half of my income. by the time I pay bills, buy food, and gas, and take care of my wife and kids I am dead ass broke. when I say that I am saving up for something I mean I literally have a jar for coins that I roll, and quarters and dimes buy essentials at the end of the month, nickels and pennies are my "savings" that I get to use for things I just want. when I bought my tops bob fixed blade it took me 17 months to get the money saved. I have been saving for over a year for an essee, but my fund was wiped out 3 months ago to keep the electricity on. I really enjoy most of your videos, but that kinda irked me.
@@CybertroninfiniteOfficial my EDC is a CRKT Hammond Cruiser, it was on sale when I got mine for around $18. usually sits around $30. but even that, I had saved a while to get to upgrade from my cheap as hell folder I had been carrying. @@CNYKnifeNerd I do not look for ways to be offended, but when the topic is budget blades, and the immediate tone is set with condescension over people maybe needing lower priced choices, a business that wants people to choose THEM to send their money to should be a little less elitist. there are a lot of other companies selling the same knives, so alienating a huge segment of the possible customer base is a bad plan
The boker ourdoor cuisine 3 I use constantly because all of the kitchen knives in my house are dull. So i keep it sharp when im cooking for myself and its fantastic for cutting, cheeses and stuff for a charcuterie board too.

Glad you got the Kabar Dozier folder. I used one in construction for years, cut a ton of sand bags and rope with it. And best part is you could touch it up with a basic small Arkansas stone at lunch
The best thing you can get under $20 is the Gerber EAB. You can't convince me otherwise. They are well built, don't have to sharpen, and you can abuse the blade all you like because you just replace it. Also, I carry a Streamlight HL-X as my EDC light and I love it.
Hi everyone! For our brothers and sisters who are on a budget which their is nothing wrong with that you can checkout Kershaw knives. Kabaar makes nice hunters. I don't know why the Smith and Wesson knife line was over looked. Yeah our friends over there at Smith and Wesson sell great knives for different prices. I started with some Smith and Wesson knives and you can't go wrong. Opinel from France is great for small tasks and they are decent. Opinel's are sharp! Boker is a good brand. Yet if you are searching for companies that are goid edc knives checkout Mtech and the Defender knife company. Frost Cutlery makes a range of knives for different prices. Browning makes good knives. Yes, yes I thought you would forget but you guys did not Shrade definitely is one of the better companies. It all depends what you want. There are options so don't settle for less.
I end up saying this so many times on here because nobody seems to mention it but it’s one of my favorites anyway I’ve had a S&W HRT dagger clipped on the strap of my backpack that I carry daily for 4 years now the sheath does a good job at holding it I’ve never had it fall out even tho I carry it upside down and it’s fast as hell to deploy and because it’s a true dagger it’s ready to defend you really no matter how you hold it, I ride a bike and I can grab it with either hand and deploy it 1 handed it’s full tang and sharp so although I have a bunch of other knives that’s one of my true true EDC’s because like I said it hasn’t left my backpack in 4 years it was a great $17 investment I keep that thing on my left backpack strap and a CAT tourniquet on the right.
I have owned two of the gerber pocket squares as i lost the first one and loved it so i bought a second one and it looks great has a nice thick blade and honestly after you learn how to open it properly it can be deployed very quickly love that knife
Hey I like the Cold Steel entry, but if I had a suggestion for a cold steel knife under $20 I would go for the Cold Steel Canadian belt knife having owned both it and the Finn Bear. Don't get me wrong the Finn Bear is a all around good blade. But the Belt knife has a better sheath, whereas the Finn Bear can get stuck pretty good in its sheath and needs a decent amount of force to unsheathe it sometimes. The handle feels better and has some knobs cut in the back of the blade which is a nice spot for a thumb. It works great for cleaning fish, whittling, and just about anything I'd do with the Finn Bear, other than maybe batoning. I think its the same steel and can also be had somewhere between $15 and $20.
Great video! I own the CRKT Minimalist, and the Finn Bear, had them for years. I love neck knives and even though I have a couple of Tops neck knives, I still wear the CRKT from time to time. I also have probably 7-8 Mora’s, 4 Bushcraft Black, and even a Pathfinder, which Dave Canterbury featured in a video years ago, which actually peaked my interest in Mora...fantastic knives. I have over 200 knives in my collection, it’s kind of an addiction, but don’t typically buy expensive knives. The most expensive one I own is a Benchmade, and it’s a special edition. I enjoy watching these videos, mostly to see if you feature any that I already own. I also have a small collection of ceramic knives...
In 2018 I bought this knife named the Albatross EDC on amazon. This knife was $9.99 and had a glass breaker, seatbelt cutter, and a 2.7 inch blade. The total length of the knife id 6.5 inches and is 3.8 inches when closed. When I received it I had to tighten the screws a little bit to make it sturdy, but other than that I have never had to maintenance it even after prying thigs open and some brutal drops. The knife comes in black, silver, and chrome silver. It also includes a carry pouch but I don't use it because the knife has a sturdy pocket clip. Overall the knife is a little heavy but overall one of my best utility knife purchases. This is the full title on amazon for anyone who is looking for it: (ALBATROSS EDC Cool Sharp Tactical Folding Pocket Knife,SpeedSafe Spring Assisted Opening Knifes with Liner Lock,Pocketclip,Glass Breaker,Seatbelt Cutter)
Maybe it's just the weed talking.. but the guy on the right sorta had me feeling way discouraged about collecting knives bc I can only afford knives around this price range. Just kinda lame. I stopped listening to anything he said only a quarter through the video and stopped watching halfway through.
I just bought over 100 knives from eBay all used EDC pocket knives..I'm going to resell them at the flea market for $5 to $10 each..wish me luck and thanks for sharing
Texas Gar Anglers :- Might it be a reaction to the many tactical, thick-bladed, poor cutting saber ground knives that have become so popular with the knife batoning crowd...knives that couldn't slice an apple without splitting and shredding the poor fruit. So now slicey means that this knife is a "cutter" with a thin blade profile and good edge geometry? Just sayin'...
sharp knife which knife is so thick it can’t decently cut fruit with a decent edge ? I don’t own “tactical” tommy knives but the thickest knife I own is probably my esee 6hm I use for camping and I can easily cut food and fruits without destroying it so I think it’s plenty “slicey” enough to do that, maybe if people actually kept there knives sharp they wouldn’t have issues with cutting things.
I would honestly recommend a marble’s large stag bone handle knife. A lot of them are under 20 dollars yet they are extremely good quality, nice and reliable knives.
I'm honestly impressed with how nice the schrade looks like I wouldn't have guessed it was a $12 knife based on looks alone. Also I'd love that Gerber knife if it wasn't so fat and had a flipper tab or thumb stud instead of a disc/square
Opinel No. 8 is my EDC. Granted, it's the only knife I have, but still great. It's actually an L.L.Bean exclusive version, with the handle being wood from the bottom of Moosehead Lake. It's a great knife for a Mainer like me.

The Kershaw Shuffle is what I use everyday at work. I mostly use the pry bar for screws and I'll use the blade to cut open boxes. I like it a lot.
I got a Kershaw shuffle on a whim, and it is still one of my favorite knives after purchasing ZTs, Spydercos, and full on custom knives. Good knife.
one of my favorite under $20, under $10 actually, is the Schrade SCH100. you have it listed on your site for $7ish.
Forge On!!!
Yessir, there's nothing quite like using a blade you forged yourself, just finished a big tomahawk myself, cheers
6:52 that's the nice thing about cheap knives is that they because they sharpen easy and are essentially disposable, they make for knives that are good for learning how to effectively sharpen knives.
“For a cheap sandwich, you can get a Mora”
**As I’m eating a $13 sandwich** 🙃🤣

My 5 favorite knives, under 20$......
1. BUCK Bucklite 3
2. Imperial Sodbuster Large or Small...I love em all !
3. Rough Ryder, HALF HAWK bolster lock.
4. Marbles GI camp knife
5. Rough Ryder WASP liner lock work knife in VG-10 blade steel......SUB 10$. OR !! RR WASP VG-10 Bow Trapper. I love em both.

You guys literally make my day brighter. Always fun to watch some knife banter.
now im so confused, don't know if I want to spend 200 on 1 knife or spend 200 and get 10 knifes lol. I have carried a 20 dollar Buck for years and still love it!!!
i bought a kershaw groove from your website. i’m young and lose shit all the time except for knives. i’ve had a trash ozark trail. $3 pocket knife and it did just fine for me and i still have it. i was looking for something new, and am happy to support you guys

My next under 20 purchase will be the:
Baladeo Variation Laguiole Liner Lock Knife Zebra Wood
A traditional looking knife except both with a liner lock and pocket clip? perfect! i've been looking for that exact sort of combination but doesn't seem to be very common at all!
Great idea!
That is a good idea. I think Blade hq should do that
I know friends who ask me about getting into the knife hobby, but I honestly tell them to go get a knife around this price range, experiment and see if they actually need something more premium, then save and commit. Having a cheaper knife as my first EDC really made me understand what I want in a knife for a small cost before I spend tons of money on medium-higher end knives.
I wish you guys were closer to the east coast. I might just have to make a trip from Michigan sometime in the near future.
Michigan has slim pickings for knife retailers, but knife hub in Waterford is pretty dope. Great staff and a pretty good selection for their size
@@nootnoot7396 yeah i like knifehub. free shipping on all knives. plus im only like 15mins drive from it if i dont want to wait on shipping
I got my Boker Mermaid for $14.00, not bragging just wanted to give my new EDC blade some love. Thanks for the work all do.

The Tallen is one of those throw in your bag knives that will gut or skin everything from squirrels to bear and is only $6.50
4:50 they break really quick don’t get them mine broke at the seams after like 10 minutes

Kershaw injections if the blade is centered good and squids are tough too under $20
So many good mods on those Opinels!
I like using vinegar or a potato its stronger
The blade or handle lol?
@@Evergreen1400 blade do you put the handle in!?

It grows real fast😉😁
Yes
Right?! I was thinking the same thing.
It's either that or my manz is a time traveler 🤫

I throw
Them in the tool boxes, glove box, back pack, etc. Tis knife can do anything my higher end knives can do & I don't have to worry about them walking off. The Mora is the knife would take camping hiking & general outdoors stuff. The Opinel is also a good knife. Very light but a bit bulky for pocket carry.
The CRKT Squid beats them all. You really missed the best under $20 by leaving that out.

I call foul on the sushi 🍣 making😂👍🏼 Nice one Zac
Im glad yall made this video. I've been into knives in the past few months, but I didn't know where to start and this video has helped me a lot.
Cold Steel did make an “Opinel”. It was called the Twist Master.
Came in 2 sizes, I have both in my collection.
Good for you. I only have the large size and regret not buying both when I had the chance.
The blades rust easily...care must be taken.
I carry the Klarus xt2cr with me every day. The company seems to have no real track record but I decided to give it a try because of the unique and very practical dual switches.

I go cheap on the clothes to get a nicer knife
everybody has priorities but if you want something you can always find a way to afford it be it sacrifice elsewhere or a side-hustle to accumulate funds.

Glad I'm not the only one carrying that Fenix. Amazing light. Max brightness lasts forever.
you really came off as elitist there, for a lot of us, we CAN'T afford a $40 knife sometimes. and for you to "disagree" with that is off-putting. I really enjoy most of your videos, but that kinda irked me.
agreed, if you ever want cheap knives btw, get kershaws and chinese off-brand knives
@@CybertroninfiniteOfficial my EDC is a CRKT Hammond Cruiser, it was on sale when I got mine for around $18. usually sits around $30. but even that, I had saved a while to get to upgrade from my cheap as hell folder I had been carrying. Life is a lot easier if you dont take everything personally and look for ways to be offended. Its not BladeHQs fault youre poor, they dont care about you, me, or anyone else for that matter. They are a corporation. They care about profit and tax breaks. End of.

I don’t know why most cheaper knives have only tip down carry
The best thing you can get under $20 is the Gerber EAB. You can't convince me otherwise. They are well built, don't have to sharpen, and you can abuse the blade all you like because you just replace it.

Got the Kershaw Shuffle II for Christmas a few years ago for college. It’s been great. Recommend it for basic everyday use.
So I guess this answers the question: where did the knife infomercials go?...
12:17 - more than any other head, I want a phillips 😬
I have owned two of the gerber pocket squares as i lost the first one and loved it so i bought a second one and it looks great has a nice thick blade and honestly after you learn how to open it properly it can be deployed very quickly love that knife
His arm hair looks like forearm tattoos.... in a good way
Hey I like the Cold Steel entry, but if I had a suggestion for a cold steel knife under $20 I would go for the Cold Steel Canadian belt knife having owned both it and the Finn Bear.
Them: "knives under $20!"
Also them: shows off $200 knife
One thing I really love about the kershaw brawler is the 4 ways the pocket clip can B attached
I didn’t see a CRKT squid
It going for $34.99 so not under $20
Cedar Hawthorne under $20 on Amazon but not Blade HQ
Apparently they can't advertise it as sub 20 dollar knife and tell you to buy somewhere else.
Why does Jamie look like hed rather be anywhere else 😂
Jack - X :- Is it because he has an appointment with his barber?

That guy is a goof, f him. Knives are great, you can find all different types in all different places around the world.
I bought a Kershaw Skyline for $17 at Walmart years ago but you can’t find them for less than $40 anymore. I carried it for years and loved it.

What’s up with the word “slicey” being thrown around in the knife community lately lol
I find Stabby works better than slicey .
My favorite sub-$20 edc is the Kershaw hotwire. Flies open super fast and smooth, comes razor sharp out of the box for 12 bucks.
Love cheap knives for EDC work knives, no crying over lost knives One of Blade HQ's shows. Have an Opinel 9 great knife for in the garden or using in the kitchen, be it at home or out camping.
