      Bass into an HM2 or MT2 then a FOWL Sounds Sonic Bronchitis into a DSL20 and then the DAW.
      Record a DI for the lowend and then throw that into as SVT plugin and blend to taste.

    I agree, the original tone sounds like a guitar. I worked as a "roadie" for one concert in Belgium in 2000, I think. We had just gotten everything set up PA-wise and went outside to get some fresh air, wenn they started the sound check inside. And when we heard what we thought was the guitar, we went inside, only to see that it was, in deed, the bass. There was nothing bassy about it. That Rick bass didn't exactly have bass or treble frequencies. Also, it had more gain, way more gain than anyone would think a bass should have. I'm pretty sure there was no clean mixed in. It was really tight, though. Either the lack of low bass of the instrument or perhaps a high pass in the pre, as is usual for Marshalls, cut away everything that would ruin precision.

    Saw them live four times; once in Hannover, three at different Wacken(s). The tone you got is great, but I feel like your picking hand doesn't have enough bourbon going to it from your bloodstream. Aside from new strings and FILTHY mids, a Lemmy tone really needs the player to have a blood alcohol level of 66.6%. Top video wie immer, Kohlmeister. 🤘

    Warren over at Produce Like Pro gave out some info like this a while back. He used a saturation plug in, I forget which, on a high pass portion of the bass signal. Compressed the ever loving shit outta the low end. That was the inspiration for one of the rigs I set up in my Headrush MX5. SVT clone, clean low end. Lead 100 for the high end cranked to oblivion. I do want to try some IRs to see if that improves even more.

    It’s definitely a lot closer to what I like. Personally, my favorite bass tone is Bob Weston of Shellac who uses a Traynor TS-50b amp. There’s a small company that makes a pedal emulating the amp and call it the Rusty Box, which does a great job.
    I’m still looking for a way to recreate it ITB so I don’t have to worry about dialing in the pedal wrong. So far, I’ve gotten fairly close with FabFilter’s Saturn

    Even though it’s not really hard to setup manually with other plugins, I love that Lemmy seems to be designed around the possibility of using two instances, one for highs one for lows, on separate tracks. I record that way a lot. The high pass built in makes it easy peezy. The tone you got doing that was “darkglass-esque” but still has a certain organic/vintage quality of its own. Great sounding plug-in and love what you did with it!

    Great tone (as usual)! I like the way you tweaked the tone and then you decided to go with two different tracks, IMO it's so much easier when you split the signal and work on tracks separately rather then trying to tweak a single track and fiddling with the plugin. Frank Bello's tone is one of my all time favorite bass tones. Not as extreme as Overkill, but works so well in the mix. Lemmy's tone was just classic, but i don't think I'd find a lot of use for it very often in a mix, though I could be wrong.

    From what I've heard, the only difference between the Super Bass and the Super Lead is one capacitor in the tone stack. The main circuit layout is very much the same.
    I had a Laney Pro Tube Bass 100 from the 80s, that turned out to be a Plexi-clone. Unfortunately there's almost no information to find about these amps anywhere. Seems to be quite a rarity. This Amp has real authentic vintage tube tones, unfortunately - like almost any vintage all tube amp - only if you play it at the right volume level. Crystal clean, fat and warm with volume (gain) up to about 4 (10 - 11 o' clock), then it gets slightly saturated. Past 2 o' clock you get into that 'Lemmy-area', I'd say. Only problem is, that all the distortion of these Plexi-style amps comes out of the power tubes. As there's no master volume/preamp distortion, the volume is just deafening if you want overdrive sounds. Even against the loudest drummer you cannot play like that without a power soak. The volume levels are really ridiculous.
    If you like these kind of distorted bass tones, it can be a good idea, to use digital amp modelers like the Line 6 Helix in my opinion. I use a HX-Stomp for both, guitar and bass guitar. The plexi model sounds really cool for bass, as well as the Fender Twin model (which is very much a Bassman with reverb in the real world). With the option of multiple signal paths, you can also create bi-amp sounds by mixing one dirty signal path (with a guitar amp and cab) with a clean bass tone. Possibilities are endless...

    • @KohleAudioKult
      @KohleAudioKult  2 роки тому

      @@KohleAudioKult ... if you can find one, you should buy it without hesitation. Mine was built in 1987. Got it from a friend, who had bought it used with Ruby EL 34 Tubes in it. Don't know, how many amps Laney built of this model. Haven't found any pics or info about this particular model on the internet.
      The Pro Tube Lead AOR guitar head shows up every now and then in ebay kleinanzeigen, but I haven't seen one Pro Tube Bass head so far. Except for the label that says "BASS" below the front panel it looks exactly like the guitar model. Same layout as an original Plexi. The chassis seems to be the same as the guitar head's, too. The bass model only has 3 preamp tubes instead of 4 in the Lead head for more gain. There's a fourth hole for the tube socket already drilled, perfect for later modding, a tube driven effects loop for example.
      The only one, I've seen is in a UA-cam clip, where a guy plays doom stuff with his guitar through it: ua-cam.com/video/7yhcm5MQO4c/v-deo.html
      Sick stuff!

      @@bones2532 The Lead spec amps changed quite a lot from the 60's to the 80's. The Bass spec circuit remained pretty much the same. The early Lead amps were very similar to the Bass amps. The bass spec amps (model#' 1986 50w and 1992 100w) are very versatile for both guitar and bass. I can get the tones in this video from my 1972 Super Bass by jumping the channels and fiddling with the gain knobs. But it's also great with guitar and an overdrive (Gary Moore in the 80's).

    • @bones2532
      @bones2532 2 роки тому

      @@JayBeBerg Thanx for that info.
      The keynote - as I see it - is: In the early days of rock music (late 60s) there hasn't been such a big difference in amps for different Instruments. The reason is, that overdriven, distorted or even high gain sounds were not produced by the amps back then. The main purpose of an amp was just to produce as much clean volume as possible. So the amps used for guitar, bass guitar and organ were quite similar at this time.
      For me it makes absolute sense, to try different amp models (especially vintage guitar amps) for bass guitar to create unique bass tones.
      The Orange OR 120 or Matamp heads are a great example.

    Keep in mind that those amp have the tone stack before the gain so run the bass at 0 to start with, they really shine due to their power section though

      I know what you mean.
      There's a touch of dängle, I'd say, just not the clänk of the more modern tones.

    I use a real one of these bassamps for guitar. It's more usefull than a stock Superlead or Superbass because of the different gainstages. Whoever claims that these are just Superleads is totally wrong !

      Thank you, O'-Dangly-One, for yet again FREELY offering us so much of your wisdom, for helping guide our steps as we seek to follow The Narrow Path of Clank-n-Dangle.
      Just finished the video. Gonna go grab that plugin right now. I got a few other things to do around the house today, but I will give it a thorough look/listen and leave my thoughts in the discord later today.
      Thank you, Kellerrrrrr! We are Dangle-Dangling in your debt!

      I wasn't trying to copy Lemmy's sound. Because I'm not Lemmy!
      I was trying to get a cool distorted bass tone.
      I recently played Lemmy's original rig in LA. You'll find a short video about it on this channel. From last month. Enjoy!
