I saw Motorhead at Irving Plaza, 1999. My buddies and I cut school to get there early for the gen admin so we could get up front. They opened up with Bomber and the place goes nuts. After the song, it quieted down a bit, and Lemmy was walking back towards the amps. I shouted at the top of my lungs "LEMMY YOU KICK F*CKING ASS!" He turned around and said "Ya got that right". One of the greatest moments of my life, the time Lemmy spoke to me.
He cadged some nepalese hash off me for a joint while we watched queen together at knebworth '88. Motorhead wern't playing he was just there as a guest of queen.
I saw Lemmy at Harpo's in Detroit MI at the bar there before a show. Everyone was hanging back because certainly that couldn't actually be Lemmy, it had to be some random Hells Angel. My friends dared me to go over and find out. As soon as I heard him talking I knew it was him. I was pretty freaked out but I had to talk to him. I didn't want to sound stupid though. So I said the first thing I thought of, "Hi, uh, Lemmy...can I ask you a question? Do you think Arthur Harris was vilified unfairly after the war for advocating the bombing of German cities?" Lemmy looked at me, says "You like history then?" I said yes, he says "Well sit down then" and we talked about the air war in Europe during WW2 for 20 minutes. Sometimes it's really awesome to meet your heroes.
Well the Luftwaffe mistakenly hit the civilian areas of Coventry instead of hitting the industry there. After that there were Allies airforce chiefs both for and against it. Though you would also have to talk about the firebombing of Dresden.
And I got to hear those words spoken in Stockholm for the 14th time in december 2015. Two weeks later I woke up to the news that this was to be the last time I ever got to hear those words from a stage. Motörhead has been a natural part of going to concerts from the time of my late youth, via adulthood and up until becoming a dann grown up with kids of my own. Motörhead concerts has been a constant for most of my life, that I somehow got into my head would last forever. The news about Lemmy’s death was not only totally surreal and almoust impossible for me to accept, it was litteraly also the end of an era in my life. Damn, this is such a sad thought. Man...
Back in 2005 I hadn't seen Motorhead for over 20 years, right back to the days of Fast Eddie and Philthy. Anyway then were playing locally supporting Alice Cooper, with Joan Jett as an opening act. Watched Joan play a great set, went to the bar with some friends. I had only taken a couple of mouthfuls of my pint, when I heard 'Good evening, we are Motorhead...My friends said they had never seen anything like it. I dropped my pint, and sprinted to the front of the stage, pushing past everyone in the way, in time for the opening bars of Doctor Rock. 45 minutes later I retreated to the bar, totally drained. I didn't even stay for the whole of Alice's act. From then until the end I saw them every time I could, probably 6 or 7 times.

One of my very first concerts in 1981 was Motörhead on the Ace of Spades tour with the original line-up. Lemmy was hanging at the bar before the show, meeting fans like it was nothing special - I got to buy him a Jack and Coke and we chatted for a while about history and literature. One of the most well-read people I've met. A true gentleman. They also broke the sound volume record at the Geneva Palladium that night at 130db. I'm a little more deaf for it, but it was worth it.
Henry tells a great story. Lemmy lived on his own terms, all his life. He was a decent, honorable, intelligent, & solid brother. You are missed, Lem. Rock In Peace!
I've been a motorhead fan and Black Flag fan since '79. Back In 89 or 90 met Lemmy in a crappy bar in Halifax, NS called the Misty Moon, he was amazing and bought us a round of shots \m/ Almost met Henry in '92 in Toronto, But he went from MuchMusic right onto his tour bus... However we did meet Chris Hasket on the street later that day and he knew how far we drove .... we were morons , drove 20 hours to see the Rollin Band and no tickets haha and they were playing only two nights at the Opera House ... Anyway Chris put me and my friends on the guest list and we got right in. ... Great memories
Lemmy was/is the rock 'n roll Jesus. He rocked when we couldn't, every shitty day at work or doing humdrum, mundane crap you could just think "Lemmy is either: rockin', writing awesome rock, at sound check (getting ready to rock) or at the Rainbow pounding Jack and cokes and playing his beloved machines. RIP Lemmy. Miss you so bad.
I've been on a Motorhead binge lately, and found this as a result. Couldn't peel my eyes away until it finished, and am now extremely emotional. I'm only 22, and the impact that this man had on my life, before I was ever even born, is immeasurable, and every time I see people talk about him, watch an interview or a documentary that he's involved with, or anything else like that, it reminds me of just how exceptional of a person he was. He is a peerless icon of rock and roll, and he didn't compromise a single bit of himself to get there. Most icons are, to some degree or another, characters, exaggerations or fabrications of a human being laid over an existing one, and that is okay, they still have value. Lemmy just was, and he was far beyond what most of us could truly ever know. To me, Lemmy is a pillar of humanity, a pure, honest, and free spirit who lived life on his own terms. He was proof that breaking the rules of society doesn't mean you can't be a wonderful human being, because he broke damn near all of em that didn't involve hurting someone else. He was a flawed, fallible person, never tried to hide or deny it, but never let it stand in his way. In so many ways, he is the person that I aspire to be one day, and I know he's inspired so many, and will continue to, maybe forever. He has left one hell of a legacy.
Brother, I hear you and I feel the exactly same way as you do, Lemmy showed me what life was all about, he did everything he ever wanted, and one of the most important lesson he thought us, is to do whatever the fuck we want with our god damn life, without giving a fliying fuck what other people think of us, that is one (if not) the greatest lesson someone can give to you, if you live by that code, you'll be happy and harmless I can assure you that. Lemmy changed my life for the better, he's my number one hero, a real man, and I cannot thank him enough for the way he inspired me, you have no idea how lucky you are to have met him, treasure that moment for the rest of your life. By the way, I was never into that tatoo fashion, but because of him, and as token of my eternal gratitude, the first (and the only tatoo) I ever gonna get, is the motorhead logo, live fast and die old!!!!

My brush with Lemmy, was at a motorhead concert. They were totally awesome, and brutally loud as usual. I Kerry and Acme Thunderer whistle in my pocket, and I blew it once between songs. He looked right at me, and said, “wow that thing is fucking loud!” The amazing thing is, he wasn’t annoyed. He was genuinely impressed! R.I.P. Lemmy!
I met Lemmy a few different times over the years and he was always the coolest guy, loved to talk and tell his tales of touring, thank you Lemmy for the music, the memories, and you just being you!
I had the blessing of meeting Lemmy (GOD) once. Backstage was not nice just chairs in a room. He says there must be something better around here than this to the 10 of us. I said I suggest a nice bar that is large have decent drinks pool tables good music and topless girls that do not hassle everyone for cash nice looking ones too. He said I like it lets go. We most all went and Lemmy and I sat and talked for an hour or so about lots of stuff. Henry is not lying Lemmy was no poser and was smart and a great man with a great mind. No rock star attitude and very friendly and down to earth. We had a lot of smiles thinking the same about most and similar of the rest. I will never forget it and am confident he is and should be in the best place there is after we go. RIP and remembered for ever LEMMY will not forget that talk The part of this I thought you might like is when I told him Motorhead had a punk rock vibe or a little sound of it toofrom some of the songs I like the most.the Punk rock you can understaand the lrics sang understanding what the words are. Chatting with Lemmy and Phil was amazing. Talking music, live, history. Was a night I will never forget. That night he also discovered he was a fan of Concrete Blonde RIP mate it was good to know you...
That was an emotional recollection. You were very blessed to have been able to count him as a friend. My partner used to work at a record shop that had various artists visit for signings, she tells me (sorry for the proxy tale) but seemingly Lemmy not only showed up minus fanfare, his only request was a bottle of whisky and couple of coke, but he stayed until he had spent time, and signed anything, with every single person before he stumbled drunkenly to the tube to get home again. This was in London in the 1980s.

Never got to speak with Lemmy, never got to meet him. But I was able to finally see them play a couple months before he passed. I've seen a lot of bands like all of you. Hundreds. But few were as memorable. I knew I was watching something special. Lemmy was rock and roll.
I saw Motorhead in 1981 or 2 at the Spectrum in Montreal,,Apparently it was so loud,you could hear them on the adjacent street Bleury. Been to Hardcore concerts and metal band shows but no one was louder than Motorhead...I'm happy I had a chance to see them.
Saw Motorhead in 81 also opening for Ozzy with Randy Rhoads in Kansas City at a 3,000 seat arena and Motorhead was actually way louder than Ozzy. That's the only time I've ever seen an opener be louder than the headliner...lol....everytime I saw Motorhead they were absolutely bone-crushing loud...it's hard to describe how loud they were but when you go and see a band there is loud and then there is Motorhead loud and no other band even came close.
Bless you Henry. You really captured a bit of what made the man so special and so loved by so many. Of all The people I never met, but respect immensely Lem and Henry are at the top of that list.
The first time I met Lemmy was in my home of record in New Jersey in 1992, I was in high school and Headbangers Ball was in full swing; it was at the bar (I had a fake iD) a he told me a joke about how young and virgin I looked to be at the Birch Hill NC (I had just turned 17 and was doing shots with Lemmy!) Ten years later I was in the Air Force, based in England (RAF Mildenhall) I met him again at Hammersmith Odium while I was in Uniform and we exchanged salute! Best was in 2011, I was in Auckland New Zealand, I meet him incredibly in a bass guitar shop (Rock Shop) and he remembered me! And called me the young virgin boy and saluted me just as if no time ever had passed!! When Henry talks story, you feel like you are living with him through him!

He was such a legend. I had a lot of great times going to Motorhead shows, such great memories. Got to meet him once and shook his hand. He signed my ticket stub, I have it framed on my living room wall. Times change but the music will always be there.
Fantastic....further testament to the kind of guy Lemmy was...the real deal through and through. The world needs more people like him....like...20 years ago.
Love whatever Rollins does - this is so spot on! My first favourite tune was Silver Machine - Hawkwind. Must have heard it on the radio when I was about 8... can't remember, but my sister did. As soon as I could think coherently I was a fan of Hawkwind, and read music press so knew he'd left/been booted out, and had formed Motorhead. Got the first album on white vinyl and played it to death. When Overkill was released - got that on green vinyl and was just about old enough to go to the tour gig at the Birmingham Odeon - April 7th, 1979. The atmosphere was electric, and when they appeared on stage the place went ballistic... they played LOUD - seismic, organ liquifying, World War 3 in a phone booth loud, so loud you couldn't even hear it. I was right down the front and stuck my head in one of the bass bins! Eddie saw me, shook his head in disbelief, gestured to Lemmy to come over - he saw me and shook his head too! Afterwards I was so pummelled by the sound that it felt like I was wrapped in a mattress.... but back in those days, if you hung around the back by the stage door, you'd likely get picked up by the band and go back to the hotel with them when they left - which a few of us did! You could talk to them like real people, and so long as you weren't a complete twat, you were OK with them. One thing I remember was that in Lemmy's room, by the bed, was a book by P.G. Wodehouse - one of the Jeeves books I think. Struck me as odd, but he was an immensely well-read bloke and loved language, which is why hew knew 'trammelled'! Met him a few times after that on tours up till Iron Fist. Formative influence, total one-off, utmost respect.
I met Lemmy when i was 16. I was looking outside the gates at White Snake i think, at Arrow Classic Rock Festival. When a reporter walked behind me and asked if i wanted to go in. I said "Fuck yeah", and he took me with him inside and gave me my own BackstagePass. I thankd him, but i was alone and had no friends that i knew of that where in. So i asked him if i could go along with him. He said yes and took care of me that day. After a while he had to do a interview with a band and took me to the 2nd stage backstage. And there he was, Lemmy. Talking to Micky if i'm correct. I was standing there for like 2 minutes just staring at him until he saw me. He lookd at me and smiled, said "how are you doing kid?" and shaked my hand. "You want something to drink?" yes, Sir. He went to the bar and gave me a beer and said "Have a great time" shaked my hand again and walked away. 10 minutes later i heard the deafening sound of Lemmy's bass and voice. A Force of nature with a kind heart. And the phrase "Have a good time" got more meaning over the years. Still having a great time...
Saw Motorhead 1992 Camden town forum. He pointed at me during 'Killed by Death' i will never forget. Had to stop on the way home for a few Hours though because my ears were hurting
When he wasn't touring Lemmy's life was going to the Rainbow and playing the slot machines. It is kind of sad that he didn't seem to know what to do with himself when he wasn't on the road. He lived in a basic rent-controlled apartment and spent most of his time at a bar around the corner. He should have been vacationing in the Bahamas with Keith Richards and Johnny Depp and having supermodels take turns bouncing on his knob.
if I were Henry, I would've cancelled the show he was supposed to do at that museum to go on stage with Motörhead, he probably regrets that, 'cause that was the last time he saw Lemmy alive. But just like lemmy is lemmy, henry is his own character too, always true to himself no matter what
If someone said fuck an album for the day then Lemmy probably would've said fuck you. People seem to forget how real Rock N Roll is to the actual musicians who couldnt live without it. Its a lifestyle, not a scene.

Love both Lem and Henry. Never got to talk to Henry, but Lemmy i got to after some shows at smaller gigs. Always sharp, focused, and a hint of anger. If you aren't angry, you're not paying attention. I got to thank him for all his years and the band's of telling great stories through rock n roll. Loudest band i ever saw... swear to gawd, each show was louder than the last.
Thanks Henry for your personal, real and well said account of an Authentic Person. I have been listening to Motorhead music and interviews since Lemmy died. Your video helped synthesize and put to rest some pieces of the loss of this man. And a real "thank you" for your body of work. Last time I saw you was at the Ritz in NYC ( with Black Flag ). I saw Motorhead a few times over the yrs but one stood out more than most I saw the Operation Rock n Roll tour back either during the Gulf War or after it was a whole shitload of bands and Motorhead but they was playing in Nashville at the old Starwood Amphitheatre an outside venue...man soon as Motorhead took stage it was no B.S. Lemmy comes out the mic pointing down like usual and he mostly mumbled "Are you fucking ready to rock n roll Nashville?" Then they started fucking killing it no frills no crap just melt your face metal!!!!! RIP Lemmy and Thanks!!!!
I watched the live feed of his funeral. I’m still upset about it and that was 2015, I have multiple Motörhead tattoos, they were and always will be my favorite band ever. Rip Lemmy.
Wonderful reminiscences from Henry Rollins. Lemmy was a great guy, I met him a few times back in the late 70's, early 80's. Friendly and engaged with his fans and as Henry so adeptly describes, no bullshit at all. Great talk by Henry, made me laugh and brought a tear to my eye.
Sometimes it takes a bit of time to remember... I've done a lot of theatre summer schools and met some really great tutors on these schools. One of the guys was quite a well-known writer, particularly in comedy in the UK. He pitched an idea to the BBC about a sort of bizarre and surreal comedy where the characters would have some involvement with a hospital where the nurse would be be Lemmy, all hairy etc, just dressed up in the Nurses uniform and of course nobody would ever comment on it - he would just be "The Nurse". Apparently Lemmy was right up for it, he certainly had a sense of humour. I'd would have liked to have seen that.
That's one thing I missed a wee bit when I watched the live stream of Lemmy's memorial service back in 2016: a eulogy for Lemmy from Henry Rollins, because Henry's such a gifted storyteller (the service still was really beautiful and moving, though, I just think that Henry Rolins would have added some additional beauty).
my room in my hometown was exact like Lemme's , in my Attic Two rooms I grew up in up untill March 2004 , i had 9 boxes of 360 comic books , toys , video tapes , posters , newspaper clippings , etc on n on everything i ever owned since a kid , pretty much too. Was never ever garbage , used plates or anything in it ever. In one room i had to step walk certain ways to get through it and had one of 2 Vcrs at the end of my bed too.

I stage crewed for Motorhead on the Bomber tour. During the get out, there actually was a bomb scare, but we all had to carry on working whilst everyone else was evacuated from the building!!
Once drank a whiskey with him (ok, on the same counter, but he cheered to me), one of my favourite memories, so sweet, so cool! The Lem was another kind, seriously. They don't make em like that anymore. Today they die after 12 pills Oxi and a light beer. It's the mental attitude. I know that, I rode the bull for some years, too, I'm not that generation (I was born in the 70s) and I won't ever compare myself to Lemmy, don't get me wrong, never ever, he was the coolest RockNRoll-Cat under the suns, but I knew people, and it's the mindset. TBF, Lemmy didn't really like Opioids and Tranquilisers. Just not his scene. He wanted to go fast and hard... But he at least showed respect to those who got hooked on smack et al. He saw it so many times, that he knew that they were a whole different kind of addiction. As someone who has gone just as hard for 20 years... (Slowing down now. And yeah, probably will "pay the bill" a lot earlier than most, that's the cost of living fast.) I will say the most addictive thing I found with base/shab or sulphates, is that eventually youj need to sleep, even if it's just for 4 hours. But dopamine/adrenaline addiction is no where near as hell than endorphin / GABA addiction. Plus kids today just take any bloody thing. That Spice is not even simulating THC/Cannibanoids, it's just all Phikal/Tical manipulation... Kids today are nothing more than Lab Rats for Drug CArtels.... Sad really...
I saw Motorhead at Irving Plaza, 1999. My buddies and I cut school to get there early for the gen admin so we could get up front. They opened up with Bomber and the place goes nuts. After the song, it quieted down a bit, and Lemmy was walking back towards the amps. I shouted at the top of my lungs "LEMMY YOU KICK F*CKING ASS!" He turned around and said "Ya got that right". One of the greatest moments of my life, the time Lemmy spoke to me.

I saw Lemmy at Harpo's in Detroit MI at the bar there before a show. Everyone was hanging back because certainly that couldn't actually be Lemmy, it had to be some random Hells Angel. My friends dared me to go over and find out. As soon as I heard him talking I knew it was him. I was pretty freaked out but I had to talk to him. I didn't want to sound stupid though. So I said the first thing I thought of, "Hi, uh, Lemmy...can I ask you a question? Do you think Arthur Harris was vilified unfairly after the war for advocating the bombing of German cities?" Lemmy looked at me, says "You like history then?" I said yes, he says "Well sit down then" and we talked about the air war in Europe during WW2 for 20 minutes.

And I got to hear those words spoken in Stockholm for the 14th time in december 2015. Two weeks later I woke up to the news that this was to be the last time I ever got to hear those words from a stage.
Motörhead has been a natural part of going to concerts from the time of my late youth, via adulthood and up until becoming a dann grown up with kids of my own. Motörhead concerts has been a constant for most of my life, that I somehow got into my head would last forever.
The news about Lemmy’s death was not only totally surreal and almoust impossible for me to accept, it was litteraly also the end of an era in my life. Damn, this is such a sad thought. Man...
Back in 2005 I hadn't seen Motorhead for over 20 years, right back to the days of Fast Eddie and Philthy. Anyway then were playing locally supporting Alice Cooper, with Joan Jett as an opening act. Watched Joan play a great set, went to the bar with some friends. I had only taken a couple of mouthfuls of my pint, when I heard 'Good evening, we are Motorhead...My friends said they had never seen anything like it. I dropped my pint, and sprinted to the front of the stage, pushing past everyone in the way, in time for the opening bars of Doctor Rock. 45 minutes later I retreated to the bar, totally drained. I didn't even stay for the whole of Alice's act. From then until the end I saw them every time I could, probably 6 or 7 times.

One of my very first concerts in 1981 was Motörhead on the Ace of Spades tour with the original line-up. Lemmy was hanging at the bar before the show, meeting fans like it was nothing special - I got to buy him a Jack and Coke and we chatted for a while about history and literature. One of the most well-read people I've met. A true gentleman. They also broke the sound volume record at the Geneva Palladium that night at 130db. I'm a little more deaf for it, but it was worth it.
Henry tells a great story. Lemmy lived on his own terms, all his life. He was a decent, honorable, intelligent, & solid brother. You are missed, Lem. Rock In Peace!

I've been a motorhead fan and Black Flag fan since '79. Back In 89 or 90 met Lemmy in a crappy bar in Halifax, NS called the Misty Moon, he was amazing and bought us a round of shots \m/ Almost met Henry in '92 in Toronto, But he went from MuchMusic right onto his tour bus... However we did meet Chris Hasket on the street later that day and he knew how far we drove .... we were morons , drove 20 hours to see the Rollin Band and no tickets haha and they were playing only two nights at the Opera House ... Anyway Chris put me and my friends on the guest list and we got right in. ... Great memories

He rocked when we couldn't, every shitty day at work or doing humdrum, mundane crap you could just think "Lemmy is either: rockin', writing awesome rock, at sound check (getting ready to rock) or at the Rainbow pounding Jack and cokes and playing his beloved machines. I've been on a Motorhead binge lately, and found this as a result. Couldn't peel my eyes away until it finished, and am now extremely emotional. I'm only 22, and the impact that this man had on my life, before I was ever even born, is immeasurable, and every time I see people talk about him, watch an interview or a documentary that he's involved with, or anything else like that, it reminds me of just how exceptional of a person he was. He is a peerless icon of rock and roll, and he didn't compromise a single bit of himself to get there. Most icons are, to some degree or another, characters, exaggerations or fabrications of a human being laid over an existing one, and that is okay, they still have value. Lemmy just was, and he was far beyond what most of us could truly ever know. To me, Lemmy is a pillar of humanity, a pure, honest, and free spirit who lived life on his own terms. He was proof that breaking the rules of society doesn't mean you can't be a wonderful human being, because he broke damn near all of em that didn't involve hurting someone else. He was a flawed, fallible person, never tried to hide or deny it, but never let it stand in his way. In so many ways, he is the person that I aspire to be one day, and I know he's inspired so many, and will continue to, maybe forever. He has left one hell of a legacy.

Brother, I hear you and I feel the exactly same way as you do, Lemmy showed me what life was all about, he did everything he ever wanted, and one of the most important lesson he thought us, is to do whatever the fuck we want with our god damn life, without giving a fliying fuck what other people think of us, that is one (if not) the greatest lesson someone can give to you, if you live by that code, you'll be happy and harmless I can assure you that. Lemmy changed my life for the better, he's my number one hero, a real man, and I cannot thank him enough for the way he inspired me, you have no idea how lucky you are to have met him, treasure that moment for the rest of your life. By the way, I was never into that tatoo fashion, but because of him, and as token of my eternal gratitude, the first (and the only tatoo) I ever gonna get, is the motorhead logo, live fast and die old!!!!

I had the blessing of meeting Lemmy (GOD) once. Backstage was not nice just chairs in a room. He says there must be something better around here than this to the 10 of us. I said I suggest a nice bar that is large have decent drinks pool tables good music and topless girls that do not hassle everyone for cash nice looking ones too. He said I like it lets go. We most all went and Lemmy and I sat and talked for an hour or so about lots of stuff. Henry is not lying Lemmy was no poser and was smart and a great man with a great mind. No rock star attitude and very friendly and down to earth. We had a lot of smiles thinking the same about most and similar of the rest. I will never forget it and am confident he is and should be in the best place there is after we go. RIP and remembered for ever LEMMY will not forget that talk The part of this I thought you might like is when I told him Motorhead had a punk rock vibe or a little sound of it toofrom some of the songs I like the most.the Punk rock you can understaand the lrics sang understanding what the words are. The good stuff played tight and wellevenhad a bit of roll. He smiled nodding yes happy in agreement.

Truth sir. I hung out with the gents in Motorhead in PDX serving them drinks. conversation, and spinning tunes at an after show party the band I was working for threw for them. Chatting with Lemmy and Phil was amazing. Talking music, live, history. Was a night I will never forget. That night he also discovered he was a fan of Concrete Blonde

My partner used to work at a record shop that had various artists visit for signings, she tells me (sorry for the proxy tale) but seemingly Lemmy not only showed up minus fanfare, his only request was a bottle of whisky and couple of coke, but he stayed until he had spent time, and signed anything, with every single person before he stumbled drunkenly to the tube to get home again. This was in London in the 1980s.

Never got to speak with Lemmy, never got to meet him. But I was able to finally see them play a couple months before he passed. I've seen a lot of bands like all of you. Hundreds. But few were as memorable. I knew I was watching something special. Lemmy was rock and roll.
I saw Motorhead in 1981 or 2 at the Spectrum in Montreal,,Apparently it was so loud,you could hear them on the adjacent street Bleury. Been to Hardcore concerts and metal band shows but no one was louder than Motorhead...I'm happy I had a chance to see them.

Saw Motorhead in 81 also opening for Ozzy with Randy Rhoads in Kansas City at a 3,000 seat arena and Motorhead was actually way louder than Ozzy. That's the only time I've ever seen an opener be louder than the headliner...lol....everytime I saw Motorhead they were absolutely bone-crushing loud...it's hard to describe how loud they were but when you go and see a band there is loud and then there is Motorhead loud and no other band even came close.
A sound engineer who worked with Motorhead and The Replacements for years, said The Replacements were way louder.

I can verify that the Replacements were loud, but not as loud as Husker Du. And Husker Du weren't as loud as Motorhead.

The first time I met Lemmy was in my home of record in New Jersey in 1992, I was in high school and Headbangers Ball was in full swing; it was at the bar (I had a fake iD) a he told me a joke about how young and virgin I looked to be at the Birch Hill NC (I had just turned 17 and was doing shots with Lemmy!)
Ten years later I was in the Air Force, based in England (RAF Mildenhall) I met him again at Hammersmith Odium while I was in Uniform and we exchanged salute!
Best was in 2011, I was in Auckland New Zealand, I meet him incredibly in a bass guitar shop (Rock Shop) and he remembered me! And called me the young virgin boy and saluted me just as if no time ever had passed!!
When Henry talks story, you feel like you are living with him through him!

Love whatever Rollins does - this is so spot on! My first favourite tune was Silver Machine - Hawkwind. Must have heard it on the radio when I was about 8... can't remember, but my sister did. As soon as I could think coherently I was a fan of Hawkwind, and read music press so knew he'd left/been booted out, and had formed Motorhead. Got the first album on white vinyl and played it to death. When Overkill was released - got that on green vinyl and was just about old enough to go to the tour gig at the Birmingham Odeon - April 7th, 1979. The atmosphere was electric, and when they appeared on stage the place went ballistic... they played LOUD - seismic, organ liquifying, World War 3 in a phone booth loud, so loud you couldn't even hear it. I was right down the front and stuck my head in one of the bass bins! Eddie saw me, shook his head in disbelief, gestured to Lemmy to come over - he saw me and shook his head too! Afterwards I was so pummelled by the sound that it felt like I was wrapped in a mattress.... but back in those days, if you hung around the back by the stage door, you'd likely get picked up by the band and go back to the hotel with them when they left - which a few of us did! You could talk to them like real people, and so long as you weren't a complete twat, you were OK with them. One thing I remember was that in Lemmy's room, by the bed, was a book by P.G. Wodehouse - one of the Jeeves books I think. Struck me as odd, but he was an immensely well-read bloke and loved language, which is why hew knew 'trammelled'! Met him a few times after that on tours up till Iron Fist. Formative influence, total one-off, utmost respect.
The past 30 minutes have just floated by in complete bliss. We all know Rollins has his own attitude; that being said this was incredibly touching

I met Lemmy when i was 16. I was looking outside the gates at White Snake i think, at Arrow Classic Rock Festival. When a reporter walked behind me and asked if i wanted to go in. I said "Fuck yeah", and he took me with him inside and gave me my own BackstagePass. I thankd him, but i was alone and had no friends that i knew of that where in. So i asked him if i could go along with him. He said yes and took care of me that day. After a while he had to do a interview with a band and took me to the 2nd stage backstage. And there he was, Lemmy. Talking to Micky if i'm correct. I was standing there for like 2 minutes just staring at him until he saw me. He lookd at me and smiled, said "how are you doing kid?" and shaked my hand. "You want something to drink?" yes, Sir. He went to the bar and gave me a beer and said "Have a great time" shaked my hand again and walked away. 10 minutes later i heard the deafening sound of Lemmy's bass and voice.
A Force of nature with a kind heart.

It is kind of sad that he didn't seem to know what to do with himself when he wasn't on the road. He lived in a basic rent-controlled apartment and spent most of his time at a bar around the corner. He should have been vacationing in the Bahamas with Keith Richards and Johnny Depp and having supermodels take turns bouncing on his knob.

if I were Henry, I would've cancelled the show he was supposed to do at that museum to go on stage with Motörhead, he probably regrets that, 'cause that was the last time he saw Lemmy alive. But just like lemmy is lemmy, henry is his own character too, always true to himself no matter what

If someone said fuck an album for the day then Lemmy probably would've said fuck you. People seem to forget how real Rock N Roll is to the actual musicians who couldnt live without it. Its a lifestyle, not a scene.

Love both Lem and Henry. Never got to talk to Henry, but Lemmy i got to after some shows at smaller gigs. Always sharp, focused, and a hint of anger. If you aren't angry, you're not paying attention. I got to thank him for all his years and the band's of telling great stories through rock n roll. Loudest band i ever saw... swear to gawd, each show was louder than the last.
saw Henry on this tour... about the 8th time I've seen him doing Spoken word... day after the election 2016 he was exceptional as Always!
Thanks Henry for your personal, real and well said account of an Authentic Person. I have been listening to Motorhead music and interviews since Lemmy died. Your video helped synthesize and put to rest some pieces of the loss of this man. And a real "thank you" for your body of work. Last time I saw you was at the Ritz in NYC ( with Black Flag ). I saw Motorhead a few times over the yrs but one stood out more than most I saw the Operation Rock n Roll tour back either during the Gulf War or after it was a whole shitload of bands and Motorhead but they was playing in Nashville at the old Starwood Amphitheatre an outside venue...man soon as Motorhead took stage it was no B.S. Lemmy comes out the mic pointing down like usual and he mostly mumbled "Are you fucking ready to rock n roll Nashville?" Then they started fucking killing it no frills no crap just melt your face metal!!!!! RIP Lemmy and Thanks!!!!

I watched the live feed of his funeral. I’m still upset about it and that was 2015, I have multiple Motörhead tattoos, they were and always will be my favorite band ever. Rip Lemmy.

Wonderful reminiscences from Henry Rollins. Lemmy was a great guy, I met him a few times back in the late 70's, early 80's. Friendly and engaged with his fans and as Henry so adeptly describes, no bullshit at all.
Great talk by Henry, made me laugh and brought a tear to my eye.
Sometimes it takes a bit of time to remember...
I've done a lot of theatre summer schools and met some really great tutors on these schools. One of the guys was quite a well-known writer, particularly in comedy in the UK. He pitched an idea to the BBC about a sort of bizarre and surreal comedy where the characters would have some involvement with a hospital where the nurse would be be Lemmy, all hairy etc, just dressed up in the Nurses uniform and of course nobody would ever comment on it - he would just be "The Nurse". Apparently Lemmy was right up for it, he certainly had a sense of humour. I'd would have liked to have seen that.
Brian Parker met him too a few years before he passed an spoke with him for an hour and he was a GREAT g&uY i AGREE RIP LEMMY !
That's one thing I missed a wee bit when I watched the live stream of Lemmy's memorial service back in 2016: a eulogy for Lemmy from Henry Rollins, because Henry's such a gifted storyteller (the service still was really beautiful and moving, though, I just think that Henry Rolins would have added some additional beauty).

my room in my hometown was exact like Lemme's , in my Attic Two rooms I grew up in up untill March 2004 , i had 9 boxes of 360 comic books , toys , video tapes , posters , newspaper clippings , etc on n on everything i ever owned since a kid , pretty much too. Was never ever garbage , used plates or anything in it ever. In one room i had to step walk certain ways to get through it and had one of 2 Vcrs at the end of my bed too.

It's TRUE about Cohen..I was lucky to see his show at Glastonbury. The man was tapping in to something very deep and unique ...I'm also a big black flag motorhead Hawkwind fan .so this is great. ..Henry's book ...get in the van is a great book .great art great story's.they all .legends to me to be fair
I stage crewed for Motorhead on the Bomber tour. During the get out, there actually was a bomb scare, but we all had to carry on working whilst everyone else was evacuated from the building!!
Once drank a whiskey with him (ok, on the same counter, but he cheered to me), one of my favourite memories, so sweet, so cool! The Lem was another kind, seriously. They don't make em like that anymore. Today they die after 12 pills Oxi and a light beer. It's the mental attitude. I know that, I rode the bull for some years, too, I'm not that generation (I was born in the 70s) and I won't ever compare myself to Lemmy, don't get me wrong, never ever, he was the coolest RockNRoll-Cat under the suns, but I knew people, and it's the mindset. Death just doesn't dare, Death has to wait till the RockNRoll in these magnificent beeings simmers down a bit, then he comes, but not earlier. Death just doesn't dare. Or he/she just likes to watch, I dunno ;)
TBF, Lemmy didn't really like Opioids and Tranquilisers. Just not his scene. He wanted to go fast and hard... But he at least showed respect to those who got hooked on smack et al. He saw it so many times, that he knew that they were a whole different kind of addiction.
As someone who has gone just as hard for 20 years... (Slowing down now. And yeah, probably will "pay the bill" a lot earlier than most, that's the cost of living fast.) I will say the most addictive thing I found with base/shab or sulphates, is that eventually youj need to sleep, even if it's just for 4 hours. But dopamine/adrenaline addiction is no where near as hell than endorphin / GABA addiction. Plus kids today just take any bloody thing. That Spice is not even simulating THC/Cannibanoids, it's just all Phikal/Tical manipulation... Kids today are nothing more than Lab Rats for Drug CArtels.... Sad really...

I have one Motorhead album on vinyl it's On Parole and I got it from Lemmy at a show, no idea why he had it with him, didn't ask.
