As the team already locked up Brown to a long-term deal, if the team doesn't win it all this season, do they still lock Tatum to a long-term deal next summer?
And right on cue, tonight the Celtics blew a 17 point lead to the Warriors that had a Steph Curry with 5 fouls midday through the third quarter. When Phil Jackson said they know how to lose a game, he wasn’t lying
Yep, boston was also getting a ton of favorable calls and still couldn't do it. I guess choking runs in the franchise after spending so much time without actual success.
@@ItsMeStriderbro if choking runs in the Celtics it runs in the whole nba as genetic code. There’s straight up 10+ teams in the nba that never have and never will win a ring.
i can understand late 80s and the entire 90s because of the tragedies that happened with the drafts, but man, that late 00s roster should never end with just one ring, front office really didnt do its job dealing with all the drama inside and the injuries shit
It's quite simple, really. Their franchise pillars died suddenly and their genious general manager in Red Auerbach never seemed to have a competent replacement in his retirement. Imagine Kobe and Shaq suddenly dying and Jerry West being replaced immediately by someone like Jim Buss.
Well the lakera arent that far off kobe did die tho shaq is still with us although u do have a point the celtics still have been mediocre even after decades 🤦🏾🤦🏾
I give a lot of credit to the celtics in the 90s mostly for the fact that two of the players meant to lead the team literally died. Like you can't do much as a franchise when that happens. The late 90s celtics under pitino really set them up for failure in the early 00s
2:26-2:37 What do both the 2008-09 Celtics and the 2015-16 Warriors have in common aside from their starts? Neither team won the title that season. Also worth noting, the team that won was the team they had beaten the prior Finals. 34:13 Were the Warriors actually healthy in the 2019 NBA Finals? 37:41-37:46 The Heat were the 8th seed in the 2023 NBA Playoffs
it really came down to death of health of the old big 3, health of the new big 3, Lewis/Bias deaths, having the Mavs take Olynyk over Giannis, and health of the current crew of stars. Long string of bad breaks.
I think young hoop fans don’t understand how good that 08 Celtics and 09 Celtics teams were. They didn’t come up short, they were hindered by injury. It was the first time you could say the team had legitimately a top 10 player on the roster KG that could win MVP for a long time. Thats why that title is celebrated by the fans and group. Being young during that period you probably wouldn’t appreciate it and look at it through contrasted lens. In short Bostons lack of a title in 36 years isn’t because they didn’t try or complete ineptitude by the franchise. They lacked the talent or lost the talent (bias and Lewis literally dying) to injury. Also for what it’s worth being a fan since the last title and only having to sit through a year without the playoffs is commendable and other organisations would probably envy. I also thought this vid would start from the last chip in the 80s and progress to 08 and then to present but I can respect that it’s more of a lived fandom than documentary of such. Great video Dom hope to see way more in the future.
I'm surprised that you skipped over the 12-3 record the Celtics had in the 2019 season without Kyrie. The team looked GREAT in that stretch. Tatum, Brown, Horford, Hayward, Rozier, and Smart all were putting up better numbers on better efficiency with the ball popping on offense and great rotations on defense. It would have been really interesting if the Celtics just shut Kyrie down at that point knowing that he was going to leave. It might have helped them retain Horford in the offseason and give them a better chance against the Bucks in 2019.
If Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen joined the Celtics in the early 2000's,The Celtics would have won more titles..All those guys in their prime were fantastic...
Just goes to show even making the conference finals requires a lot of things to go right, winning it all is even harder. We’ve been spoiled by the likes of Duncan, Jordan and Kobe. Most people won’t ever sniff a single conference finals never mind go win the whole thing
This is why even though I am kind of a Lebron hater (don’t deny his all-time talent, just think he’s an entitled bitch), the fact that so much as to go perfect out of your control, and then you STILL have to make it happen just to get to the conference finals and actual finals, it makes no sense to knock someone for that. Then to pull it off consistently, which is even harder. I feel there’s a lot to knock Lebron for, but his playoff record isn’t it.
34:50 the famous "jordan rules" were also based on forcing him left just saying. not to say jaylen is anywhere near jordan of course but many players even star players have flaws in their games
i was such a big kyrie fan that first year in boston. nothing angers me more than seeing him in that nets jersey, the dumb shit he did like stomping the logo. celtics went on to essentially break their roster the following year in the playoffs.
Drafting Tatum was a sliding doors moment for the Celtics. In the sense that history kind of repeated itself. Bill Russell was drafted to the st Louis Hawks and then traded to the Celtics. Tatum is from st Louis. Tatum and brown will be for the Celtics what bias and Lewis should have been.
As a Celtics fan It’s a shame that we only won 2 rings in this century were a winning franchise we supposed to win more championships it’s in our identity I hope my Celtics will continue to win more championships like this franchise supposed to do.
I think the last nail in the Ray Allen coffin was when they tried to have him come off the bench after his injury because of how incredible Avery Bradley was playing in his absence. It should have been a normal bench stint before returning to the starting lineup eventually I’m pretty sure but it seemed like the smart thing to do if they wanted to. Bradley was young and provided big energy as a starter and having a hall of famer, champion one of the greatest 3pt shooters ever come off the bench??? It would have been extremely huge for us. The Mavs were exposing the West with Jason Terry (who would eventually come to us of course) coming off the bench as a sharp shooter but still finishing the game with the starters even though he wasn’t one. Ray Allen could have been great for us if he accepted it but again, I don’t think they were really asking him to stay coming off the bench. I dunno maybe they did
I dont feel bad for Boston in the past 22 years the Patriots won 6 SB's the Red Sox won 4 WS then add the Celtics and Bruins getting 1 each in that time span, Boston saw 12 Championships in 22 years while some cities never seen a title or just 1 or 2.
LA is another team blessed beyond belief with sports teams. The Angels and Dodgers each have one title, the Lakers won six titles this century, the LA Rams won a Super Bowl, the Anaheim Ducks won something. And I’m still missing a few rings, aren’t I?
@@RittenhousesRifle To lie to him about how serious his injury was to trade him after he played after his family member passed. Thats more than “business” and should have been sued for negligence.
To be fair Boston isn't a place that's guaruntee to attract top free agents. It's bigger than a small market, but it's not like LA, NYC or Miami, where dudes are chomping at the bit to go to. With that in mind they've done incredibly well. One of the better managed teams in the league over the past 20 years.
That's why I think people see the Lakers as the greatest franchise ever, because let's be honest..outside the 50s to 70's where the Celtics won 13 of their 17 rings. In the modern NBA the Celtics won only 4 rings and as soon as the late 1980's expansion happened and that there's more teams in the league, they won 1 title and for most of the 90's, 2000's and 2010 they weren't that dominant outside of now ( 2020's) and the 3 years stretch of 2008-2010
Historically I have never liked Celtics teams throughout 2000's and 2010's (maybe some of it due to because I was a kobe fan) but this new young team I started rooting since 2022 season. I really like them and hope they finally win it this year.
when compiled into one video, celtics just might be a cursed franchise. when you think of all the events that took place from 1986 to 2008, they absolutely are a cursed franchise
Man 2019 made me sick. Still til this day, we had all that talent and it was pissed away cause Kyrie couldn’t lead the young guys. Hayward’s injury made room for Tatum & Brown to rapidly grow tho so it wasn’t so bad. However I believe in the Jay’s, especially Tatum. He’s grown so much and improved vastly. That’s not talked about enough, just his failures. Been just as successful as Luka in terms of accomplishments in the league
This is why I never understood why people say Celtics is a better franchise than Lakers. Lakers have consistently won championships through the decades tied, them with 17, and have GREATER players all time who have played for them in comparison to Boston.
@@vulcanraven9701 Parish, Archibald, Johnson, Walton, KG, Allen none of them are drafted. But you do have a point about the Lakers, that's why I call them hypocrites when Lakers fans was complaining about GSW getting stars coming playing with them
@@paquinraino8180 Celtics been benefitting from trades, etc. since the beginning. Bill Russell was a draft day trade. Bob Cousy ended up in Boston after his team folded. Bill Sharman was traded there after his team folded. That's 3 HOFers from their 60's core right there!
Even though they never won again I used to love watching those veteran teams clearly running in fumes playing heavy minutes leaving it all out on the floor while doc would play like a 8 man rotation which contrasted well vs the young heatles
The rest of the NBA fanbase might see it as a failure and they were overrated....but those 3 made me fall in love with basketball again. Ive been a Celtics fan my whole life, but admittedly, apart from a run here or there, they never really had a championship team between Bird and the Big three. Pierce was great, Walker, and the few that came through, but the organization drafted pretty poorly, the roster construction was never on par with the best teams in the league and the Celtic legacy kinda faded. the 90s and early 2000s really faded that prestige Boston held in the NBA. I think the Big 3 brought basketball back to Boston. If you think about it, they had what? 2 losing seasons since Ainge brought Allen and Garnett in? The Big 3 gave us a Championship and a chance. Thats the biggest thing, they gave us the feeling like Boston was back, and Boston had a chance again. And that brought back the magic to basketball for a lot of the city. They reminded everyone just how great the franchise is and renewed its legacy. Ray Allen was my favourite player in the league, and who didnt love KG deep down lol. Dude played with his heart as far out of his chest as it could possibly go. They brought O'brien back to Boston, they gave us 6 amazing years, a renewed the NBAs biggest rivalry with LA, they gave us (imo) the best series in NBA history with Boston and Chicago in 09 with KG out, and they gave us a million moments to remember. I think they certified all three as HOFers, and to top it all off they gave us Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown (indirectly), Marcus Smart and helped the franchise transition seamlessly into the next Championship core. Obviously Im biased......did they win 2, 3+ Championships.....no. Did they bring Basketball back to Boston, and do everything else? Absolutely. And thats the most important thing for me.
Some bad luck in 09 with injury to KG. 2010 they just got old . Since then few bad luck situations in a couple seasons. I think that they will get a ring or 2 in the next few years
This video did put in perspective how early JB and JT rose into playing postseason basketball. It feels like so many lost opportunities but they have barely been recognized as matured players up until the '22 run. I have had faith in this team no matter how many rings they seem to let slip away. But not winning it this year here (barring injury) would make me question the validity of the Jays as a championship duo.
JT was a 19-yr-old rookie averaging 18 points per game in his first ECF; JB, underused as a rookie, was in his 2nd year. Every single year they've been together they've made it to the playoffs: one 1st round exit, one semifinals, four ECFs & the infamous Finals appearance. only now are they really coming into their peak, and JT has just turned 26 (not even 4 weeks ago). everyone loves to forget that most greats don't win a chip before being 7 or 8 years in the league: MJ, Bron, KD were all 28; Giannis got his first at 26, so did Steph (but Steph didn't make MVP until 2022, Iguodala was finals MVP for Steph's first ring). Only the rarest of talents have won it much earlier, like 'Magic' Johnson, 20 and a few months and Finals MVP.
As a Celtic fan I always say this. We never focus on the core or bench imagine we had next up players ready to go after the so called big 3 dipped off I mean they’re were already old to begin with
Boston’s sports fans will be fine…18 🏆 in the NBA. Patriots (cmon). Red socks multiple wins. Meanwhile in MN Wolves 🏀 - 0 since ever (1989) Vikings 🏈 - 0 since ever (1961) Twins ⚾️ - 0 in 33 yrs Men’s college sports - nope Us MN fans are STRUGGLING!
As a Celtics hater (strictly because of how y’all fans treated Bill Russell) I’m glad y’all suffered so much pain 2 my heat the during this timeline since we get half the media respect. Rings over clicks.. But y’all find new ways to lease every year it’s beautiful
I thought you said you watched all of the Celtics. If you did, you'd know Rondo wasn't a tag along in the 2008. He was only one steal away from setting the record in a single finals game
Can we start slandering Tatum and that the 2022 Celtics cause there’s no way in HELL that wasn’t the most talented team in the league; in fact there’s been 3 years of tatums career that if he was really that guy they would have easily won a ring.
Imagine putting Luka on these Celtics teams. Tatum is good but these Celtics rosters have been absurdly talented. If they don’t win it this year he’s an all time bum.

You guys finished the job and it was impressive nonetheless. This year will be an interesting season to run it back tho with how the west is.
And right on cue, tonight the Celtics blew a 17 point lead to the Warriors that had a Steph Curry with 5 fouls midday through the third quarter. When Phil Jackson said they know how to lose a game, he wasn’t lying
just seen this game, just can't close a game
Yep, boston was also getting a ton of favorable calls and still couldn't do it. I guess choking runs in the franchise after spending so much time without actual success.
@@ItsMeStriderbro if choking runs in the Celtics it runs in the whole nba as genetic code. There’s straight up 10+ teams in the nba that never have and never will win a ring.
@@uhok6712 nah most of them don't even get into a position to actually choke. Celtics are routinely contenders and end up nowhere.
@@ItsMeStrider so they choked so bad they died got it.
i can understand late 80s and the entire 90s because of the tragedies that happened with the drafts, but man, that late 00s roster should never end with just one ring, front office really didnt do its job dealing with all the drama inside and the injuries shit

I meant imagine losing Kobe and Shaq btwn 1997 and 1999, and then swapping Jerry West for Jim Buss.

@@TheJoseGarcia325 my brother in christ, thats not what he meant 😂😂😂😂
@@TheJoseGarcia325wdym lol we literally just made the finals
I give a lot of credit to the celtics in the 90s mostly for the fact that two of the players meant to lead the team literally died. Like you can't do much as a franchise when that happens. The late 90s celtics under pitino really set them up for failure in the early 00s
This was great, do more of these team retrospectives, would be great 😊
2:26-2:37 What do both the 2008-09 Celtics and the 2015-16 Warriors have in common aside from their starts? Neither team won the title that season. Also worth noting, the team that won was the team they had beaten the prior Finals.
34:13 Were the Warriors actually healthy in the 2019 NBA Finals?
37:41-37:46 The Heat were the 8th seed in the 2023 NBA Playoffs
That 2010 nba finals is giving me ptsd

Not gonna complain about not getting a video for a while, now that I know you were working on a masterpiece. Thank you Dom 🐐
Unfortunately, wasted potential has been a theme for teams that play at TD Garden for the last 20 years or so. Great video!
it really came down to death of health of the old big 3, health of the new big 3, Lewis/Bias deaths, having the Mavs take Olynyk over Giannis, and health of the current crew of stars.
1 win away from banner 18, let's go Celtics!
Better chance ? They still would’ve lost to the bucks.
you should do more of this type of videos i love it. the duration matched with the comprehensive intricacies.
If Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen joined the Celtics in the early 2000's,The Celtics would have won more titles..All those guys in their prime were fantastic...
Yessss
My favorite NBA young bull the quality of your takes are legit

Dom tryna reverse engineer the Dom curse for Boston 😔
Its always a good day when Dom drops a new video 🐐
Just goes to show even making the conference finals requires a lot of things to go right, winning it all is even harder. We’ve been spoiled by the likes of Duncan, Jordan and Kobe. Most people won’t ever sniff a single conference finals never mind go win the whole thing
Duncan Robinson?
Lebron went to 10 downplay it because he lost 6 but thats impressive in itself
@@Reese1882yw Yeah it makes zero sense, he’s been to more finals himself than most franchise have in their entire existence
@@Reese1882ywyeah but he lost 6 finals and he did it in the weakest conference in nba history 😬😬
34:50 the famous "jordan rules" were also based on forcing him left just saying. not to say jaylen is anywhere near jordan of course but many players even star players have flaws in their games
Uh, no. The Jordan rules were if he goes up, put him on the ground.
jordan rules were how the pistons guarded jordan (taking him out the air) also i promise you jordan could finish w his left no issue .
u guys really gotta read your history and not the jordan propaganda
One ring in 36 years has A LOT TO DO with the curse of Len Bias
I'd argue the big three in Boston wouldn't have happened at all if Len Bias hadn't died
i was such a big kyrie fan that first year in boston. nothing angers me more than seeing him in that nets jersey, the dumb shit he did like stomping the logo. celtics went on to essentially break their roster the following year in the playoffs.
Curry owned the Celtics in 2022.
Then Curry and the Warriors owned them in the Finals.
This might be the year for the Celtics though man. seriously you have that ending growl in your voice that seals it man. You must remain an Announcer!
Who's here after June 17th, 2024
@katembo7 I mean people act like we're the Sacramento kings. Wheres the video on how the bulls franchise has done nothing before or after jordon?
Drafting Tatum was a sliding doors moment for the Celtics. In the sense that history kind of repeated itself. Bill Russell was drafted to the st Louis Hawks and then traded to the Celtics. Tatum is from st Louis. Tatum and brown will be for the Celtics what bias and Lewis should have been.
As a lakers fan I really enjoyed this video especially the Kyrie part
Hey Dom, as a diehard Lakers fan…
Congratulations
Kobe got beat by a superteam. Literally 4 hall of famers in that Celtic Team.
As a Celtics fan It’s a shame that we only won 2 rings in this century were a winning franchise we supposed to win more championships it’s in our identity I hope my Celtics will continue to win more championships like this franchise supposed to do.
Oooo, 40 minute video from Dom? Perfecto
That’s that Celtic bias😂
I dunno maybe they did
Welp, we’re champions now!!!
This was a masterpiece Dom.
1 ring 3 finals appearances? Along with consistent play-off successes, doing a lot better than most franchises
with how hyped up they been in the media, it’s pretty disappointing 💀💀💀
“A lot better” 😂. There the Celtics, they should be doing a lot better in the first place
This is not good for the Boston Celtics when you accept low expectations is when you accept mediocrity
For a big market like the Boston Celtics one ring since 2008 is mediocre!
You're a king bro and dope vid. Beantown representing!
And I’m still missing a few rings, aren’t I?
i love the zero mention on jae crowder just appearing after getting traded to be apart of teams to knock out boston but showing him in the clips

Celtics losing to the lakers really has casuals thinking Gasol is a Prime Shaq level talent.
Boston is literally a top 3 sports city in the world
That's why I think people see the Lakers as the greatest franchise ever, because let's be honest..outside the 50s to 70's where the Celtics won 13 of their 17 rings. In the modern NBA the Celtics won only 4 rings and as soon as the late 1980's expansion happened and that there's more teams in the league, they won 1 title and for most of the 90's, 2000's and 2010 they weren't that dominant outside of now ( 2020's) and the 3 years stretch of 2008-2010
yeah the lakers have been more consistently dominant
The Celtics do have the head to head though (9-3)
@@vulcanraven9701 Most of them coming from the 60's. In the last 5 head to head it's 3-2 for the Lakers
@@paquinraino8180 60s is part of nba history and nowadays, Lakers has no chance against Celtics
Historically I have never liked Celtics teams throughout 2000's and 2010's (maybe some of it due to because I was a kobe fan) but this new young team I started rooting since 2022 season. I really like them and hope they finally win it this year.
White shaving his head is the best decision in the last 36 Years.
You have been on a roll lately.
when compiled into one video, celtics just might be a cursed franchise. when you think of all the events that took place from 1986 to 2008, they absolutely are a cursed franchise
K.I. was a ball hog, straight up egomaniac. he had his 1 ring (mostly thanks to LeBron) and he was all iso, and really selfish on court.
World B Flat lmaoo. Awesome vids btw Dom - a die hard Lakers fan
This is why I never understood why people say Celtics is a better franchise than Lakers. Lakers have consistently won championships through the decades tied, them with 17, and have GREATER players all time who have played for them in comparison to Boston.
Maybe but Celtics drafted most of their stars and Lakers bought most of theirs.
@@easeman8732 I forgot about Bob Cousy, and didn't know about the others, so in the end they are like the Lakers

This aged well, they just won the Finals 4 minutes ago LOL! Nice video btw! 😂😂 ❤
I think that they will get a ring or 2 in the next few years
@38:18 “I don’t believe I’ll see a better overall game any time soon”
*2023 Warriors vs Kings Game 1 has entered the chat*
I love the 2008 Celtics. They deserve to brag. This new Celtics team hasn't won anything yet so it makes them look better to me.
As a Celtic fan I always say this. We never focus on the core or bench imagine we had next up players ready to go after the so called big 3 dipped off I mean they’re were already old to begin with
The 08 didn't have a leader to lead them on the court you had two Alpha running the team

I thought you said you watched all of the Celtics. If you did, you'd know Rondo wasn't a tag along in the 2008. He was only one steal away from setting the record in a single finals game
The irony of Dom uploading this after Tatum being once again scared of the Warriors
To be fair, it was kind of a hard time to win any championships after 2010, with the Heatles getting 8 straight chips.
Tonight’s game against the Warriors is just a microcosm and incarnation of why in the Tatum-Brown era.
