    Haven’t played drums in literally years, and getting back into it. Just ordered a new kit, now looking for some great dual pedals, and I’m leaning toward these. Thanks for the review.

    Tama anything is iron solid. Ive had my first gen speed cobras since 2009. Should prob replace the sprints but man, some 0000 fine steel wool keeps them brand new!

    to anyone wondering about making the investment that is the speed cobra 2016 models, if you are looking for a very durable pedal and confortable too, you should really go with this, at first I was like "mmm I don't know this is maybe a little expensive" however I still bought it, and after 2 months of using it, I really got used to it, and don't regret buying it. IT DOESN'T MAKE YOU PLAY FASTER, IT JUST MAKES IT EASIER FOR YOU TO GET USED TO HIGH SPEED GROOVES AND APPLY DIFFERENT TECHNIQUES SINCE IT'S WELL BUILT. Also it has a lot of power and those new rubber beaters really deliver tbh (you can also buy the wood tama beaters and it goes great with them too). So basically, they are really worth it.

    are those single or double chain driven? what's the difference in your opinion? have you ever heard of or played the old speed king pedals? they're awesome. i played drums in one of my many bands (i'm really a guitarist or was before i broke my neck) cobbling different parts together. an old speed king on one, an old square beater on the other so when i had a chance to play my drummer friend's DW 2000, i was like "geez, this feels easy" lol!
    have you tried doing doubles on each kick? that's a virgil donati thing i saw at his clinic way way back.. not sure it's actually a better way to play strait 16ths with or whatever but it's cool for fills etc.
    just been curious about the differences in the single/ double chain since they came out in the 90s. they feel a little different but i'm not a drummer.

    The problem I had with the Speed Cobras was that my cam came loose over time, and when I tried to fix this, it turned out the screw holding to had been tightened so much in the factory that the thread had popped. I had to get it drilled out. This happened with several other points on the pedal, which really limited my ability to repair, clean and just generally maintain the thing :/ might wanna be careful of that mate, just make sure you can fully dismantle it in case of breakages. Love your videos man, keep em up.

      5 year warranty now. Not sure if was when you had them. Anything happens for me I'm sending them back for new. However I've had them almost a year so far and not one problem. I think they may have improved some things on the new version 2016,

    • @ckdrums3408
      @ckdrums3408 7 років тому

      I will get rid of my SCs because I have the exact same problem. Their new "improved" 2016 hinge is actually worse than their old ones. The hinges become loose frightenly fast. And sure 5 years warranty... but do you want to send your pedals constantly to get repaired / replaced? If you have problems with wobbly parts the new SCs are just not the pedals to go...

    • @larrytate1657
      @larrytate1657 7 років тому

      I haven't had any problem wiry mine yet. It's a year old now exactly and I practice on it 3 hours a day. It's fine still but I'll keep my eye on it now. For me I have to use whatever feels most comfortable and I play best on even if it don't last quite as long as a different pedal that I'm less comfortable on. However to each his own ofcourse. Im probably going to be selling my Dw 9002.

    • @ckdrums3408
      @ckdrums3408 7 років тому

      Equipment is all about personal preference. If you're happy with your SCs, theres ofc no reason to ditch them. Today I send my pedals to tama for repair, and when I will get them back, I will sell them and get a pair of Mapex Falcons. The only Pedal that never got wobbly or wore out, were my DW9002s. But I hated how the Pedal angle always affected beater and cam angle. The result is, that the most DW9002 Cams are not equal angled, which most of the DW users dont notice until you point it out. You can even see the most dw9002 videos here on youtube.

    Never liked these, but they are leaps better than their contemporaries. I personally need some resistance on my pedal to get my articulation to be smooth. There is just to much dynamic variance on the modern, ultra light, pedals. The only thing that would make me possibly change is if they came out with a longboard OG cobra, but I doubt that will ever happen.

    No offense but do you really need high end pedals when you're not doing stuff like Origin, or The Faceless? From what ive seen you dont usually play constant double bass, more like flutters and kick patterns.

    • @silky2916
      @silky2916 7 років тому +5

      AquaAnim high end hardware is just built more solid more innovative design goes into them but no you don't need them to make ridiculous drum patterns it's just what feels good to you and building technique with hardware youve got, I recently switched from a tama hp310 pedal or something like that to a dw 3000 completely different pedal altogether but I can still only play what I've learnt on the dw one. is it's not about what you've got with drums its what you can do with it, also what bens playing caters to his needs he finds them comfortable to play that's all that matters tbh

    • @mike__durrett
      @mike__durrett 7 років тому +2

      AquaAnim You're right in some ways, but the higher end pedals are designed to get the pedal out of the way sort of. I went from some terrible pedals to DW 9000s, and I have played the fast stuff as well as the slow stuff, and can attest to the fact that better pedals help everything.

    • @AquaAnim
      @AquaAnim 7 років тому

    • @AquaAnim
      @AquaAnim 7 років тому

      Larry Tate Well marco is a big fan of single chain pedals. Which is why at his home studio he uses the original DW 5000's with single chain. I know on the road he uses the DW 9002, but ive seen him use the 2000's sometimes which are really similar to the original DW 5000's.

    Not being funny... But... Way back when you were 13 can't have been much more than 5 years ago!!.. Not that I doubt Tama make excellent gear... I actually don't understand this pedal.. The one on the left(where the hi hat sits), does what? Does it play the same bass drum or its own ? The hi hat still would sit left, obviously? If you play the hi hat what happens to the unplayed pedal? Please excuse my ignorance... It's been a while since I played. I guess trying this out is the answer, it's probably self explanatory? Nicely played BTW

      Long boards aren't about your shoe size. They allow you to play further back on the pedal to do faster stuff with less movement.
      You may notice your current pedals have a "sweet spot" that works best for you. A long board extends the sweet spot further back.

      I had the DW 9000 double pedals and 3 different parts have broke on me and each time I had to send it in for repair to the DW factory and wait about a month for each time. The cam adjusted nut came loose and would not tighten and just stayed loose and kept falling off while playing, the beater holder nut stripped off while tightening it down with not much force, and then the rubber bass drum clamps kept coming off and the metal under the rubber was scratching up my bass drum. Even though there are all different settings on the DW pedal, I feel it is too much and even then, I couldn't get the exact feel I've always been looking for. I decided to get the Tama speed cobra double pedals as a back up since they are much cheaper and to keep in case I had to send in the DW pedal again but soon as I put my feet on it and played outta the box I knew that this is what I was looking for, I didn't even tweak the spring tension to my liking just yet and it was so much more powerful, comfortable, and faster than the DW. Till this day I've had no issues at all with the speed Cobras and been using them for everything from touring, practices, rehearsals, and just a lot of hours and shows logged into them. Once I set the spring tension, beAter height to my preference, it was game over for any other pedal and especially the dws. The dws are on the shelf and I'll prolly sell those and get the iron Cobras as a backup. you don't need all that infinite cam adjuster bullshit and those other DW settings, as long as u have a beater adjuster for how far back or forward u want it, beater height adjuster, footboard adjuster, and spring tension, then that's all u need. The tama's are simple, but durable and just perfectly made. The new version Tama speed cobra and iron cobra pedals is the one I have with the updated bass plate being more stable and updated bolts and bearings. Smoothest fast pedal yet so powerful. I've had the same experience with a 4 piece DW collectors maple mahogany drums which cost as much as my damn car, sold it and bought a 5 piece 2016 Tama starclassic BB hyperdrive kit in the exact finish I've always wanted straight from the Tama warehouse and couldn't be happier for only a tiny fraction of the price compared to the DW. Paid 5,500 for the 4 piece DW, paid 1,969 for the 5 piece Tama kit which also came with the new hardware updates brought down from the Tama star line like the quick lock rack tom mounts, quick lock floor tom legs, air cushioned floor tom legs, the new swive wing mounting system which is by far the best mounting system ever with the quick lock invention, just pure genius by Tama. If anyone has never tried to quick lock tom brackets if you are a gigging drummer and want your drums set up exactly the same way in the same exact position everytime, then you need this trust me. For me being ocd about my set up, it's the perfect kit for me with those features. And just looks and sounds and durability and hardware and build quality, Tama beats the DW kit in every aspect and the fact I can buy another 3 Tama of these Tama kits for the price of that one shitty DW kit, it's just mind blowing to me.
