I ended up getting a Ping G430 10k and its been unreal. I got it yesterday in the mail and took it out on the course, I hit every single fairway and it was an unreal experience. The distance was only a few yards longer than my current G430 Max, but the toe hits (which are my miss) never went anywhere but dead straight. Ping really made the best driver out of the 2024 models.
I have a 430 max and was really looking forward to the 10k just to see. Unreal head, absolute unicorn…. But. I managed to get a test of the new st max at club champion and wow, sound and feel for me and £120 cheaper. Don’t sleep on the Mizuno, it’s insane
Love my g430 max, bought the 10k and it's up for sale, slower club head speed and less ball speed, both are so easy to hit, normal g430 max is better for me just as straight and longer.
I purchased the 430 max 10k and had to take it back the next day. I was hitting it 25 yards less than my 410 plus. I am guessing it had more to do with the shaft of the 430 because I couldn't keep my spin numbers under 4K. I ended up exchanging it for the Qi10 LS and absolutely love it. Way more forgiveness than you would expect and it sounds great. I was hesitant to even consider the LS model since my swing speed is only in the high 90s. Whatever you decide go get fitted.
Good advice, did you get fitted for the Max 10K originally? The fitter has a lot to answer for if so! Qi10 LS is a great head for certain delivery conditions 👍
You probably can’t go wrong here, but I went with the PXG, felt right and the adjustability it offers with the three weights allowing you to really get it dialed in while giving you the flexibility to “future proof” it over the years.
I’ve ended up with the Wilson. Tested best for me but initially wouldn’t buy it as not a “top” brand. Bought one of the big names but then picked up a Wilson on EBay for very little. Tried it on the course and fantastic- now staying in the bag!

Really comprehensive, I love it. That said, I would try to normalize the swing speed numbers buy deleting shots that were slower. It would be easier to compare carry yardage and ball speed numbers.
2 days ago I literally went to get fitted thinking id walk away with the Qi10 or Ai Smoke. Good but hit some off target shots. I hit the Ping...every single one went dead straight. It was unreal. I could feel mishits and they still went somewhat straight. It's not impossible to hit a bad shot...but the technology they're using works. Now looking at review videos to see where it ranked, The Ping was THE one to get. As advertised!
Really impress with the PING G430 max 10k this year. Most forgiving, most consistent, and the distance looks good too with low spin numbers. Don't think I have seen anything like that before.
Great review Joe, all the best in your new role - as seen from the review your spot on and a great addition to Golf Monthly. I especially liked where you picked up the shaft length variance especially where the driver depth is flattened, no-one else has picked that up. Also the price comparison is spot on which is a factor when looking at new clubs.
Oh my goodness! I was just about to say the same thing! I had a day of sunshine today and was able to get out the course with my R7 SuoerQuad (inherited from my grandfather). I am sure these drivers are great, but these old R7’s feel so good. I had a free today that I just got to stand back and watch fly-still exhilarating years later! Cheers!
Lol. I have gotten newer drivers a few times since my original R7 and always go back to it. Still swing it a couple days a week. Maybe it's the weight of the head? Idk but it just feels much better than the newer ones.
Gotta love how the. TSR3 is still crushing a lot of those drivers on your stats list. Appears to provide the most optimized numbers, along with the Darkspeed. All the other drivers that were longer, are a bit too low on spin.
I purchased a PXG black ops because I was hitting it so much better at their store. Once I got the driver, it turns out to be hot trash. Return it, pay for restocking fee, back to my Sim 2 max.
Valid point. The dispersion data is a bit misleading as the Max head has a draw bias to it meaning the overall dispersion number was left, but the grouping was incredibly tight which is what I was getting at. Could have explained that better to be fair
