  • WHAT HELPED ME IN MY CURLY HAIR JOURNEY (POROSITY, DENSITY, STRAND THICKNESS) Curl type didn't!
    when I started my curly hair journey I focused a lot on CURL PATTERN. But this didn't help me much. Today I am giving you more insight on porosity, density & hair strand thickness. These are the things that helped me the most!

    Low porosity :
    Benefit from using steam when deep conditioning
    Protein isn't needed frequently
    Prone to fairy knots
    Prone to build up
    Styled hair can last longer
    It's important to be more mindeful of ingredients used
    Difficulty taking in things like hair dye
    Can love humectants
    Medium density:
    Can be easier to achieve volume or avoid it
    Can use a variety of products
    Medium/fine hair:
    Can benefit from proteins and lighter ingredients.

    This was a well researched video. It was easily understood. Now I understand it finally.
    I would love a video explaining the ingredients list. Like what all of those words mean. Which ones indicate protein, moisturizing, etc. And then how one chooses a shampoo/conditioner/styles based on what your hair needs.

    I got downvoted on reddit because I said that the type didn't matter at the moment of creating a routine (it was someone asking for help in what would be the best routine for their pattern, but I have had times in ther where people get that our hair my look similar, but their hair loves oils and butters, and mine hates them)
    Btw, your hair looks beautiful!

      oh no! A lot of people don't really know about porosity, thickness etc so they solely rely on curl pattern. I did this when I started and it didn't do anything for me. The science behind hair is so interesting & thank you so much! :)

    I am a medium all around, the longer my hair gets the more I learn 😂. I thought I had coarse strands and high density when my hair was above bra strap, I think it was just the curls clumping together that made my hair feel and look this way. Now I can see that my hair is medium now that I’m a few inches away from TBL. My curls have started to get weighed down and it makes me miss the volume 😂.

    I love your hair 😍😍😍 I feel like since starting my curly hair journey, my hair is a lot curlier & healthier but I’m losing a lot of hair that I think it’s so thin now & I’m losing all of my thickness🥲😭 any recommendations? I think your hair got so much thicker now that your hair is super healthy!

    • @AlexasCurls
      @AlexasCurls  2 роки тому +1

      So it's usual to lose 50-100 strands of hair daily. So if you don't wash too often you'll see a lot of hair come out on washday. This typically happens to me since I tend to wash once a week & sometimes every 3-4 days. If you think it's an abundance amount of hair that might be extremely more than what I just said, I'd definitely recommend to go see a trichologist!

    My hair takes forever to get wet but dries really fast. Sometimes i even wonder if it was wet at all💀
    I really have no idea what my porosity is

  • @helenlowen5341
    @helenlowen5341 2 роки тому +2

    I still can't figure out what is my porosity, because I get different results based on the "test" I do. Yes my hair gets wet kinda easily (it forms beads when I spray it but in like 10 seconds it gets wet) which suggests I've got high porosity even though I've always thought it was because I have thin hair. I've got virgin hair though (I haven't even used heat in years), and when I take the strand and feel it, it's completely smooth with no bumps at all, which suggests that my hair is low porosity. Although all the other things don't match. Does it mean I have medium porosity?

      I don't know, but I we've the same problem, gurl. 😂 💕

    • @AlexasCurls
      @AlexasCurls  2 роки тому +1

      I’d say you most likely have medium porosity hair. Do you find your hair retains moisture really well? Or does it seem like moisture escapes pretty easily? If you deep condition do you find you need to steam / apply heat for it to work?

    • @helenlowen5341
      @helenlowen5341 2 роки тому

      @@AlexasCurls thank you in advance for your help!
      I'd say it can retain moisture pretty well but not too much, for example to air dry it completely it usually takes about two hours (when I'm not in the heat, in the winter it takes longer) and it's pretty humid where I live, so if I go out in the summer and it's hot and humid, it takes forever to dry. Also the thing is, it is very soft but it looks frizzy and also dry at times. And even if I use styling products and the denman brush, I don't get defined curls, it's almost better when I use nothing at all (but only in the summer). I find that products really heavy it down even if I apply them with soaking wet hair. I've only used hair masks and never deep conditioners because I'm afraid I'm gonna choose the wrong product once again :') with masks I generally don't need heat to help them work better.
      I just recently (one year) started using products and styling my hair, but I still can't figure out what I should do or how to correctly treat it.
