    Hi, i live there 8 years now and the wet season is also enjoyable, it does not rain every day, in fact the last years have not been wet enough !! The windy season or dry season can be cooler and the wind can be a bit much sometimes..Generally the climate is super mild and nice...

    Oh, it's definitely not brutal in the rainy season. It rarely rains all day, often it's beautiful in the morning and the rain comes later in the day/night. Everything turns green, it's still warm, no dust on the dirt roads, truly the rainy season is a lovely time of year in Vilcabamba.

    Greetings from Colorado! 🌸🌲🌸
    Vilcabamba looks beautiful, with such stunning scenery!
    I'm new to your channel, (but binge-watching), and I haven't yet seen you talk about the wildlife of places you've been in Ecuador. Have you gone on any wildlife viewing tours? I guess that Ecuador has quite a few jaguars. Do they come into the towns, or do they avoid people?
    I'm in Southern Colorado, and we occasionally get bears raiding the trashcans. i also did see a mountain lion walking right down the shoulder of I-25, one night on my way back from Denver. It was about 5 miles North of my house.

    Don’t be afraid to say it. Cuenca can be damn cold like Quito. If that’s not cold enough try Tulcan in the province of el Carchi, that’s freezing but has a beautiful cemetery that’s very well known.

      Yes. It can be cold here. I miss the warmth!

    • @norviato1
      @norviato1 5 років тому

      Amelia And JP - it was over 90 degrees here in Florida today, and people in Ecuador call Guayaquil hot, they have no idea. I did a couple of things in the garden and came in soaked from perspiration. This would be hell on earth without air conditioning. I lived in Ibarra for one year and the weather was dry, warm and perfect, Otavalo nearby is cold like Quito or Cuenca with sunny days in the summer. Where on this planet can you choose climate according to altitude within a short distance? Vilcabamba is slightly higher than Denver without snow out the ying yang, can’t ask for better! 🌈

      *FACT: The relative humidity is high YEAR-ROUND everwhere in Ecuador*, including in the so-called coastal "deserts" in the southwest where rainfall is extremely low for about half the year. I've done countless searches on sites that provide meteorological data by city, and the lowest average relative humidity I've found for anyplace in Ecuador is 68% during the driest month of the year. I would really love to be proved wrong, but so far I haven't seen any data that does that.

    I know this is going back in time for your videos but I'd like to get your opinion, you have traveled all over Ecuador and seen what makes each part special, but focusing on Vilcabamba which I see as special because of its quaintness, size, & pristine beauty, and that's what makes it special, I also have seen this same quality where I have lived in places like Kauai, Hawaii and even Northern Michigan and with their special size and great vibe they were sold and bought over and over again and lose their special quality and became tourist sights and not the local economy but bought out by influential people. Everyone has the right to do what they want but the local people and the Shangri la quality of the little secluded Vilcabamba is online, being sold like a hustlers auction, It may make a lot of money for the developers and realtors but after it's been bought and sold where does the uniqueness go, what happens to the local lifestyle? So, what's the fate of the quaint unique little towns like Vilcabamba, Loja, and close mountain towns?

  • @pandaosa9

    • @AmeliaAndJP
      @AmeliaAndJP  3 роки тому +6

      We felt very safe there. It’s a small town and everyone knows everyone. I think gringos put out a lot of misinformation to scare people off. We received several nasty messages from gringos telling us to go away and stop filming. We don’t share that fear based scarcity mentality.

      We didn't do much shopping so we can't say much about the cost of living. The taxi minimum was $1.25 compared to Cuenca's $1.50. The food at restaurants was about the same as Cuenca, but we only ate in the gringo spots and they charge a little more than the local hangouts. We're going to stay in an AirBnB on our next trip so we can cook our own food. That'll give us a better idea of costs.

We visited the moors, beautiful, outrageous rolling hills and the seasides are to die for, sheep roaming about, wild horses that come right up to the cars and the pubs have the best food, the Sunday roasts that all restaurants serve are amazing. Now that's beauty, I find Ecuador to be a lot of cement, dry land and not much to do. England has so many things to do for retired couples, dancing, going to pubs meeting so many people, archery, lawn bowling, so many many things that they don't have here. If I could afford it, I would move there in a heart beat.

    I know you can appreciate that. Veelcabamba, right?
    The vowels in spanish (vocales) are A like in father, E like eh in , I as previously mentioned, O the long type like OH, and U like the oo in moo. There are possibly no variants.
    I know it might seem like work, but it is what keeps the pronunciation from taking on a sour note when heard by spanish speakers.

    I enjoy your videos, but you didn't see Vilcabamba before all the influx. If you were to talk to those that Vilcabamba is their ancestral home you would find another story. They are marginalized now and live mostly in the outskirts. While all the old and some new hippies skip to the beat of a different drum. It is no longer the place it used to be, and I did one don't like my people being priced out of living in their own city. Part of the blame goes to the government that should have protected them and part lies to those living g there now that didn't take the time go find out the going rates for rentals etc and paying what for them was very cheap.
    You do a great job, but please don't get ripped off and at the same time hurt those who's town your changing. (Speaking in general, not you specifically).

    Locals don’t wear shorts in Ecuador. Wanna stick like a sore thumb: wear shorts AND a hat 🤦🏼‍♂️

      Most of the locals here in Olón wear shorts AND hats. They don't in the mountain towns because the locals are always cold for some reason. I often saw people wearing winter coats while I was in short sleeves.

    The Incas never had vacations in Vilcabamba, Ecuador, they had vacations in Vilcabamba, Peru. Get your facts straight.

      Peru didn’t exist when the Incas ruled the area. Vilcabamba is currently in Ecuador.
