    Ecuador seems like the Florida of the 1950s that I remember.
    Growing up in Florida: The air felt good and smelled wonderful! The flowers were beautiful and a comfort to the spirit. The. People seemed friendly and not snobbish; inclusive.
    And my sponsor child with ChildFund is in Quito.

    The Holiday Inn Guayaquil is excellent and accommodating. It is located at the entrance to the airport, so transport time is about 30 seconds. It's a 5 minute drive to the Terminal Terrestre (15 min. walk) and a 20 minute ride to the US Consulate.

    I lived in Guayaquil for 9 months and Cuenca for about 2 years. I always preferred the bus from the 2 cities. It's only 4 hours and it's awe inspiring going thru the mountainous parts. Any time I have a 3 hour wait between bus to airplane or airplane to bus, I always take a taxi to the Restaurant Resaca on the Malacon, where Junin meets the Malecon. I have lived in Peru for 4 years now and while Chupe de Pescado (fish stew) is a Peruvian dish, Resaca Bar Restaurant makes it better than anywhere I have found in Peru. Get the Chupe de Pescado Limon and it comes with both fish and shrimp for about $13 dollars 4 years ago. It is a large serving that will fill you up and well worth the price!

    Good information in this video. I heard American Airlines will fly from Dallas to Guayaquil and Quito starting in mid December. I came back 4 weeks ago from Ecuador and I spent 5 days in Cuenca with the group of retired teachers from Rapid City. We stayed in the Paraiso de Betania B&B. It has very nice rooms, free parking, small garden, good price and a quiet place. The breakfast is included.

    For those of that travel from the NYC area this December JetBlue will have non-stop flights form JFK to GYE arriving around 8:30pm. Latam is the other airline that has a non-stop flight from JFK to GYE but it is a redeye.

      The one thing I like about the LATAM flight is you can get a flat bed, even though it is a red eye. It is always good to have another nonstop flight, though.

    These two people are absolutely adorable. Thank you for sharing all this information about my country!!! Just a quick update: LATAM is no longer flying directly to Guayaquil from Miami. American still is. JetBlue, Spirit and TAME all flight directly out of Ft. Lauderdale (out of those 3 i'd recommend TAME). LATAM flights to New York directly from GYE. JetBlue will start flying to directly from NYC in December, as well as American Airlines from Dallas. If you live outside of MIAMI and NYC, you can always take a connecting flight making a stop in CDMX, Panama City, Bogota, Cali, San Salvador or Lima. If you're in Europe, there are straight flights from Guayaquil to MADRID AND AMSTERDAM. Also something to keep in mind: Uber currently operates in Guayaquil and Quito (I highly recommend this over taking a cab: less expensive and safer).

    Tarmac is a substance, passengers some times walk to their flight on the.....ramp

    A journey on the same airplane and flight number, with a stop along the way...is a direct flight or through flight

    as a Pilot over 54 years, there is no "tarmac" on any airport I ever saw. The correct term for where you "deplane" & walk is the "ramp". Even when perfectly flat, it is called the "ramp". The use of "tarmac" originated in a novelist's error man years back.
    Thanks for all the info. Rick

    Airport in Guayaquil is very nice in the gates. Wifi was pretty good. Last chance to get some traditional Ecuadorian food before you fly off. :) If you drive from Guayaquil to Cuenca has absolutely stunning views but not for the weak of heart as most of the drivers take risk passing slower vehicles on those winding mountain roads. I also noticed the flights going into Cuenca are very expensive!! I stayed in the hotel presidente which was really nice. It was around 35-40 for the night (which was fine for an overnight stay).

Thinking of checking out Cuenca in November, Been to both Guayaquil and Quito (first time like 40 years ago), but haven't been there in at least 15 years maybe? • @AmeliaAndJP
      @AmeliaAndJP  5 років тому +2

      Correct, but it doesn't make much sense to fly from Guayaquil through Quito to Cuenca. That's about 1.5 hours in the air, plus you have to be at the airport an hour early and another hour layover minimum in Quito. That's 3.5 hours, which is the same amount of time it takes to drive from Guayaquil to Cuenca in the buseta. A buseta ticket is only $12.

    Thank you, guys, great info! You may also want to let people know that the US has changed the rules on pet cargo as of January this year. Pets crates can't be taller than 30". That's due to the plane (737 Max8) they always used being grounded. Our beloved Labradoodle is 30" tall (requiring a crate of 35") so she is unable to come with us, at least on an airplane.There may be other ways (that also cost $$) and people should check that out thoroughly if they are determined to bring a pet of a certain size. It's not as easy as it used to be and as we had read about in everything. Anyway! Keeping positive and being able to bring our smaller dog helps ease the blow somewhat. Love to you and Amelia! ❤

    Hi again guys. I'm in Tucson. So, I'll have a stop in Houston. Then on to Quito, and Cuenca. I remember the Quito Airport in 2015. It was nothing compared to your latest video. I stayed in Quito a few days. Then went on to Lima Peru for a couple of months. And then on to Santiago for 3 months. I had to go back to the States because I lost my passport somehow. Had to do business with the US Embassy in Santiago in order to get an emergency passport to fly back to the States. I spent some time visiting my families on the East coast. Then quickly flew back to Chile. Where I spent almost 3 years there teaching online English. However. I have decided to become a full time expat in Cuenca. My goal is to get there around the 1st of Nov. Question...when is the best time to book a spot at Ottorongo on their website? I hope I don't end up in New Zealand! lol

      Our dogs didn't have any issues with the altitude. The dog food is more complicated. Daisy is allergic to grains and has a very sensitive stomach so we buy expensive grain-free dog food for her and mix it with food we make for her (lentils, peas, sweet potatoes and carrots). We haven't seen pee pads here, but we haven't looked since both our dogs are house trained.

    Great info but some data is not accurate.
    This is the current offering Ecuador-USA
    AA
    MIA double daily from both UIO and GYE. Only one Quito flight isn't a red eye. The changes are due to the Boeing 737 MAX contingency that was used for UIO. PRO TIP: One of the two daily flights from GYE is on a double aisle aircraft and if you're flying business that's a very nice flat bed. Currently AA 757s filling in for the MAX in UIO also have flatbeds
    From November one daily flight to Dallas Fort Worth from both UIO and GYE. Great for connecting flights into the Midwest and western Pacific coast/Dakotas
    Spirit
    One daily from GYE to FLL Only. Does not fly to Quito. It is a red eye
    JETBLUE
    One daily to FLL from both UIO and GYE. On peak summer season there's a second daily from UIO. Only an hour apart so both red eyes.. from December it will also fly from GYE to JFK.
    UNITED
    One daily front Houston to Quito. In early Winter sometimes offers an additional flight early morning
    Delta
    One daily from ATL to UIO. Red eye. Used to fly to GYE but sadly stopped service.
    LATAM
    Only flies from JFK to GYE. No Miami flight. Used to have one from UIO several years ago
    TAME
    5 times a week operates GYE to FLL. It doesnt charge for bags! Up to 2 bags for free...
    And that's it... roughly 100 weekly departures from Ecuador to the US and viceversa.
    Cuenca airport can't handle long routes cause it's runway is very short and sits at high altitude. Might be replaced eventually...
    Copa and Avianca are also options from select markets in the US via PAnama and San Salvador. Also aeromexico though MEX airport is a disaster. Copa has 6 daily departures from UIO and 6 from GYE so a lot of flexibility and short connecting times.
    Quito airport is starting an expansion process and GYE will be replaced in roughly a decade.

      Great additional info! However, LATAM does have flights between Miami, and both Quito and Guayaquil according to their website. We also can’t find any flights to the US on Tame. Are they using JetBlue or Spirit?

    • @johensville
      @johensville 5 років тому

      @@AmeliaAndJP nope. LATAM has codeshare agreements with American. Not a single LATAM plane leaves for Miami from Ecuador.

    I'm coming with my family middle of October and I'll be back to Canada middle of December I was wondering if is going to be the dry season or will be a rainy season ? I'm not sure what type of clothes to pack for those dates special I'm coming with a little 1 year old girl, thanks in advance for any help with my question.

      That's the dry season, although it will still rain occasionally so bring an umbrella and/or rain jacket. It will be in the 70's and mostly sunny during those months, but chilly in the evenings. You'll want a jacket and long pants.

    How save is to take taxi from Guayaquil to Cuenca. Our flight comes to Guayaquil around 7:00 pm. How long is the drive to Cuenca, what is approximate cost for that drive? Thank you in advance.

    • @AmeliaAndJP
      @AmeliaAndJP  4 роки тому

      When are you arriving in Guayaquil? The roads into Cuenca and out of Guayaquil have been blocked due to the protest. If you really need to get to Cuenca, you will need to fly. The airport is still open.
      A Taxi will probably cost $80-100 and will take about 3.5 hours.

    • @AmeliaAndJP
      @AmeliaAndJP  4 роки тому

      You can rent a car. You'll recognize all the familiar brands by the airport. You're allowed to drive in Ecuador with a valid driver's license from another country during the 90 day tourist visa. Once you get your temp resident visa, you need to pass the driving test and get an official Ecuadorian driver's license.
