I think he got taken when he bought these Perth bars, but had no clue how to get it tested. He was selling because he lost everything in a fire. I feel bad for him, and believe he really did not know, because he refunded very fast (immediately after learning it was fake), even before I shipped it back at his expense. He was apologetic, and I think he simply didn't know.

Respect your opinion but I think Orwell was more of a futurist. He saw what was happening already since the creation of federal reserve and theororized what would happen. Little by little, bit by bit everything implied by the book is happening now.

Don’t buy eBay stuff under spot. It’s fake. It’s the buyers fault. When he goes back to try and get the money back, the seller won’t be there anymore.
He had a month to go get it tested and make a case against it. Maybe more if he used a CC and can dispute that way. Last case maybe report it to the feds as it’s illegal to do so. 🤷♂️

I bought a coin that i knew was fake. I then contacted the seller (they were still there) and told them i would be contacting the authorities in regards to them selling counterfeit currency. Got my money back and then took a blow torch to the coin.

You don't understand how much I respect Tim, he has been a wealth of knowledge and I would never try to cheat him. He is such a good guy. Paid 40 bucks below spot for the gold, and prefer to stack silver. I knew Tim would test it, and if it was fake, I also knew that eBay would make good. 100% money back policy on purchases over $500.00 Not the first time I got fake stuff, and they made good then, too. Still, I have a lot of silver that all tested good, and all bought under spot, all on eBay.

Seems as if we've gone from one VERY expensive screw-up to another with the banks.
I think the glitches the last year or so have been a foreshadowing of what's coming - loss of access altogether, digits flip-flopping in and out. Dollar cost average your personal bank runs, just like your metals. Years ago, a friend had his bank accounts frozen due to identity theft shenanigans. Thankfully, he hadn't left everything in there, and had enough set by to get legal help and live the next 6-8 months while he had to pay to fight the results of someone else's actions. Go slow, but get it all out except what you need to cover certain bills and surprises. I will never forget his distress and what he went through that he was even willing to discuss. Bail-ins will happen at some point, better that they get pennies at most from you.
I just hate how much commerce has moved to the Internet. You need some sort of bank and a card to interact with so much of the economy now. I just try to only keep a months worth of auto pay on my account.
@@Joutube_is_trash Setting yourself free from autopay is the next step. I hate when my bank card updates, and I find that I've had forgotten autopay things leeching my account. Changed the whole way I bank, and avoid autopay. That's how we got unions everywhere and people aren't as mad about the tax bills -- it comes out automatically instead of having to do something every month. I'm not against unions, they serve a purpose initially, but turn into a mess and are more problematic than helpful.

I think that's a little harsh. Unless you can read minds, how do you know that he knew the bar was fake? It's a lot more likely that
he *suspected* it might be fake but did not *know* that for a fact. Once it was tested, however, the truth became *known*.
He said he comes in there all the time. I dont think he would try to sell a knowingly fake bar to a place that he frequents.
He suspected it might be fake and he knew Tim would test it. No attempted fraud occurred, in my opinion.

There is nothing wrong with buying precious metals on eBay. Just buy from a reputable dealer. And if the deal looks too good to be true, it is.

I’m 81 and sometime before I was born the government called in gold except for a small amount that people were allowed to keep under penalty of law. I inherited a gold dollar and my grandfather’s gold watch. What’s to keep them from repeating this scenario?

I do, I buy from known dealers and high rated sellers. When I get it it goes on the sigma.
I buy all my ASE'S slabbed certified from some great dealers that have been selling for years. I buy my monster boxes from a dealer in my home town. We barter my gold for his monster boxes no cash or paper trail.
There are legit dealers on ebay with many thousands of positive feedback. But from an individual? No way.

Especially now... Companies have the technology to produce extremely good fakes! Like the other guy said... People buy them and never have them checked to verify that they are real! So, when the time comes to liquidate... They have no recourse to the seller and are left with a very expensive paperweight!

Perth guy here. As soon as the guy held up the 1oz Perth Mint Gold bar...knew it was a fake. Sadly, there are too many fakes. Knowledge of what you stack is crucial.
I bought two 100 ounce JM bars on eBay about six weeks ago right at spot. Never got them. Guy built up good feedback over the last three years and then posted a half million worth of precious metals over Easter weekend and no one ever received any of it. He even shipped out empty boxes to bogus addresses so they would keep bouncing all over local post offices and never arrive. He took the money and ran. Huge scam. eBay made me whole though.

If only there was a way to bottle the wisdom of Tim and people like him. He reminds me of my dad before alzheimers. I didn't understand how important the electoral college is. I was pretty dumb, and bought in to the idea that popular vote was all that was needed.
Now that I'm a senior citizen, I'm trying to impart a little knowledge to the youngsters in my family, and a couple young men who work at my Dollar General. They're cousins, probably 18, or 19 years old. They've graduated high school, but they don't know anything about America. I go to the store every Friday night. One night they were talking about foreign coins they'd inherited from their grandpa, (they're cousins) I asked if they had any American coins, they didn't know. So I told them to look at the coins and I'd be happy to tell them about any American coins they might have. They began bringing coins for me to look at. I can tell you that once you have their attention and interest, young people are thirsting for knowledge and soak it up like a sponge. Now every Friday I bring a coin from my type set and tell them about it, and some of the history associated with the coins. This past Friday I was looking at my change, and one of the boys asked me why I always did that, so I explained I was looking for silver. Neither of them were aware we had silver coins as recently as we did. It's very refreshing to have youngsters wanting information. They'll be checking the change drawer from now on, and that's good, I'd be happy to see them find some silver.
A couple weeks ago I didn't go to the store, and the next time I was in they grabbed me and said they were so glad to see me, they were afraid something had happened to me. 😊

I was very lucky to have my dad, grandpa, and two uncles who were coin collectors. They all taught me about US coins, and I got to tag along to coin shops and shows. I still have my 1972 photograde dad bought me. Still refer to it.
We have a great hobby and if we don't pass it on, it'll disappear.
Wonderful. I have impacted a bunch of pre-teens to follow along with me. Keen eyed and full of life.When I show 6hem the 450 pounds of silver I have amassed that really caught their attention. So now I pick up a sleve of 25 Maples for them to purchace. I pay my lawn mower girls with silver and a few shops downtown that will take silver for their wares. Love that small town way of thinking.

My theory is, the United States Dollar will continue to be used, but merchants and regular people will prefer copper, silver, and gold in whatever form measured in grams, oz, etc.
Things may become cheaper with metals and more expensive with US Dollar and Credit Cards.

Over the past 50 years, gold has yielded annual returns of 8%. In the past 20 years, 8.8%. Not as good as the stock market, but I'm still buying the dips in both gold and silver. Gold in assay cards fool people all the time. I have at least one shop who won’t buy gold in assay cards real or not. It’s definitely not a security feature in my eyes
They can remove the card, will they take it then?

Costco sells bars in essay. I couldn’t imagine any reputable dealer not buying or selling gold in essay cards
They read the same way in or out of an assay card on the Sigma tester. Just about every reputable dealer owns a Sigma now so I'm wondering why they wouldn't buy bars. Oh well.
I am not a fan of them but if it was a decent deal I would buy. I like to physically hold it not plastic.

Several of the so called reputable dealers sell on Ebay.
In the video, that bar looked pretty good in the assay case. This is a great justification for having a Precious Metals Verifier (I have the Pro and picked it up at SD Bullion). Like Ronnie Reagan used to say "trust but verify"....

I bought from private party exactly once. Seemed vaguely sketch so when i got out to my car i scratched a bar, to find brass or something underneath.
I'm usually pretty chill but i went back to that dude to explain how his wife and kids will miss him if he's gone.
Saw him hawking the same stuff on Facebook a week later. Some ppl you can't help.

Apparently, with the gold rush in China, there’s a serious rash of fake bars. It’s so bad People are setting up shop on the streets with a haphazard testing services they’ve just learned online.
Hopefully that man will be back with real gold next time. He was easy going about it. He is right though, EBAY, protects sellers now more than ever.
Got an immediate refund from the seller without having to open a case. He got taken and felt awful, did not have a shop like Tim's where he could get it tested. Seller refunded BEFORE I even shipped back the fake.

20:11 I saw on Pawn Stars where they drilled into a silver bar to make sure the core wasn't replaced. The Sigma verifier only sees a tiny bit into the surface. That must be why Tim said it "appears" to be genuine.
I don't know how the Sigma machines work but thought that they did an ultrasonic speed test. If so, the ultrasound penetrates deeply
into a bar, round, or coin. More likely in Tim's case, it was the shape of the bar that caused a bit of doubt in the bar's authenticity.
@@edb3877 If that's the case, then Pawn Stars needlessly drilled into a silver bar. I've seen how Sigmas have a hard time on bumpy surfaces and I was told it's because it's scattering the signal away. I guess that would happen to sound, too. I should find out exactly how they work.
