DON'T STACK THIS SILVER OR GOLD! Bullion that is simply NOT WORTH THE "GRADE"

  • In this video I’m going to discuss certified--or graded--bullion coins. As a stacker, I strongly feel one should AVOID buying graded gold and silver. I’ll also tell you when "grades" really DO matter. Any make sure to watch to the end to see me cut out one of slabbed coins. The Sheldon coin grading scale, created in 1949 and then improved in the 70s went a LONG WAY in helping numismatists determine the quality of coins--from “worn” all the way to “perfect". People buy higher-premium graded silver and gold coins for a lot of reasons, and I discuss some of them while we look at my three graded items--an "ultra cameo" 1982-S George Washington commemorative half dollar, graded by NGC as a PF69, an MS69 "First Strike" gold buffalo that I bought from Tim last year, and an MS70 George Patton collector coin as a total splurge! Bottom line? When stacking bullion, “grades” don't matter! However, before I cut the gold buffalo out of its "plastic prison", I let you in on when super-high grades DO matter! Gold found in a gold mine! Protect yourself from out-of-control governments, evil central banks, and the failing US dollar's grip as the world's reserve currency. Make sure you build a stack of silver rounds, silver bars, silver coins, and gold coins as essential barter and wealth preservation!

I hit my 40 oz of silver today !! Even thought it’s not all in one type , 21 ounces in buffalos and the rest in random silver rounds and coins. Not bad considering i started this January and I took a month break from buying.

But I'm glad your in the game .
It's definitely a few things every American should have is Gold & silver .
I got A.s.e. a few times here and there in year's past .
But now I'm in the game since January myself and got Rookie numbers as well, but on the other hand it's what you can afford and it's the long game in this and fir safety of J.I.C.S.H. ..

I had to take a mini break because o was going to a large concert here in Florida and needed as much as possible. I managed to snag 2 buffalos at spot in Daytona on Saturday so it wasn’t a total waste of my day lmao. 40 isn’t bad , if I didn’t take the break I’d probably have close to 150-200 . I’m back in the game now boys 😂

One coin/ounce at a time. 20 years from now when silver is $200 an ounce you can sit down and look back at the start in 2024. By then you should have at least 10 thousand ounces, 500 ounces a year is a possible target. Congrats on your first 40 ounces and a future silver fortune of 2 Million Dollars...

PF = Proof. Specially prepared dies (polished). The planchettes (coins) are typically struck twice to bring up all the details on the dies. The planchettes are also typically polished or at least carefully rolled and cut prior to striking. MS = Mint State. Planchettes are mass produced and single struck on regular production dies. MS coins typically have a frosty appearance while proof have a mirrored appearance.

I have bought graded silver eagles, but only as gifts. The one exception is the type one and type two silver eagles, I did buy one of each in a PCGS slab. Not because I thought they'd be more valuable down the line. I just wanted them.
My type set is a different story. Every coin is a slabbed example in the best condition I can afford. It's often times several months between additions to my type set. Sure is rewarding when I do get that next coin.

Great video, metal does tarnish over time, it gets spots of various types etc, both gold and silver, it is just what it does and it can take many years. However the one good thing about bullion is that you do not need to be concerned too much by the condition. Most of my gold coins for example are best value gold sovereigns, that means they are worn, that is the way I like it and most of my Silver Eagles are toned and worn and they are lovely. Life is too short to be worried about scratches and digs and the grade, just buy the metal and stack as you say. Great video. A bullion dealer will likely only pay the bullion price for graded coins as well. I think there is an easier way, towel on top and bash with a hammer gently.

I've basically figured out that graded bullion, unless it's for "rare" dates, is virtually useless. I walked an MS70 $50 American Gold Eagle around an ANA coin show and was basically offered a tad above spot and not much over raw. Grade silver Eagles are even worse and almost all treated as raw essentially.

If you can get a slabbed coin for regular price, then should leave it in the slab because it authenticates it better. If I’ve got 2 guys offering me a gold buffalo for half of a cow, and one is slabbed, I’m taking that one. But agree to not pay extra as you did with Tim.

The only graded & slabbed stuff I hold is pre-33 gold and pre-21 silver. For those I go high grade and specific dates & mints for greater numismatic value as a collectible. I'm also buying graded/slabbed at a market bargain, not just automatically buying like I would stacking material. The bulk of my stack is bullion, not slabbed. Two products, kept for two purposes. I also found it humorous you broke the Buffalo out of the slab and then put it in another case for the bullet. Oh, I do buy graded ASE's for my grandson (MS69 brown label NGC - not the up priced early blah blah blah high premium stuff). Buy when first released every year starting when he was born in 2018. I'll give them to him when he is an adult, but he likes to see them with my stacked supply in the safe now and understands those are special. I'm hoping he will appreciate stacking early. Those are not for a profit, but more for him in the future to remember us by and hopefully start his own stack and collection.

When ASE’s are $5-7 premiums. And you can pick up GRADED ASE 69s & 70s on whatnot for about $9-10 premium (if your patient and careful). A lot of times, depending on their designation, these coins are bringing $30-50 premiums on eBay. There’s a lot of room there to make a few bucks.
I typically stay away from slabbed bullion but I’ll admit I’ve been guilty of picking them up when the premium ends up being just an extra couple bucks. They’re so pretty!

Graded coins are more a collectors thing. If you trade among collectors then graded can be a good investment IF you buy the right stuff. Question is, what should you buy? Definitely more challenging than just stacking where all your goals are oz vs price per spot + premium. As far as mining, if you want to invest in stock there is no more risk than holding something collectible. At end of day, holding something physical pending time permits is likely to be your best bet!

Proof coins are struck with specially polished dies, so normally have a mirror like background field and sometimes a frosted foreground which contrasts with that. Buffalos struck in proof usually have a higher premium. I think a lot of the times you will find a lot of modern slabbed coins in MS-69 at close to bullion prices because people will take the best examples they can find and pay for them to be graded in hopes of receiving an MS-70 grade. All that come back as MS-69 they then sell as bullion.

I would take the gold out for sure. The only reason I might buy a coin in some plastic would have to be some really old rare coin. I would just want something to protect it. You just said exactly what I just wrote so I agree.☝️

I watched one where the coin dealer said we were off the gold standard in 1933 ..That's not true ..the people were forces off the gold standard but the Gov't still pegged their currency to the gold holdings ..otherwise we would've hyperinflated away before 1945. Bretton Woods agreement was the settlement of the dollar replacing the Pound Sterling as the global reserve currency. The allies agreed to it because of gold backing the paper and Gov't

I have a v a u l t of silver ounce coins, graded all ms70, pr70, uncirculated, everything. the premiums are never going to be even in a realistic ballpark for what you are paying for a plastic tab. however, for older coins, this is probably your best bet for long term investment returns.

  • @TheQuickSilver101

I started stacking because I was (and still am) a coin collector. Certified coins are fun if you're a collector. If you're stacking the only reason to buy certified bullion is if you're confident that you can make a profit on it. If that Buffalo had been MS70 and you bought it close to spot you could make money on it. An MS 69 may as well be cracked out because there's no advantage at all.
The PF stands for Proof, which is a high die polish coin, mostly with high shine fields and frosty features. They're designed to be pretty. The MS stands for Mint State which is a standard circulation strike, with "circulation" in quotes when it comes to bullion, that is made from dies designed to push large numbers of coins with less reflective surfaces.
    Thanks, Yankee!

Graded numismatics are great, better than stacking bullion for return on investment if you know what you’re doing.
Slabbed modern stuff is almost always a bad investment, outside really few select rare pieces like the recent V75 privy mark AGE and ASE

  • @hunterfalck235

they won't grade it first strike unless you sent it in 2 months or less after it was released, it's meant to mean that it had used a new die, but I admit these days with the new equipment it doesn't mean much, but before 1836 when dies were handmade and powered, first strike would seriously mean something. 1850 double eagles and 1854s double eagles both used a brand new die, as did 1874 cc doubled eagles and they have a strong strike
