Home Depot ISSUES STARK WARNING TO U.S. ECONOMY

- So far in 2024 there have been more layoffs and we can't even count. Every week dozens of companies are announcing more job cuts we get we keep being told that the economy is doing great. Also, something I want to uncover in this video is the booming stock market. One of the reasons the companies are doing so well is because they are cutting a massive amount of jobs reducing their expenses. Not something you would see in a strong economy.

Stashed away cash for a rainy day, but with inflation pouring down, it feels more like a leaky bucket. Saving for retirement seems impossible if my money keeps losing value faster than I can earn it.
Not all hope is lost. Talk to a financial advisor about inflation-protected investments like TIPS (Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities) that can help your savings keep pace with inflation.
Financial consultants can be inflation warriors! They can recommend investment options that outpace inflation, like real estate or certain stocks. A client of mine used this strategy and saw their savings account grow by 15% in just two years, effectively combating inflation's drag.

Their hiding the numbers of layoffs
What I see is layoffs in the US to replace those worker with ones in lower cost geographies. Seen this same game in 2008-2012 too. Was hoping to escape the rat race before having to play this game again... *sigh*
What they typically do is start with raising the bar for performance to levels that they expect people not to meet. That way they can give poor performance reviews to employees that allows them to justify firing the employee. This saves them from having the negative perception of a layoff while still eliminating employees.

Exactly! The reason many went to HD was to save money by doing the project themselves. Now with materials marked up so high from where they were 4-5 years ago the savings from DIY have been diminished. It may still be more costly to hire someone but in many cases the only way a person could afford the project was by doing it themselves. At these prices I think a lot of folks just have to abandon the project altogether.

Because so many people overpaid for homes even while loan rates were low, I believe there will be a housing catastrophe because these people are in debt. If housing costs continue to drop and, for whatever reason, they can no longer afford the property and it goes into foreclosure, they have no equity since, even if they try to sell, they will not make any money. I believe that many individuals will experience this, especially given the impending mass layoffs and rapidly rising living expenses.
I advise you to invest in stocks to balance out your real estate, Even the worst recessions offer wonderful buying opportunities in the markets if you're cautious. Volatility can also result in excellent short-term buy and sell opportunities. This is not financial advice, but buy now because cash is definitely not king right now!
Soon, cheap homes won't be cheap anymore because prices today will look like dips tomorrow. I think inflation will cause panic until the Fed tightens its grip even more. You can't just pull the band-aid Off half way. Booms and busts are the ups and downs of the economy, and they will affect any investments. If you are at a crossroads or need honest advice on the best steps to take right now, it is best to get counsel from a financial expert.

Yet every 2 work days i get to interview someone for a job that has zero hours a week .

The housing market is in complete disarray. That may not be the whole story of the economy, though. Corporations are purchasing real estate and then renting it out, which distorts the market and produces a host of unfavourable incentives. However, it is incorrect to extrapolate that to the whole economy.
Some alternatives are distributed among several banks. I deal with a non-beginner broker that offers 4.58% cash yields and protests up to $3 million; it's always a good idea to think about working with an advisor for financial planning.

Full time jobs are disappearing in the Midwest. Takes 2 part time jobs now just for the basics.
And that's still not enough!
You now need 14 jobs!
The good paying jobs have been laying off all over the country. The so called great jobs numbers are based on minimum wage and often part time jobs, and of course, government jobs (which produce nothing).
your standard lower middle class full time job's starting pay is roughly the equivalent of $12-14 pre pandemic in the midwest.
Except now McDonald's is paying $12-14 starting out here in the midwest so now warehouses and other jobs that involve quite a bit more labor that pay the same can't find jack shit for anyone to work at those wages. No shortage of shitty warehouse jobs paying $12-14. There's just not good jobs paying 60-100k+ per year in the Midwest unless you are a medical professional, higher ed, or very high skill IT.
As a contractor, my business has changed in the past few years. We went from remodeling and updating to a repair company. People are not calling unless they need something fixed that can't wait. My home depot annual spending went from about $80,000+ to just under $20,000 last year.

My girlfriend's daughter & husband worked for IBM in Raleigh, NC. They worked from home. They were both laid off about a month ago. He was making about $150K and she made great money, too. They're having a heckuva time finding a new job.
Same. Tech market is in utter shambles.. in the SF Bay area they had over 350K layoffs. With that many in that area.. first employers looking for new hires can take their time and try to find the creme of the crop. Second that means for every job you get 1000s of applicants. I am literally qualified for dozens of jobs.. tick 10 out of 10 boxes. And within hours of submitting resume I get the same email (when I get one) "We're moving on". Like WTF? I didnt even get a shot at talking to someone? 20+ years high level experience in every area you need someone.. and I dont even get a shot at talking to someone. I said above, this is by far.. exponentially the worse. I believe it is the beginning of the end of lots of lucrative high paying jobs. With new jobs starting out of the gate with automation and tools that do the work that used to take humans.. and AI just making that way more likely as well.. frankly the movie/music industry got smart and fought that.. because I can tell you AI is already good enough to replace most of them.. millions of people paid good money.. it's already replacing HR, customer service, accountants, and more. I almost welcome WWIII just so we can thin the herd as awful as that sounds because I dont see this getting any better for us and I see it getitng a lot worse. I read the other day interest rates will remain high for a couple more years. I dont even know how thats going to work. People cant be paying $800 a month on a honda civic for 72 months.. nobody will buy them. Let alone the fact that the average cost of a car is 38K now.. at 9%+ interest. That's just insane. Something has to give. When a cup of fruit is 4x the price of french fries.. and we're worried about obesity and health care.. but we're charging higher for the stuff we need that nobody can afford.. if that's not writing on the wall I dont know what is.

@@The_webers I dont know. India is more expensive to hire now.. and from my experience a LOT of outsourced management failed multiple times the past many years. My husband is self employed and visits Home Depot and Lowe’s on a regular basis. I sometimes accompany him. Those places are almost empty 😢 nobody is spending…. Very few subs buying a few supplies. The economy is going downhill fast.
I am employed at a veterinary clinic. They judt informed all the employees last week that they are reducing our hours due to reduced profitability . I am going from a 36-40 hr to a 20-25 hr week. We are already understaffed as it is. This is going to make it way worse.
That’s happening in every job sector it seems behind the scenes not spoken about the 35/40 hr work week is shrinking it to 30/32 hr work basically a 4day work week either you take it or you quit to find another job to find out all companies are doing this …my sector is Big box Luxury retail dept store there eating from the inside out slowly squeezing out what they will keep and what to let go or just eliminate job titles completely to give the duties to be given to another still standing in that office that’s next in rank proximity though it doesn’t just end there several depts like support staff cuts, facilities will start changing who they buy from for the day to day operations which then affects other things
@@chaka1370 Thing is.. unlike any other time in our history.. these jobs aren't going to be replaced by new jobs. This is the beginning of the walled cities and a massive number of people without work. Between technology, automation and yes AI, a massive number of jobs are no longer needed to be done by humans. Hell they got machines that pick crops faster, 24/7, better than humans. The cost of the machines are millions..but after a year of not paying 100s of people to do that work, and running them 24/7.. they pay them off and make profit. I've been saying this for years, as someone in the tech sector finding every single job I apply to having 1000+ applications within minutes of it being posted.. it is by far.. and I mean literally exponentially much worse than it was the last few times we had layoffs.. combined. What exponentially increases that is that most of these jobs will never come back or find new jobs. Mark my words, you're going to see more and more people moving in with family, or renting small tents, etc. I am already thinking about it. I have about 500K in assets if I sell my home and stock.. and I am afraid with hopefully 25 to 30 years left to live.. that wont come close to keeping me living anything but miserable. There will be some that get lucky, invest just right or sell a company, etc.. and make big money. But money wont matter much if nobody else is able to work to spend.

The commercial landlords are really jacking up the rent as well. I guess when these retail spaces sit empty it’s just a tax write off for the landlords that own them but there can only be so many chain stores that can occupy these spaces so it’s really a lack of foresight and a ticking time bomb IMO.

I think the property owners of that commercial space, by jacking up rent prices even if it's vacant, they use that to help value the properties when going to banks for commercial loans. It's like the "possibility" of the owner earning that money is enough for the bank to go "ok have this money" who cares if any businesses can actually afford it.

Here in the NW the grocery chain Winco dropped self checkout. I asked the cashier why, she simply replied "thieves".
Same here in middle Tennessee. Dollar General store near me has out of order signs on all of their self checkouts. The employee told me it was due to theft.
I briefly lived in a town with a Winco. Loved that store, especially the bulk bins. But I know they run on super tight margins, and even a little spike in theft can make the model impossible. They don't even have workers do bagging because of just how tight the margins are. Similar things with Costco and the receipt checkers. It might look like a stupid job, but their business model would be sunk if a bunch of people started walking out with carts full of groceries due to no one checking to see if they actually bought those groceries.
Yes Dollar General as well. It’s crazy because they just recently implemented the self checkout stations. They have 1 person working at some stores at a time and they have to check everyone out as well as run the store.

My husband is a store manger. Cooperate had him cut 25 hours last pay period & another 25 hours this pay period. That’s 50 hours cut in one month. “Small Town, USA”. He hasn’t had to fire anyone yet, thankfully. But that’s only because his employees quit. He’s had several people come in with job apps that he’s had to say no to because he’s not allowed to give more hours out. Despite desperately needing more employees. He’s a good man who genuinely cares about his employees & it’s killing him to have to cut hours. They’re already on a skeleton crew as it is. The applicants he’s had to turn down have told him that it’s the same situation everywhere. There’s no jobs.

Unfortunately higher rates will not solve the problem. The problem is the US government is spending almost one trillion dollars every three months, spending money they don't have running huge deficit. Until that changes no deficits a balanced budget inflation will not change
especially to the Military. This country spends way to much on a woke military.
What was it the other day another 62-65 billion to Ukraine?
BRICs new currency is to dodge the inflation tax and arbitrary confiscation of dollars. Maybe we should trade dollars for the new currency.
The higher rates would definitely slow down consumer spending. If it was prohibitively expensive to borrow, people would have no choice, but not to. The government on the other hand is another story.

Home Depot got real greedy with their prices; same with Lowes. Stupid PVC fittings are double the price you can find online.
I work in a Home Depot Distribution Warehouse. They were on a hiring freeze in all of 2023. They had to hire a handful of employees in November because so many people quit or got fired. So they hired about 12 new employees in November in a warehouse that had over 300 employees a year ago. Most of those employees that were hired in November have lost their jobs. Well we are now about 2/3 of the way through our busy Spring peak season. It officially ends June 15th, but it starts slowing after Memorial day weekend. Instead of hiring new employees they are bringing in some temp workers which actually cost more per hour on their end, and the temp workers do the most basic of functions. I think it's a stupid idea to bring in temps when we are not staffed correctly. My office should have 8 employees, and we only have 6, AND they have me doing functions outside of my job like unloading back haul trailers. They have an office associate unloading trailers. Figure that one out! A Supervisor from another location was visiting the other night, and he was shocked when I told him I was an office associate, and he saw me, the only one working on these messed up backhaul trailers. SMH.
Our job cut all the hours we had down to the min to keep the doors open not enough people to keep the store up to corp requirements but they send us some temp workers . They are so great not only do they cost at least as much as the staff we laid off if not more they also do half the work and are not our employees so it's just some random person every other day that you have to hand hold the entire time . Not to mention we spend half our shift in battle with shop lifters our policy is to let them go and the police is to let them go but if we do let anymore go we will be closed down . Some people at the top in both government and companies want this all to happen it's the only way to explain it .
Temps don’t hit the company unemployment claims when they are let go at the end of the season. Plus no fully loaded cost with benefits or long term disability claims. It’s actually cheaper to hire a temp than to hire a PT or FT employee. Be happy you have a job and try to find joy in your work.

People resort to crime when there are no consequences for criminal behavior. It has little to do with “necessity”.
Richard J. Mann
correct.. I made that point earlier in these comments .... its because places like California changed the law to not prosecute anyone who shoplifts under $900 ... criminals are taking full advantage of it... plus many blue districts have also eliminated cash bail and defunded the police... so why wouldn't a criminal want to take advantage of this??
And if you watch any of the videos of the tons of smash and grabs going on daily in places like California, Washington state, Oregon, you can clearly see its all organized crime perpetrating it.. its not just one off person sticking bread under their shirt.. its a gang of 20 or so young men, smashing windows, taking luxury items, luxury clothing, luxury handbags, apple iPhone's and iPad's.... hardly items that can be consumed to survive.

I live there too and yes it’s a staffing company. Hundreds of people all over the Bay Area need to find a new job by June.
One thing abt high earners is that they usually spend quite a bit (cars, houses, clothes, house cleaners, yard services and other types of goods / services). When they don’t get paid, they spend less everywhere else which trickles down to ppl providing goods / services.
Years ago he night I moved to McAllen TX I was a amazed that the Walmart we went to was even still in business. The theft I saw in the open was astonishing. I would never move there again. We left.
Walmart is losing to Temu for cheap BS, Aldi is leading growth in groceries. Contractors and builders are sick of Lowe's and Home Depot - going to other local suppliers. Sucks to suck.
Temu and bad policy is crushing eBay stores too. Quite the little interrupter that one.
Temu is trash, and people need to do better before Temu is all we have lol.
Thankfully I'm not wasting my time with Temu. The prices are obviously too good to be true. Product potentially being made with literal slave labor.
@Napsteraspx these jobs are called bondaged servitude
I checked the profits on walmart. you know since Biden took office inflation went up 20% and Walmart's profits went up 20.97% during the same time. they are going to make like a $167 Billion in 2024. it's not inflation it's company's overcharging for items. If gas goes up $1. a gallon. a semi might use another $500 to deliver a truck load. You understand how many items are on that truck? 48,000 lbs can be hauled. lets say every item is 5 lbs. so you have 9,200. we too 200 lbs. off for waste. each item cost $5. you have to admit. everything is like $5. anymore. then figure 20% more $9,200.00 a truck. People have shopped there so long when they was cheap. They won't move. Just like Democrats. They voted Democrat for so long they won't change. Even as they are being robbed.
Home Dept 2016 : taking care of business
Home Depot 2024: going out of business
Home Depot stock is $344.21 a share.
@@faustinreeder1075that’s due to stock buybacks and is not their actual true value.
Home Depot has alot of corporate bonds
Home Depot sucks.
@@faustinreeder1075 While I agree they won't go out of business, reading off their stock price means nothing when all stock markets are still playing musical chairs at all-time highs when the US consumer is in the worst shape they've been in since the great depression. Worse than 2007 housing bubble even. Home Depot stock, like all of them, will drop at least 40% from today's valuations over the next year.
My wife worked for a logistics warehouse that supported Rivian. She quit to take care of a family member since she used to be a CNA. Two months after she quit, that warehouse was told they were being closed down. They probably employed 50-75. To this day I've seen one Rivian in the wild and we don't live very far from the auto plant. Its unsustainable garbage.
Only in business because investors were desperate to put money into places that might pay since low risk paid nothing.
Corporate greed is out of control, God forbid they won't make the enormous profits they're making.
The average salary at Google is $270,000 per year. Don't feel that bad for Silicon Valley workers.
If they were unable to save at least $100,000 per year, I have absolutely zero sympathy.
With that salary, personally, I could easily save 200k a year. Easily.
Everything is relative. The cost of living is higher in Silicon Valley. Very few people would make that money elsewhere and have a very low cost of living
You’re gonna pay 50% income tax. You can’t save $200K
@@11nica5 Fuck no it ain't relative. It's called roommates and home cooking/bulk buying groceries.
@@randallkohn6089 it's 35%, not 50%........................... They made it illegal for income tax to go above 40% for a reason. That would be 175000 take-home pay every year. Even in cali that's solid if you're smart and have roommates.
270k where they live is not that great. Their cost of living is over 200% the median col.
Depot hires tons of people knowing only a small fraction will stay any length of time. They also sell junk. We are tired of buying disposable junk. They need to up their game
Planned obsolescense.
With regard to your comments about healthcare, the CEO's of the hospitals are making an ibscene amount of money. I am a retired nurse, Reaganomucs has kept the wages flat. The hospital CEO's should take a paycut!
You can blame Reagan, but you don't say a word about the changes Clinton (8 years) or Obama (8 years) or Bush II (8 years) made that improved the situation. Why not? Could it be that BOTH sides still have you fooled into believing they give a rat's ass about you? We don't have a two-party system. We have a one-party system that has convinced voters that there are two sides.
Amen, the CEO of the “not for profit” hospital my wife works for makes nearly 3 million a year.
Michael, you are a natural. Keep up the good work.
