Or in rises, we never actually see batman perish or escape. Completely legitimate interpretations can be made either way. (The only thing that we know for sure is that batman will do anything to save Gotham)

By a long way. I tend to dismiss folks who call it one of the greatest movies of all time and place it on an absurd level (like top 5 of all time). But it is definitely a great action movie (on the level of Aliens) in terms of being the absolute apex of its genre. Sci-Fi/action/horror hybrid for aliens, Superhero/ACtion for Dark Knight. It has a lot of flaws those folks tend to overlook. I appreciate it for what it is, no more, no less, which is exactly what you called it. 👍
Overall comic book hero movie it is the best. I watched "The Dark Knight" 5x in theaters. 😂 It's more of a villain movie though. In the sense that the villains carry the movie. A superhero movie should have the superhero as the star. Good example would be Sam Raimi's Spider-Man, Christopher Reeves' Superman. Personally I think the first Spider-Man is the best for focusing on the hero. I acknowledge all the things this movie stole from The Crow, which imo, made this movie what it was. Without The Crow i don't think this film would exist.

joker's address switcharoo is more cruel and sadistic if you think about it. joker knew rachel was someone so important to batman. he also knew rachel had a relationship with harvey dent. then joker himself or his henchmen told rachel ''we will let your friends(batman,gordon,,) decide who are they gonna save between harvey and rachel. rachel then said that to harvey. batman went to save rachel but instead he found harvey. when harvey was being dragged away from the bomb look at rachel's face. she thought that moment because she picked harvey over bruce/batman as her husband (the letter she gave to alfred explaining she can't be with bruce because batman never gonna quit his life) bruce chose to save harvey. she thought bruce/batman wanted her to die because of her rejection. then harvey went mad because he lost his love thinking it was his friends fault.
The scene with Joker and Rachel was improvised. The actress was actually terrified and that's why she keeps looking towards the director. You guys should react to "Interstellar" which is Nolan's greatest films.
