@ well that’s why I know even more now you’ve never heard one take off. Because AMG are one of few German performance brands of which you don’t need to alter the exhaust for it to sound good. Maybe as I was typing you’re looking for them on UA-cam…. FYI the M156 is naturally aspirated, and the w204 c63 is qualified to be a German muscle car, and guess what. Americans love it. That says enough doesn’t it? But I got your point
You raced my e90 M3 (Melbourne Red LCI). Had to check if that was my old M4 CS. It was an absolutely monster. That one has carbon ceramics, though. Flash the gearbox and it's fantastic.
The part we’re missing is that the GT350 is a flat plane crank shaft which really wakes up the engine noise and allows for a higher RPM threshold. It sounds insane!
@@czesaw597 it's a long-geared manual with a naturally aspirated engine, it ain't made to break records. Instead of being a silly kid you should appreciate that we can get such fun and charming cars.
Matt you should at least read about that gt350 before shooting the video , NM I will break it down for you guys: its a track focused car , with a glorious flat plane crank V8 that screams to 8250 rpm , it comes only in manual, and it is NOT meant for drifting neither drag racing , you are welcome.
Its also not a car made for a straight line at all, how the engine is tuned and behaves is not fit for a straight line, that includes the gearing. Its a race circuit car, not a drag car.
Also u dont launch a GT350 by dumping the clutch, it needs to be slipped. And traction control needs to be held for 7 seconds to turn off completely. Source: a GT350 owner
He may have been short shifting. I noticed that too. That engine red-lines at 8250 rpm and being quite loud, Sam may have not even realized he wasn't revving it all the way out. So next gear, he starts outside the power band which is quite high in the rev range. This is not a torquey engine, but a high revving peaky type engine. The transmission along with the whole car is setup more for circuit racing, not drag racing. The Voodoo engine is more akin to Ferrari's 458 and F430 V8's for example than Chevy's low rpm torque monster LS engines.
I suspect that the brake pads on the ceramic rotors versus the steels on the Shelby contributed to the braking distance. Ceramics excel at heat dissipation but usually need more initial heat in them to start biting.
@ here’s my ChatGPT response comparing the brake caliper and rotor sizes of both vehicles: Here’s a comparison of the brake rotor and caliper specifications for the BMW F82 M4 CS with carbon ceramic brakes and the 2019 Ford Shelby GT350 with the handling package: BMW F82 M4 CS (Carbon Ceramic Brakes): Brake Rotors: Front: Diameter: 400 mm (15.7 inches) Material: Carbon ceramic composite. Thickness: 38 mm. Rear: Diameter: 380 mm (15 inches. Thickness: 28 mm. Calipers: Front: 6-piston fixed calipers (Brembo) Rear: 4-piston. 2019 Ford Shelby GT350 (Handling Package): Brake Rotors: Front: Diameter: 394 mm (15.5 inches). Material: Iron rotors with aluminum hats. Thickness: 36 mm Rear: Diameter: 380 mm (15 inches). Material: Iron rotors with aluminum hats. Thickness: 26 mm. Calipers: Front: 6-piston fixed calipers (Brembo). Rear: 4-piston fixed calipers. Features: High thermal capacity for track use. Standard rotors optimized for cooling, with iron offering affordability for replacement compared to carbon ceramics. Key Differences: Rotor Material: The M4 CS uses carbon ceramic rotors for significantly lower unsprung mass and better fade resistance, whereas the GT350 uses iron rotors, which are heavier but more affordable to maintain. Rotor Size: The sizes are similar, with the M4 CS having slightly larger front rotors. Applications: Both systems are track-capable, but the M4’s carbon ceramics excel under repeated high-heat conditions due to their materials.
For S550 Mustangs, you have to hold the traction off button for 10 seconds to fully turn off advanced traction. Otherwise, you just bog down when spinning the rears
@@billymays7210 So you think the BMW M4 CS got as much power as an Audi RS 6. are you mad ? Yes BMWs do have more power than advertised, but not 140 hp more.
@@mikeg03054 that's true, they could invest in electronics a bit more, though that would drive the price up. BMW used to have pretty terrible LC with the F-generation too, but they did their due diligence with the G-generation to the point where they now compete with Audis.
Look at the sheer size of those rotors & brake pads. But in general, yes, you will stop in a shorter distance with larger rotors and bigger pads. The difference however, can be relative. The key difference comes in how quickly a system can reach the clamping pressure necessary to lock the wheels/tires. Then timing & skill. The anti-locking system does all the grunt work.

GT350' are notoriously known for bogging at the start (especially with stock LC) because of lack of low end torque, which is provided by that high revving N/A 5.2 Voodoo engine. You have to be meticulously perfect with right amount of revs and clutch dumping for good start. Third drag race shows that with proper training Sam could've show great result without factory LC. 6:10 sam you very good at it.👍 Nice launch
As huge fan of german-cars , i would say that this mustang is the best V8 i had ever heard (in real life not only this video) , such a masterpiece from Ford , i really respect both gt 350 and gt 500, but the manual for the win always❤
Prolly never heard a 6.2 AMG m156 take off.😂
@shadleyanthony6376 (we talk as standad exhaust) i know someone would type this 😂, (don't forget Cls63) but both are freaking good , howe ever when it comes to pure sound mustang wins for me (i'm an Amg fan btw)
@@shadleyanthony6376 Prolly never hearfd a GT350 IRL 😂
@ well that’s why I know even more now you’ve never heard one take off. Because AMG are one of few German performance brands of which you don’t need to alter the exhaust for it to sound good.
Maybe as I was typing you’re looking for them on UA-cam….
FYI the M156 is naturally aspirated, and the w204 c63 is qualified to be a German muscle car, and guess what. Americans love it. That says enough doesn’t it?
But I got your point
@ I have. And it sounds amazing. But it can't compete with the Voodoo. When it comes to V10s, however, the Germans OWN the Americans.
This content is fantastic, your humility is like a side of fries - perfect!
I love carwows videos
Whoever is doing the sound editing / decided on the in-car microphones has made a total hash of it.
1/2 MILE 💪🏻
Is it me or the design of the F series BMW is miles better than G seriwa
No, any sane person with healthy eyesight agrees with you, my friend.
No, most people think that. And the E is miles better than the F...
The GT350 comes with full on brembo brakes so that explains the difference in the braking test and also the track tires
I been waiting for Carwow to drag race a GT350 FOR SO LONG! 🤩
460hp vs 600hp?
Bruh😅
Mustang isn't 600hp.
And mustang still lost 🤣🤣
Don´t worry, it´s american ponies vs german horses, mate.
@@czesaw597 it's a long-geared manual with a naturally aspirated engine, it ain't made to break records.
Instead of being a silly kid you should appreciate that we can get such fun and charming cars.
I much prefer the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 instead of BMW M4 CS
vid starts at 0:00 btw
no way
Thank you
Cheers 👍
Good lord that 5.2 sounds absolutely insane.
Matt you should at least read about that gt350 before shooting the video , NM I will break it down for you guys: its a track focused car , with a glorious flat plane crank V8 that screams to 8250 rpm , it comes only in manual, and it is NOT meant for drifting neither drag racing , you are welcome.
0:38 600hp ? 🤣
Was thinking the same. How to u get 600hp for a na v8.
It’s tuned
It’s tuned , you can get hella power from a NA motor it just depends on what other things like exhaust, headers & intakes , gasoline & good tuning.
@@MayraSaldana-b4y it's stock,
I mean the gt350 was manual
Its also not a car made for a straight line at all, how the engine is tuned and behaves is not fit for a straight line, that includes the gearing.
Its a race circuit car, not a drag car.
Also u dont launch a GT350 by dumping the clutch, it needs to be slipped.
And traction control needs to be held for 7 seconds to turn off completely.

@@9630ron BMW is not made for straight line racing
@@9630ron You're acting like an m4cs is a drag car
@@etilhcir4645 That's literally all they're good for anymore. The closest BMW to this GT350 is the E92 GTS.
why does the mustang even bog down while upshifting ???
He may have been short shifting. I noticed that too. That engine red-lines at 8250 rpm and being quite loud, Sam may have not even realized he wasn't revving it all the way out. So next gear, he starts outside the power band which is quite high in the rev range. This is not a torquey engine, but a high revving peaky type engine. The transmission along with the whole car is setup more for circuit racing, not drag racing. The Voodoo engine is more akin to Ferrari's 458 and F430 V8's for example than Chevy's low rpm torque monster LS engines.
I don't think they realize that the GT350 has no lift shift. At least I think it does
@@SkylineLofe it doesnt.
I suspect that the brake pads on the ceramic rotors versus the steels on the Shelby contributed to the braking distance. Ceramics excel at heat dissipation but usually need more initial heat in them to start biting.
The brakes on the GT350 are also absolutely massive.
@ here’s my ChatGPT response comparing the brake caliper and rotor sizes of both vehicles:
Here’s a comparison of the brake rotor and caliper specifications for the BMW F82 M4 CS with carbon ceramic brakes and the 2019 Ford Shelby GT350 with the handling package:
BMW F82 M4 CS (Carbon Ceramic Brakes):
Brake Rotors: Front: Diameter: 400 mm (15.7 inches) Material: Carbon ceramic composite. Thickness: 38 mm. Rear: Diameter: 380 mm (15 inches. Thickness: 28 mm. Calipers: Front: 6-piston fixed calipers (Brembo) Rear: 4-piston.
2019 Ford Shelby GT350 (Handling Package): Brake Rotors: Front: Diameter: 394 mm (15.5 inches). Material: Iron rotors with aluminum hats. Thickness: 36 mm Rear: Diameter: 380 mm (15 inches). Material: Iron rotors with aluminum hats. Thickness: 26 mm. Calipers: Front: 6-piston fixed calipers (Brembo). Rear: 4-piston fixed calipers. Features: High thermal capacity for track use. Standard rotors optimized for cooling, with iron offering affordability for replacement compared to carbon ceramics.
Key Differences:
Rotor Material: The M4 CS uses carbon ceramic rotors for significantly lower unsprung mass and better fade resistance, whereas the GT350 uses iron rotors, which are heavier but more affordable to maintain. Rotor Size: The sizes are similar, with the M4 CS having slightly larger front rotors. Applications: Both systems are track-capable, but the M4’s carbon ceramics excel under repeated high-heat conditions due to their materials.
It's probably got more to do with the wider tires on the GT350. You aren't going to reach the limits of the discs and pads with just 2 brakes.
For S550 Mustangs, you have to hold the traction off button for 10 seconds to fully turn off advanced traction. Otherwise, you just bog down when spinning the rears
mustang didnt have a crowd around it so not fair
Only reason it went straight
This gen of mustang isn't known for ruining into crowds
That joke is dead now
What’s the point drag racing a manual car against an automatic
To see which is faster
The manual had 140HP more.
@@richardlabeja Not enough HP to overcome the advantage of having a dual clutch gearbox that changes gear in milliseconds
@@richardlabeja No it didn't. The BMW is making around 600 in reality. Have you heard of BMW power figures before?
@@billymays7210 So you think the BMW M4 CS got as much power as an Audi RS 6. are you mad ? Yes BMWs do have more power than advertised, but not 140 hp more.
auto vs a stick shift in a drag race and the auto won? You dont say.
Mustangs of all varieties have never really launched well. But would've liked to see apples to apples...stick vs stick.
American Horsepower figures means jack shit, it got what it deserves
@pokerwalker3903 lmao
@@mikeg03054 that's true, they could invest in electronics a bit more, though that would drive the price up.
BMW used to have pretty terrible LC with the F-generation too, but they did their due diligence with the G-generation to the point where they now compete with Audis.
@@pokerwalker3903 this has little to do with power figures and everything to do with tall gearing and having a manual. It's not always about power.
Here in the US, the newer Mustangs are always loud and show offs. Some lacking traction and manual is nice but hard to beat a modern Auto with it! I love old school classics! The break test. OMG!
I don't know if it's just me - but every time there's a "tuned" american car, it seems to preform worse than stock?
exactly, cuz carwow is so full of s***
I swear they give American cars the worst drivers and they don’t tune them well I’ll agree a stock 350 with driver mod would do justice
Braking distance difference is probably due to the GT350s massive 305mm-wide front tyres.
Nope, that's only on the R's. This GT350 in the video has 295's up front.
@@pottersi That's still 20mm wider than the CS's fronts.
265s on the CS. That’s 30-40mm difference.
Apple to apple it should be the GT500 vs M4 CS ( not NA vs boosted)
That would not be competitive at all, GT500 all day .
then it wouldn't be apples to apples considering the gt500 has 2 more cylinders and bigger displacement no?
How about GT500 vs the new M4 CS Xdrive so it kinda evens out the playing field a bit
@@franchute4731 the only comparison you should care about is price. In what world is having more cylinders a bad thing lmao?
@@xIcarus227 where did i say it was a bad thing to have more cylinders?, i was just stating that its unfair to compare a twin turbo inline six against a supercharged v8, which has larger displacement and of course it has two more cylinders and a supercharger so its obviously gonna make more power.
This is just music to our ears honestly 💯
The noise of that GT350!! 😍😍😍
Carwow always making the American cars look like shit lmao
How did you come to that conclusion - there was 4 Tests here- the Mustang won 3 and the BMW got 1 / Sound Test Mustang WON / Rolling Race Mustang WON / Brake Test Mustang WON/ Drag Race BMW Won . overall the Mustang was the better performing car . FACT and this is the GT350 not the GT350R ! !! !

Pretty good comparison! would have been great to see manual vs manual, a tuned manual F82 Comp vs the tuned Shelby would be an epic battle. Come on Matt make it happen.
Zero chance that M4 is making stock power... The GT350 still bogs off the line, but to pull like that once they are both rolling is a dead giveaway. Mat's hatred for American cars is as strong as ever in this one.
I was thinking the same thing. Upgraded exhaust but no tune🤔
Yup that CS is definitely tuned.
No BMW is making stock power, haha. They dyno at well over claimed crank hp AT THE WHEELS...
This is my cs and no it is not tuned 👍
@ You did an exhaust and no tune?... I'm not saying you're lying, just pointing out that this would be extremely unusual to say the least. My guy drops $1500+ on sound without a $300 tune for power?.... sus.
Im a bmw fan but Im so mad that the guy driving the mustang was eating a sandwhich every time he shifted
I was thinking the same meant to be a racing driver as well and he can't change gear for shit
Maybe the Mustang is difficult to shift fast, like the manuals from Dodge. I don’t know, but it’s possible. Try to do it better yourself. But here in the comments of course everyone is a racing driver. No matter how good You are, an automatic transmission will always be faster.
Also you HAVE to power (no lift) shift through gears to keep that high revving (8.250 rpm) engine in it's powerband.
Anyway, that is beautiful track "muscle"/"pony" car ❤
